Congrats Dixie! Rottinghaus gets the win for this one with Nichols going 2-4 with 2 home runs and Shields going 3-4 and Schaeper going 2-4. Hope Scotts catcher is ok he caught a heck of a game.

Hope the catcher is okay. It was a very entertaining game. The Colonels jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the strength of a Nichols 3 run blast in the 1st inning. Scott slowly got back in to the game due to a couple Colonel errors and some timely hits. After 5 1/2 innings it was 5-4 but Nichols again took Bush deep onto the roof to give himself a 2 run lead. Nichols was lifted before the start of the 7th, and the Eagles tied the score. In the bottom of the seventh the Colonels Joe Schaeper got on with an infield hit. He was then lifted for pinch runner Maloney, who went to second on a sac bunt. Then came the play. Ground ball hit up the middle, attempted back hand by second baseman hit off the heel of his glove and rolled into short center. Not sure if it was the CF or 2B who picked it up but Maloney didn't stop. The throw beat him but catcher caught the ball up the line. Runner dove around the catcher and apparently his foot drug around and hit him.

Also, final was 7-6...not 8-7. My mistake.

The Catcher Broke his nose on the play but will be alright, Maloney can flat fly though. Once again good win by Dixie, sounds like Mr. Nichols had a hell of a game, he can flat out play.

Is Maloney starting for Dixie, his speed could be a major Asset if used in an everyday lineup, I didn't think he was playing because i heard he was just focusing on football.

So was the play controversial? From your description, I wouldn't think it would be.

Well the umpires and Dixie coaches/players didn't believe so, but Scott's fanbase and coach did. I would think the severity of the catcher's injury gave them a legitimate reason to find it controversial

Yeah, that's why I asked baseballguy, because I figured he was there. From his description, it doesn't sound controversial at all.
