One of my fellow coaches told me the KHSAA is looking to retire some of their older officials. Do you think there should be an upper age limit or base it on their abilities. I know one of these, not by name, but from doing some of our games who should've gave it up ten years ago. He has a hard time just getting out of players way when they run his sideline, and it created some dangerous situations, and some bad calls simply because the game was to fast for him.

I have seen alot of young officals that need to be retired. Many of the better officals are older Gentleman. I don't think their should be an age limit. But officals in every sport should be evaluated every 2 yrs or so too see if in fact they can or still do the job they are getting paid to do.

Agree with you Leonidas.. Pride in the job well done is not always foremost in everyones outlook this day and time..

Also agree that like other things every 2 year testing for "all" officals might be the answer.

If a KHSAA HS Official, has a desire to work, an understanding of the Rules, physical ability to perform his role and passion for Football, let them decide when enough is enough.

 

It's getting more difficult to retain and bring in new officials.
