If it takes the coach to fire up a team at tournament time, that team isnt going to go very far anyway, IMO. -

If Mercer is at full strenght, which they will be by the weekend, they are a definite contender. as for gchs_uk9, what that guy was telling you is correct. -
SSF's 12th Region Roundup... 2/10-17

The district games vs Burgin at home this year counted double for all the teams. When Mercer lost to Burgin, it gave them 2 losses and Burgin got two wins. East barely beat Burgin by two or three points or Burgin would have been the # 2 seed. # 1 West Jess vs # 4 Burgin, # 2 Mercer with their stud back vs # 3 East Jess. -

Should we call them suicides?

Always heard if someone collapsed and died during one, a lawyer would have a field day in court when he asks the coach what the players were doing. "Running SUICIDES"???? -

Deming split 2 quarters with Burgin. And your right, for whatever reason, Ashland wasn't very sharp. -
Danville will be pretty good. Watch for them with the big center Macon back this year.

At Eubank one night, the janior pushed the broom under one of the star players from the opponent during warmups, and when he twisted his ankle, he crashed into the popcorn machine on stage, spilling hot buttered popcorn on everyone, including himself. As they took him out of the gym to the doctor, the crowd booed him because he broke the machine, then cheered for the janitor as he started sweeping up the popcorn again. Talk about sportsmanship -

Yeah, he had something like 50 points legitimately after 3 quarters, so they just kept taking it out and handing it in to him. PineKnot lost 145-something and Miller scored 40 or so in the 4th quarter. He would miss and PK players would laugh, rebound, and hand it to him to shoot again. -

I love going to Wayne or Monticello on a Friday night where basketball rules over ESPN. I saw Nancy and PineKnot play the night Billy Miller scored 90 points because PK got mad at them for running the score up. I enjoyed watching Burnside go to the semi-finals of the 12th Regional Tournament. I used to love the county tournaments played in both Pulaski and Lincoln Counties around Thanksgiving. I even saw GJ Smith play for the Hazel Green Bullfrogs and had to stand 4 deep during the preseason scrimmages. Wouldnt trade ball back then for this mess they have now for anything. -
The "best" 16 don't get to play in the state tournament anyway. Sort of like the NCAA tournament. I have had 3 sons play on small public school teams. They had wonderful season, good careers, and won a lot of games, but never came close to playing in the "big" state tournament, and the class A state doesnt even compare. I suppose I could have done as other, and transferred them to a team that was sure to go, so they could get that "experience" I read about so much, buth I never felt that was fair or was also a cheap thrill. I felt you should go to school, where you should go to school, and that was in the district you lived in. I know I am arguing with "experts" but also ones who have never seen their sons broken hearted from getting beat by schools that are huge, that recruit, or whatever advantage they can get, or myself, never getting to be a part of my kids being a part of "the greatest show in hoops", but I realistically feel, the majority of kids who play to reach this dream, after they are trhough, wish there was a classification to equalize the competition. I am sure from what I read, a lot of the people who disagree with this: 1. never played a game of h.s. ball, 2. was on a team which qualified for the state tournament, or 3. cheered from the stands of a large team which was in the tournament. So get on me for my point of view, which I know will never change yours, but I assure you, that a lot of people who have fought the good fight, don't agree with the way it works now.

I'm plenty old enough to have been at those games and played against those teams. Stanford High School was good enough in '74 to have made a serious run at the state, if it had not been for Monticello, and the year before, Danville. Wasn't it the good old days when non-county or small public schools were in the thick of the chase? -
Edmonson County was district runner up and then won the state in what? 1975? If that had not happend that year, we would be classed right now. The vote was to take place in the spring following that state tournament, and would have overwhelmingly gone classification due to the Louisville domination, but after Edmonson's miracle run, the vote changed. Ask Bo Bo Davenport. He will tell you that he saved Kentucky basketball, and I used to agree with him. But lately, if you aren't private, or huge, you have no chance. Eveyone says they would rather get a chance to play in the big tourney rather than win the Class A? Well, who wouldnt. But the facts are, go through the regions and see if it isn't the same old names, same old teams for most part...Tilghman, Christian Co, O-boro, Warren Central, Ballard, Scott Co, every year, every year. Face it, there are no Jimmy Chitwoods out there, and no Hoosier stories are going to take place ever again the way the tournament is now.

I think, with 16-18 team regions, it is time to do that anyway. Make it a week-two week event and play down to 1 regional champ. Districts used to have 10-16 teams in each of them back in the 30's and 40's when DISTRICT play was originated. I'm sure they would have never been designed to suit just 4 or 5 teams.

Plus, my son played in the Class A state as a large class A public school team and it was a joke compared to who was actually a "small" school.
