I get what you're saying. I do. But ultimately, it doesn't help to get your head beat in physically year-in and year-out by bigger, faster, stronger teams than yourself. Colerain wanted to continue the series' with both Ryle and Highlands and were rebuffed. If "playing up" helps make you better, why wouldn't they do it? They took this same philosophy with Colerain. After our two games, and knowing that these uber-talented classes were on the way, my understanding is that our coach reached out and offered to renew the 2-yr deal and was summarily dismissed. No interest whatsoever. My $0.02...this is a good matchup for Ryle. LaSalle is a private school in the GCL-South but they are a Division II size school. Meaning, they roughly 500 boys, grades 9-11 (Seniors are not counted in official counts as they are leaving and are not used to determine classification in future years). I am all for playing good contests. However, and I've said this before, I think there is an upper-limit to what you should schedule. You don't have to win every game, but you should be competitive. For that reason, I would argue that under no circumstances should anyone in NKY schedule the following schools: Colerain Elder St. Xavier Moeller There just simply isn't a scenario where any team in Boone, Kenton or Campbell county is going to compete with these schools, even in their best years. There are a hundred other excellent football programs to call on that are better fits for teams in the Bluegrass than the above four. By the way, I think we are already seeing that realization sink in on both sides of the river. This is the first time in recent memory that none of the above schools have a game with NKY. In an interesting twist, LaSalle and Sycamore play each other in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown at Nippert Stadium on Friday Aug. 26th. Would be a good game to check out if your team isn't playing that night. -CardinalsFan

Many on this side of the river feel the Lancers will start an eventual slide back to mediocrity (where they have lived their entire life, sans the past two years) but even if they do, should still be a good matchup for the Raiders. Colerain vs. Warren Central and St. Xavier vs. St. John Bosco (4 ESPN300 players), capped by Elder vs. an always solid Pickerington Central team from the Columbus area. Do yourself a favor. Couldn't disagree more. Look, what drives the success of this event is the big crowds driven by Colerain and the GCL-S schools. Who from NKY can consistently compete with these schools that you would pit them up each year? Colerain and St. John Bosco will be ranked in the top 25 in every national pre-season poll. St. Xavier has an Elite 11 QB. Who in KY is going to match up with that? Come on, man!! -CardinalsFan

No. There is no mandatory stay. They stay in D2 as long as their enrollment dictates it. They CAN NOT move up. Which, make no mistake, they would never want to do as evidenced by the last two years. I mean, imagine having to go through the GCL, Colerain, Wayne and potentially St. Ignatius or St. Edward from Cleveland, NOT TO MENTION the most powerful team from Columbus to win a state title in D1? Before 2014, LaSalle had never one a single playoff game. Now, they are back-to-back champions?? Yeah, they'll stay in D2 thank you very much. However, make no mistake, they take a significant step backwards next year. 22 seniors walk out the door and while they will have arguably the pre-season player of the year in Jarrell White back as a Senior, they just lose too much to compete. Wouldn't shock me to see a 5-5 season next year and then a potential return to mediocrity for the Lancers. They won't be able to sustain this level of success. -CardinalsFan

I've said that a hundred times. Run ball, avoid turnovers, play good defense. In order for Colerain's offense to work, though, you need to be fast across the board. Specifically at the OL spots. Lots of pulling and blocking down field and you can't be big and slow. -CardinalsFan

Because there is a whole lot more to running and paying for an event like this than just the rental fee. It is better at Mason. The place will be packed and it will be an awesome environment for both fan bases and all of Southwest Ohio. If you are a fan of high school football and don't have anywhere to be on Saturday night, I would suggest getting up there.
