That would be 2 great games...Belfry and Corbin in the Pike County Bowl would be a great way to get the season started. With Coach Jackson being a former Redhound maybe we will see a few more Pikeville vs. Corbin games in the future.

Harlan is good this year but I gotta go with Breathitt County...good luck to both teams...Being a Pikeville fan it seems we play Harlan every year in the playoffs and I say we will see you guys in a few months. I hope you guys keep winning and win district 7 but Breathitt will be tough to beat...they seem to be getting back to the Breathitt of old, slowly but they are gettting there. It wouldn't shock me to see Boyle County win this game...they are down but they are still a good dangerous team... Having said that Mercer County has looked very impressive this year so far and they are my early pick to bring home the AA state title. This could be a game that comes down to the last minute and the team that has the ball last wins the game but I think that Mercer will pull away a little in the 2nd half and continue to roll along. Congrats Sheldon Clark!! The Cards are a very good team this year IMO...in fact my prediction is that we will see Sheldon Clark making the trip to Pond Creek in November to play for the Region 4 title. If the Cards can beat Belfry in the regular season, though the Pirates will be my pick in that game, I still think the same 2 teams will play for the region 4 title but it would be in Inez I believe. I know that there are some other good teams that could ruin my prediction...Middlesboro(they are legit and could win Region 4 not only play in the Region 4 title game) and Breathitt County has a great coaching staff and they seem to be improved from last year and could be in the thick of things. I would love to see Prestonsburg make a deep run in the playoffs but they have to improve a lot for that to happen. Leslie County could also get hot at the right time and pull a upset or 2 in the playoffs. I know the playoffs are long way off and there is a lot of football to be played...it should be another intersting season for Class AA Region 4.

I'm pretty sure Mayo won't be back for the Belfry game and may not be back at all this season unless some things have changed in the past few days that I haven't heard about. He's a great kid with a bright future,already getting a 31 on the ACT. Pikeville will no doubt miss him and the leadership he brings but IMO they will miss him more on defense than offense.

That is correct.. I didn't make that clear, my bad. When I said Belfry comes to town next week, I meant a week after this upcoming week.

Belfry has to be the favorite but I don't know what the line would be...just a guess out of left field I will say Belfry would be favored by 12-14 points. Belfry has won the past 5 matchups(2001-2005)after Pikeville had won 3 staright in the series(1998-2000)...so the Panthers are due for a win over Belfry but they will have to play a great game to beat their cross-county rival. The past few years this game hasn't even been that close but I don't think it will be the case this year...I expect it to be a very good game this year.

Pikeville will have their chance to get back in the moutain top 10 when Belfry comes to town next week...if Pikeville wins that game they won't lose again until Thanksgiving Day Weekend imo...
