  1. Maybe so, but it isn't like the game was close year. Tilghman won 37-0 and outgained Monroe by a better than 3-1 margin, holding the Falcons to barely over 100 yards of offense. That's a big gap to make up, even with 18 returning starters.
  2. I'm told he made a comment that was interpreted as critical of a no-call on what he apparently thought should have been pass interference.
  3. Everyone makes the playoffs, and sectional pairings are determined by blind draw. Theoretically, you could have the best two teams in the state meet in a first-round game instead of sectional final, at the very least.
  4. If the texts and Twitter feeds I saw were correct, one of Murray's best players (a defensive tackle) was ejected from the game for throwing a punch. That would be a big loss going into next week's game at Owensboro Catholic.
  5. Barring a miracle, Owensboro will have the top seed in District 1, with Lone Oak second and Madisonville third.
  6. Bottom line ... Owensboro Catholic has beaten a good 4A team in Owensboro, one that has beaten two ranked teams in Lafayette and Lone Oak. I would say that puts the Aces in the conversation in 2A.
  7. I'll tell you what is entertaining ... it's guys from the central and eastern parts of the state that down teams from the west for "not playing anybody." Owensboro Catholic has beaten an Owensboro team that some think should be ranked in 4A and has beaten two ranked teams, Lafayette and Lone Oak. The Aces are consistently a contender in 2A and don't have to apologize for the schedule, which has all of the bigger schools in town on it. South Spencer appears to down by its standards but has traditionally been a solid program. We've been hearing this kind of stuff for years, especially after Lone Oak got hammered by Lexington Catholic in the 4A title game in 2007. Each year after that, we kept hearing how the 4A title game was going to be a blowout, but the next few years had close, competitive games. And the west has won its fair share of state titles the last few years.
  8. Crazy, crazy game ... Murray led 21-7 early in the fourth quarter, then Caldwell scored, recovered a fumble on the kickoff and scored to tie it. Murray was moving the ball, then had a snap go over the quarterback's head in shotgun for a big loss. After a punt, Caldwell drove and kicked the winning field goal with a little over a minute left. Murray had five turnovers, including three lost fumbles.
  9. I wasn't blaming anything on injuries. I am simply pointing out the situation that Lone Oak is in right now. It's a long season, dude. Tilghman was playing pretty well at the start of the season, and Lone Oak fell behind early but was in the game before their starting quarterback was lost to an injury. They certainly weren't smashed. Really, what happened in Week 0 doesn't have a lot of bearing on what is going on now. I haven't said anything about Owensboro's schedule, which is pretty solid. Bottom line ... if Warren East played a more challenging schedule, they might have more support for a top-10 ranking.
  10. Lone Oak lost to Christian County on a last-second field goal. Bowling Green hammered Owensboro. Owensboro also lost to Madisonville, and I've seen Madisonville. I think Lone Oak will beat them, but Lone Oak also has some big injuries on defense right now. We'll see how it goes.
  11. Tough schedule? Sure, it is. But let's face it ... some of the E-town teams of the recent past would have been very competitive with that schedule. The problem is the program, not the schedule.
  12. More true than harsh ...
  13. They were in Class A in four of the six years that VOR is referencing, so it isn't ridiculous at all.
  14. The only ridiculous thing here was your post. Lexington Christian was in Class A from 2007-10, which is in the time frame that VOR is referencing. Besides, Class A now is different that Class A was from 2007-10 because of the 32-team limit. We're comparing red apples and green apples, at the very least.
  15. Plus, you have Lexington Christian, which was one of the best programs in Class A from 2007-10. Just because they are in 2A now, does that mean they don't belong in these rankings?
  16. Russellville belongs somewhere up on the list. The Panthers played up in 3A from 2007-10, made the semifinals once and barely lost to eventual champion Paducah Tilghman in the quarterfinals in 2009. As long as John Myers is coaching there, they will be a factor in Class A for years to come.
  17. I suspect the staffs from Paducah Tilghman, Fort Campbell and Trigg County were represented ...
  18. I'm told that Lone Oak had five or six turnovers and had a kickoff returned for a touchdown right after they had put together a long drive to tie it in the second half.
  19. Fort Campbell led 27-0 after the first quarter and 33-0 at halftime. Tilghman had three intereceptions and a blocked punt in the first half, and two or three of those mistakes ended up being short scoring drives for the Falcons. It was brutal for Tilghman ... a lot of things to stew on for a while.
