  1. I am definitely pulling for Cumberland, but don't know if they can pull the upset tonight. I'm going to predict: Hazard - 35 Cumberland - 24
  2. I just had a parent last night jump on to me about her son not getting to play. The boy is in 4th grade, and it is a 4/5/6th grade team. He is the least developed player on the team. She wanted to know why some 4th graders got to play, and others didn't. I told her some were more advanced than others, and that is why we play 4th grade games. Sometimes parents are just unreasonable.
  3. I am glad to hear of this. That makes Kentucky two Kickers in the NFL - Akers and Bironas. Both Pro Bowl performers to boot.
  4. If the player is shoved out of bounds, the clock still stops. He almost has to be tackeled first, or held up.
  5. It may not be the traditional power game, but Urban Meyer pretty much runs a power football game when Tebow is running the football. He has two lead backs, and he has the ball. Sounds like a wishbone to me.
  6. It's crazy that possibly the best player in Bell Co. history (in terms of national exposure) is going to be a kicker.
  7. I wouldn't take it that far. He may be leading EKU or Pikeville College, not UK.
  8. The Cumberland secondary was lost all night. Hazard's receivers would run a ten yard stop route, and sit in the holes of the zone. Cumberland could not match Hazard's speed, but I would have liked to saw a little man coverage, at least underneath, and allowed the safeties to play over the top. Hazard was impressive on offense, but will need to pick it up defensively to beat some of the top tier teams in the latter rounds of the playoffs. They definitely have the potential.
  9. My vote goes to Holcomb. I have heard that Superintendent Tim Saylor does not want Holcomb because he likes to throw the ball. I don't believe that to be true, however.
  10. Hall Elementary (Harlan Co.) will have a good 7/8 grade team this season. Rosspoint will have a good team as well. I think both teams will be participating in the 13th Region 8th grade tournament at Whitley County later in the season.
  11. Cawood - David Hensley (Head coach at Dunbar) Cumberland - Charles Tinsley (from what I've heard; better at baseball) Evarts - Scott Russell (Mr. Football) Harlan - TJ Dunson (from what I've heard)
  12. What you are saying is true, and I do feel for the kids who won't have the opportunities they would at a smaller school. However, in football, the team is bigger than one person. I imagine those kids will have roles on the special teams units. That is just the way it works. This county needs an upgrade. I hope I'm not the only one in Harlan who wants a state title to come to the town, whether it be Cawood, Evarts, Harlan, Cumberland, or the new high school. We need success.
  13. Auburn, Wyoming, Air Force, North Texas are some of the schools that were out West or Southern.
  14. What was the status of Cochran? Did he end up playing, or did Helton step in QB?
  15. I don't know if Middlesboro will beat them. It seems like Lee High is back to its old self.
  16. Wow! I didn't expect this. I knew this game could go either way, but thought the margin of victory would have been much closer.
  17. Yeah, I may go to Cumberland. I want to see David Hensley (Cawood's all-time leading rusher) and his team, though. Personally, I think Dunbar will win convincingly.
  18. I'm trying to find a great game to watch in EKY (live in Harlan). Will this game be worth watching, or will it be Dunbar a lot and Corbin a little?
  19. I thought they said 13-6 last night. I could be wrong, though. It tells on the Rax Bowl t-shirt if you have one.
  20. Just a few thoughts... With the exception of a couple of players, I thought both teams looked slow. As bas as I hate to say it, I don't think either team will do much this year. I question the play calling of the Harlan staff on the last four downs of the on the twelve yard line. I also think Cawood needs to move TJ Green back to running back to compete with better teams. I thought freshman Dylon Smith looked good from Cawood. He is a fast player, and doesn't shy away from contact. The reverse Cawood scored late in the second quarter was one of the nicer plays I have seen in high school football. Good luck to both teams!
  21. ...Which raises the question: Where has all of the talent gone? I'm not saying there hasn't been/isn't talent, but it seems like Harlan hasn't seen talent like this in a long time.
  22. Come on, now. Harlan students are allegedly the brightest in the county. I think you meant tenured. Just kidding, but that is how you spell it.
  23. If he brings his son, I'm sure they'll find him a job.
  24. I think that both Desmond Johnson and Brock Leisge should be ahead of Simpson on the list. If you think Simpson should be on the list, who should you take off? It would be difficult to take anyone off, only to add Simpson.
