Last year, Lincoln County's Jeff Jackson won 12th Region Coach of the Year with a record of 16-13, but 11-6 in the region. This year, who is the top candidate to win Coach of the Year?

Who won it in 2005? 2004? etc.

I think your coach, Rob Jones, would have to be at or near the top of most lists. Also Rodney Woods for getting Wayne Co. turned around.

Scott Bolin from Garrard County might get some mention. The Lions went 5-19 last season and are currently 11-10. Not a great record, but better than many around the region anticipated.

I was thinking the same thing AverageJoe. Mercer County coach could also be included should they not keep blowing up at the end of the season.

this is kinda brought up in another thread but what about West Jessamine and Hammonds...... had only 1 returning player with varsity experience....

Maybe they can join the threads, although there doesn't appear to be much activity and this was the first thread.

Hammonds has did a great job at West, and if they make a run at the region tourney, then he should definitely be considered. I've always heard that Hammonds could never win a "big" game. For instance, a regional/district championship. Whether that is true or not, I have no idea. With only one returning player, he has done a heck of job.

I added a poll. Reasons behind each named coach:

Robert Jones - McCreary Central

-Leads the region in wins and has turned around the McCreary program in the last two years.

Robert Hammonds - West Jessamine

-First year coach that lost a ton of talent and is still winning.

Jeff Jackson - Lincoln County

-His team is considered the favorite of the 12th and someone has to coach them.

Rodney Woods - Wayne County

-Tripled his team's number of wins from last season.

Mark Flynn - Pulaski County

-Led his team to an impressive record with some great talent.

Nelson Cundiff - Mercer County

-The first year of the "new" Mercer County has had a suprising season.

David Shultz - Southwestern

-After losing their best player, Fothergil, he has led his team to an impressive record, including a great record in the district.

How in the world did Ronnie Bottoms not win it last year. I do not see the merit in improving a team from 6 wins to 16 wins as being a huge jump, not with the players that Lincoln had coming. I thought Bottoms by far did the best job winning with what he had, and the run they hit at the end of the year rivaled anyone in the state. I hope we do not see a replay of that this year but it is looking like Boyle is starting to roll at the right time.

Hammonds has never been in a situation where he has had the material to win a big game or been in a region or district championship. Has been the underdog everytime.

Ronnie Bottoms did not win it last year because Jeff Jackson got more votes.:D

But I agree with you 100% Ronnie Bottoms should have won "coach of the year" in the 12th last year. As a matter of fact Robert Jones from McCreary should have gotten it before Jeff Jackson.

I dont know who votes on these things but when South won the State 2 years ago, Steve Wright wasn't voted the coach of the year. I dont really like Wright, but when you win the state you should be coach of the year in your region.

Shawn Thacker won it in 05, when Somerset went to the All A finals...not sure about before that

Isn't the coach of the year voted on before the state tournament. They are introduced during halftime of one of the state tournament games aren't they?

Also the voting is done by other coaches in the region isn't it, so if certain coaches aren't liked very much it could cost them a vote or two.

Lots of talent there from last year's district championship team. Not quite sure in weaker region how they can be labeled such an "underdog" that has overachieved.
