This is the way that I read the situation as well. Batter is responsible for bat at any and all points in the follow through, intentional or not. I see what your saying cshs about the difference between contact with the catcher and contact with the ball. Tough sell, I can see both sides (but I definately wouldn't want to be on the side that made the interference call )

From NFHS 2007 Baseball Rules: RULING 20: With R1 on first base, the right-handed batter B2 swings hard and misses the pitch. The catcher, seeing R1 slow in returning to first, attempts to pick him off. B2's follow-through by the bat hits the catcher and causes his throw to sail into right field. RULING: The ball is dead and the B2 is declared out for batter interference. R1 is returned to first base. A batter is responsible for the follow-through of a bat when he swings. (7-3-5c) From this interpretation, I'd say the batter is out.

Just saw that this actually happened in the Cubs/Cardinals game today. Pitch was ball four and the runner overslid the bag.......umps got together and got the out.

Actually the rule DOES say that you can't jump over him.......

From what I understand Gray is walking on at Marshall. Not sure about Murray, but I think he's on some form of scholarship, I don't know exactly how that works with the armed forces. What about the kid from Lloyd? Is he on scholarship or walking on? Anyone know?

How many of these players are actual "signees"? I see a couple that I'm pretty sure are walk ons.

In all seriousness, what coach answers that question with "I'll be here until a better opportunity opens up."? Not a coach that is likely to get the job IMO.........

The fact of the matter is that EVERY decent kid who plays H.S. sports is having his head filled with nonsense about scholarships, money, etc, etc. Coaches point to a player that works at one sport year round and say, "See if you do what he does, you'll get a scholarship." The truth of the matter is that nearly all kids that play sports in H.S. won't get scholarships. And that is fine. Even fewer will make it 4 years playing college sports, and very, very few will become professional athletes. So why limit yourself? IMO I've seen 2 very distinct things. 1. Kids are afraid to be embarassed. I'm not as good at sport A, I don't play as much(even though I'm only a sophomore), so I'll stick to sport B. 2. Kids want to play..........NOW........or else. If you don't play me, I'm not playing. How can any of this be better for KIDS???

Mr. Sensitive these days........ I don't think he was saying that X or T duck the Cincy powers. I think he was questioning why they schedule the Cincy powers but not T and X. Hence the question, "are T and X playing that far up (assuming above) the Ohio teams?" And as a parting gift, maybe you guys should play Union College rather than Highlands or CovCath. Your certainly closer in enrollment, facilities, etc. to Union than those two "small" schools. just kidding by the way...........

On the subject of small schools I'll add this: It's very difficult for these schools to do the things that you are asking. In fact, it is impossible for some schools. The budgetary constraints placed on these schools make it a near impossibility for them to travel "down state" to play schools from WKY and EKY. So the responsibility cannot fall on the coach for something that he cannot control. If all it takes is a phone call, then by all means, if that is something the coach is willing and wants to do. But I don't think part of the job description is "getting players awards". Furthermore, the major flaw I see with the AP vote is that certain areas of the state are underepresented in the voting process. It is completely normal and natural for voters from say, the Louisville area, to want to vote for players from their area. These are the kids they've seen play the most and are most familiar with. If they always touted kids from other places, it probably wouldn't go over well within their respective community. But when half of the AP votes come from one place, that can be a problem.

:thumb: :thumb: Let me preface my comments by saying that I have no prior knowledge of the incident in question. I do know a few things though. First, high school officiating associations are constantly looking for good officials, by all means get out and improve the quality of officiating in our state. Second, these guys are human. They make mistakes. I'm not saying this was one(I actually don't think it is based on what I've heard), but if it was, it happens. They make 60 bucks a game. If you feel you can do better, by all means, please do. Third, the worst thing in the world in any sport for an official to do is to "kill" a play before it's over. As stated by JimmyRef, you wait, wait, and wait some more in a situation like this to be sure. I personally don't like the H.S. rule regarding 4th down fumbling, but it is what it is. One call does not win or lose a game.

I'd have to agree with this sentiment. I for one, was a bit guilty of the type of infraction that you described. My intitial reaction to the teams being named was, how did "this" guy make it over "that" guy. Or I can't believe player x didn't make it! In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best way to react. ANYONE who is even considered for All State is a very good football player in my book. Certainly none of the kids are a "joke". The selection process, the politics, etc. they might be a joke, but certainly not the players. And for the record, if Highlands fans aren't upset at Kramer being left off, then most of us really don't have a pot to go in. :thumb:

For the record, I think that ANYONE who makes the all-state team is certainly to be commended for their efforts. However, we all know that this is a voting process, and anytime you have that, with a small sample, your going to have biases.

About as senseless as saying that a team that made the state finals wouldn't be in the top 5 in Louisville? Doesn't that also do an injustice to the kids that made it there, to harp how the other teams that lost were better? Can't have your cake and eat it too. Chip Burke from Newcath made it over Vince Murray??? Joe Sullivan from HC makes All-State? No Kramer? Now I know there were some great players in 4A this year, and I'm not saying we had the "best" players at Ryle, but one player? I'm not asking for much, but I was pretty sure we'd have 2 somewhere between 3 teams. What a sham.........

I'll tell you one thing, this is beyond ridiculous. Taking shots at a great deceased man, and backhandedly implying the things that you have, is the most offensive thing I have seen on these boards. Randy Cooper was a great man, and there is no need to tarnish his legacy by bringing up such things, surely not while his nephews and wife read this board. I'll agree with that as well. Sometimes its not always about being the "best" just getting hot at the right time. Look at what Pittsburgh did last year. Anyone want to argue that they were the best team?
