BGP Fan Poll - Statewide 1A

Featured Replies

How do you BGP prognosticators see the 1a shaping up right now.....Of course this could and probably will change week to week, but, as it stands right now, here's how I see it..lets hear your thoughts...

1) Danville - with 3 early quality wins and being undefeated, the Ads have to get the early nod...

2) Beechwood - Yes, they were shutout last week by a good Ohio team, but, earlier quality in state wins would put em here for me...

3) Bardstown - Solid again this year, undefeated against better than average opposition, but, will get a real test this week and then we'll know more...

4) Lou. Holy Cross - Have been solid for 4-5 years now, just hasn't quite climbed the mountain..This could be the year, this week tells alot...

5) NCC - A poor start to the year which had high expectations..Have played some very good competition and will get better as year moves on, still trying to find themselves after heavy losses to graduation...

6) Mayfield - Have shown signs of being a great offensive team thus far, but, have been inconsistent. Must shore up the Defense.Strong early schedule will help...

7) Raceland - Anyone who can knock off Ashland must be pretty good. They could be higher, but, imo, the verdicts still out...

8) Frankfort - Have been solid all year and played with a strong 3a team in Franklin Co..Could be a real sleeper in rgn2..

9) Russellville - Took 1st loss this week against a pretty good 3a team in F.Simpson, but, still alot of talent at the skill positions. Coach Myers has this team believing and could cause problems for Rgn 1 foes...

10) Pikeville - Still the best of the east 1a teams and strong early schedule will make them even better as year wears on...

Thoughts? Agree? Disagree?

Agree.

Looks good to me.

Looks about right...:thumb:

After seeing Danville's highlights last week, they are gonna be #1 until the pre-season rankings for 2007.

Looks good!! :thumb:

Is there anyone who's not on here that possibly should be?

I think you all need to consider Bardstown Bethlehem. They are 3-0. They beat Marion Co., who is a vastly improved 3A team. They shut out North Oldham, who is admittedly weak. They crushed KCD, with their tailback Billy Jackson running for 305 yds and 5 TD's. He is a D-1 prospect. One of Bethlehem's best players is FB/LB Kent Simpson (ask Danville and Bardstown). They have been without his services (injured MCL) until this week, when he came back for about 70% of defensive plays. In the interim, a junior, Blake Stanley, has emerged as a big play threat. The line is small but tenacious. Defensively, the front seven is solid, the secondary needs work. However, there are not many passing teams left on the regular season schedule.

They may not be Top-10 just yet, but they are close.

Thanks, Hearsay...First I've heard of them, but, they may well be a team to watch, not only this year, but, in future yrs as well..

What can anyone tell me about Harlan or some of the other 1a contenders in the east?

Good Analysis!!!

I think I would either put Mayfield & NCC in a tie for #5 or rank Mayfield @ #5 and NCC @ #6

By the way, good job on poll Just4Fun

Very nice analysis of the teams...should be an interesting playoff picture again this year with plenty of great games. Mayfield's offense should get a boost in the next few weeks with the hopeful return of Andy Trevarthan the projected starter at tailback and big senior lineman Landon Heath...with the return of those two to go along with the experience of the players getting time now against outstanding early season competition I believe the Cards offense can be extremely dangerous later in the year...they just have to shore up the defense.

Once again great job on the poll and brief synopsis of the teams.
