Ryle: More with less?

The draw was great for all of the NKY and WKY 4A schools. With that said, we really liked Ryle but they had some preseason injuries in a scrimmage against CCH where CCH put one on them. The week we were ready to put them in the poll they lost to Boone. You could say the Raiders had bad timing. If we were doing a poll today my guess is Ryle would be ranked somewhere around 5th or 6th.

The Ryle Raiders have two very good high school football players, a good draw, and (this is no slight to them) caught some of the 4A teams at a good time (Dixie injuries) and (this is no slight to them) had some teams (a la Boone County) knocked out by others.

Every year teams have to have a little mojo going for them to make a final. Sometimes thats home field advantage, sometimes its a team you might struggle with getting bounced by someone else, key injuries to opposition, weather, etc.

APNW,

Most of all Ryle is peaking about as much as a team can peak right now.

I'll agree with that as well. Sometimes its not always about being the "best" just getting hot at the right time. Look at what Pittsburgh did last year. Anyone want to argue that they were the best team?

But you have to have some breaks and call it good fortune if you want to get this far even if you are Trinity. Ryle didn't have to face the 4A district team (Boone Co) that beat them in the playoffs. That's either good fortune or the spoils of winning the district. Same thing for CovCath. If the last play of the regular season is an incompleted pass then the playoff is at Highlands on a balmy night and not at CovCath on a blustery day. Would it have made a difference? Who knows? What if Lex. Chrisitan doesn't knock off Bechwood last year? Would NCC have won it all? Heck what if Bellevue didn't knock off Beechwood to give NCC the home field all the way thru? Good fortune goes a long way in the playoffs whether you are peaking or not.
