If they had seeded the district in "Hoosiers", there would have never been a movie, cause Jimmy Chitwood's last big shot would have probably been taken in the first round of the district, and they would have lost in a subsequent round...

Thats correct. You don't "bye" into the regional tournament. The loser of game one, drops to play the bye team. It becomes a double elimination to one team so its better to draw the first game than the bye. Example: A beats B. B drops to play C. If B wins that game, A = district champ, B = runner up. If C beats B, there is a championship game and B is finally out.

I agree. I think East has the best first 5 as far as strength and physical play in the region.

Mercer-East game will be the best first round game of the region.

Lots of talent there from last year's district championship team. Not quite sure in weaker region how they can be labeled such an "underdog" that has overachieved.
