Glad to be back. Not sure how much I'll be posting but love reading the insight from the knowledgeable posters on BGP. Update on Ohio: Gov. Mike DeWine will address contact sports in Ohio today which will provide real direction for high schools going forward. Very different approach than KY. I'm curious your take on this guru because you have long been a naysayer of this event as you believe it is a cash grab for the event organizers and the "middle men", whoever that maybe, and here we have proof that the schools, not In-game Sports management, sets the prices. Completely ignorant response. This is not the reason the format changed. Ohio teams consistently beat the teams from KY and IN. The organizers have had to bring in the best teams from the tri-state to try and match up with the marquee names from OH in the event. Even that is usually not enough. They often time reach out beyond the tri-state area for decent competition. That being said, I do not like the way this event has gone. Bigger is not always better and that applies to this event. It was marketed as an opening weekend type event that was special because it was limited. It was an honor to be invited to play because you were a part of something special. Now you get Lloyd vs. Beechwood and Woodward @ Withrow...Zzzzz.....zzzzz..... -CardinalsFan

Wow...I thought this topic was dead...clearly, I was wrong. Not the first time, won't be the last. It seems I was off in thinking there is no interest in this from a portion of Trinity faithful. Glad to see there is. I think it would be an amazing opportunity for the kids and families involved. The positives far outweigh the negatives, and it's not even really debatable. For total transparency, I have personally asked this question of my own alma mater several times and have yet to be really satisfied with the reasoning. Will continue to probe until I get a better answer. Trinity to Alabama to play Hoover? Georgia to Colquitt Co.? Come on...how AWESOME would that be?! No missed school, just a chance for these boys to bond together in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent all that is good about Trinity in front of a whole other community. Ok...a couple of posters who I respect and feel has a pulse for the people of the Trinity community say 6A State Titles in KY are enough, they're enough I guess. Tell me, how proud do you feel sitting here on November 1 knowing your alma mater is going to win their 25th State Title and will do so comfortably? Does that actually give you a sense of pride? Beating up on a bunch of schools that could never hope to compete with you? Would never presume to know, let alone tell, someone else what is best for them. I was just merely asking why a program with the long history of success that Trinity has doesn't try and up their game now and then, that's all. -CardinalsFan

There is no agenda. It began from this comment: "They won every game on probably the toughest schedule anyone in the state of Kentucky has ever played." Which, after the season is over, clearly holds no water. I don't disagree with your bolded comment above. Things are "fine" the way they are now, no question. You sound like an old person who doesn't want to put in the work to strive for excellence. A person who doesn't want to do everything possible to give these young men, who pay a butt-load of money to attend your alma mater, the best possible experience while sacrificing hundreds of hours every year to put Trinity in the record books with their 800th state title. Is that who you are? More importantly, is that what they taught you at Trinity? Trinity 2017..."Strive for Fine...it's good enough!" Trinity can keep doing what they are doing and keep winning 6A KY Titles...which mean absolutely NOTHING when you consider the parameters by which their school is filled vs. those of their competition. I mean, how much can a "State" title really mean if in reality, you only ever have 1 other school to worry about? Honestly. That's why I raised the topic of playing outside their little 100 mile bubble. Yeah, playing Indy powers and Cincy powers is "fine", but if you are trying to demonstrate to the young men you are grooming in your halls that you should strive for excellence in everything you do, why not SHOW them that in the most high profile output the school has to offer? And don't give me any garbage about football being "secondary" at Trinity. It is the #1 most recognizable commodity at that school, PERIOD. Not the drama program (do they even have one?), the academics, the faith-based outreach...none of it brings in the cash and attention that the football program does. Not. Even. CLOSE. Not to derail the thread, but the only thing that needs work in Ohio is to separate the publics and privates/open-enrollment schools come playoff time. It makes no sense having teams play each other with two different sets of rules in regards to how they got the athletes that wear their uniforms. So, there is some interesting conversation on this thread. I appreciate the Trinity fans not jumping down my throat for the wrong reasons. My question was authentic and one that I think is fair to ask, as do most of you, obviously. As THS2011 stated, there are plenty of opportunities to "raise the bar" for Trinity Football. I am not saying this has to happen every year, but a flight to Florida, D.C. or the NY/NJ metro area to take on a National powerhouse can ONLY be good for the school brand. And let's not kid ourselves, branding is INCREDIBLY important to a school like Trinity. You think if your rival, the Tigers, decided to do something like that, the Rocks wouldn't get the wheels in motion to do the same thing? Come on... -CardinalsFan

Louisville -> Ft. Lauderdale vs. St. Thomas Aquinas (2h 15m) Louisville -> Las Vegas vs. Bishop Gorman (4h) Louisville -> Tampa vs. IMG Academy (2h) Louisville -> Dallas vs. any number of teams (2h 20m) So basically everything Las Vegas and east is available. Takes out basically California, which is fine because their teams are generally overrated anyway. So what's the hold up? -CardinalsFan PS: No issue with district schedules. They are what they are. You have to slaughter your local 6A hogs every fall for sustenance through the winter...I get it.

I don't know what that is or how they work, but I don't need a computer algorithm to tell me that schedule is not good...again, after the fact. Going into the season, it looked very good. Can't blame Trinity for that (sans a game or two). But to applaud them AFTER the season is over knowing how poor some of those teams are compared to what Trinity rolls out every Friday night, is just silly. I agree with you. They would beat most teams in KY...that says a whole lot more about the state of HS Football in KY than it does about Champagne High! :ohbrother: They are a 2A size school. That is a school that is between 1 and 290 kids. When you play a school that small, it isn't about "3 or 4 recruits", it's about depth. There is literally NO WAY that school can match the Shamrocks depth or size/strength on the lines of scrimmage, which is where games are won....no way. Interestingly, you know who else is in the same classification and region that Champagne is? International School of Broward, or ISB. Why is this interesting? Well, it's interesting because ISB traveled to Cincy this year to play...guess who...Elder, another private school 3 times their size. The Panthers beat them 62-6. :irked: Trinity has no business playing a school that size...NONE. This was a matter of needing a home game and not stepping up and signing a home-and-home with someone else. My guess is they are not returning the trip and going to Florida next year? -CardinalsFan

I'm sorry, gotta jump in. Please, don't take this personally. What, EXACTLY, has this team proven? If the below schedule is the toughest, or even second toughest, that "anyone in the state of Kentucky has ever played"...wow, not good. Not good. At. All. Carmel (IN): 5 - 4 Warren Central (IN): 6-3 Moeller (OH): 4-6 Male: 8-2 Champagnat (FL): 5-2...2A size bilingual Catholic school with like 300 TOTAL kids, grades 6-12...really? Jeffersontown: 3-7 St. Xavier: 8-2 Eastern: 5-5 Seneca: 0-10 Ballard: 5-5 Total W-L Record: 49-46, .516 winning % Again, not trying to pick a fight here but could it be that the competition in KY is just so far beneath Trinity that they look a lot better than maybe they are? Again, not trying to pick a fight here it just frustrates me to no end that a school Trinity's size, with all of their advantages seems to be perfectly happy with their ultimate football goal being to win a 6A State Title in KY...which is equivalent to winning a "Prettiest Pig" contest. :idunno: What is preventing this school from taking on a national schedule? Lack of interest in doing so? Lack of funds? What? There is no reason Trinity should not be scheduling Bishop Gorman, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. John Bosco and other national powers on a year to year basis. Maybe I'm over-reacting a little, I get it. Names like Carmel, Warren Central, and Moeller look impressive on a schedule...but when you boil it down, it's still two schools from Indianapolis and a Moeller team that hasn't been relevant in 4 years. I wish the best for Trinity. I really do. I just wish they would step up and challenge themselves at a level worthy of their status. FWIW, this game means absolutely nothing to the Bombers from a playoff perspective. They are going to go into the regional playoffs in Division 1 as the #1 seed in Region 4. Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are traveling to Louisville to simply "go through the motions", especially after the loss they took on the chin last week to Iggy, but if injuries are a factor, I imagine those players won't play.
