JARED KAUFMAN OF RYLE HIGH SCHOOL EARNS SPOT ON RAY GUY/PROKICKER.COM NATIONAL RANKINGS LIST

Bowling Green, Ky. – The Ray Guy/ProKicker.com Kicking Academy has recently announced that Jared Kaufman of Ryle High School in Walton, Kentucky has been named to its National Rankings List.

Kaufman was one of thousands of high school athletes that attended the Ray Guy/ProKicker.com Kicking Academy, which is held annually in over 30 cities across the nation. The Academy provides individual instruction to the top kicking and punting prospects in the nation, while establishing itself as one of the premier sources of information for college football coaches and recruiters.

“We would like every athlete to be honored for their individual performance as well as their initiative, dedication and accomplishment to improving their skills,” said Guy.

Athletes named to the National Rankings List were individually evaluated and graded on facets of kicking and punting such as hang-time, distance, and accuracy. Kaufman’s performances put him at the top of list among the camp’s participants. His scores and profile can be found at ProKicker.com, along with complete rankings.

Countless participants of the Ray Guy/ProKicker.com Kicking Academy have gone on to earn college scholarships, and continually set new standards on the collegiate and professional levels. In the past four years alone, the Academy has helped develop three All-American punters and two All American kickers, including two Lou Groza Award winners in Jonathan Ruffin (Cincinnati) and Seth Marler (Tulane).

Other notable camp alums include: Billy Bennett (NCAA All-Time Field Goal Scoring leader), Daniel Sepulveda (NCAA Career Punting Average leader), and Nick Harris (current Detroit Lion, NCAA Career Yardage and Number of Punts leader).

“It’s all about credibility,” said Academy Director Rick Sang. “Athletes named to this exclusive list will appreciate their accomplishment much more by knowing that they have earned it.”

And Ryle isn't in Walton, it's in Union.

Kaufman and our Bell kicker attended the camp in Bowling Green and were compared to camps in 33 major cities in United States this past summer. Bell County kicker Merrick was entered as kicker/punter, and I believe that Kaufman only went in as kicker. Merrick is ranked #20 in nation as kicker/punter and #22 punter/kickoff specialist. The senior class is ranked called The Recruiting Class and the Junior (Class of 2009) kickers are also ranked. Merrick is #2 junior in nation as kicker/punter; #2 punter/kickoff specialist, and #4 punter; and #8 kicker. Here is the link:http://www.prokicker.com/rankings/junior/combos

The kicking game is certainly getting more attention in Kentucky football. There are a lot of outstanding kickers. Coaches should pay more attention to the special teams play. It can turn ball games and negate a lot of hard work in other areas when it is ignored.

Lexington Christian Academy's kicker, Craig McIntosh went to the Chicago camp. He is ranked #8 overall ahead of Kaufman and Milligan (St. X of Cincy) mentioned on the link to Kaufman's story. Kentucky was well represented this year at Ray Guy's camps!

Yes, at the time of this camp, Kaufman was not doing much punting and was actually working on his kick-off steps. Had he been kicking off then as he is now, he would probably be positioned in the top ten. Ranking is weighted heavily on the kickoffs. He was one of only a handful of kids that went 100% on field goals (ranging from 30-50 yds.) in those 33 camps.
