  1. First off, I'm glad my prediction was wrong. OHS didn't play well last week against Graves, and I was afraid it'd carry over to this week. Henderson was finally healthy and there was a recipe for an upset. OHS was having none of it. After a great opening kickoff return deep into OHS territory, Henderson punched it in on Damian Carters 1 yard plunge on 4th and 1. After that, OHS basically shut down Hendersons offense. I love the pressure that OHS brought by blitzing the linebackers. Tavian Board was a beast and Malik Mundy had a pick six. Carter from Henderson took some shots tonight but to his credit he still finished with 150 yards. All in all, a solid defensive effort from the Devils. OHS does need to shore up their kick coverage. Henderson had too many yards on returns. Offensively OHS was solid. OHS qb Zach Gross did a good job of managing the offense. He kept some on the zone read which provided a ton of running room. He thew some good balls but I'd like to see him hit that dee ball to Barrett when Jahlil was behind the Henderson d. I thought the pass to Tavian on 4th and 5 was nice as well as the touchdown pass to Kishawn Walker. Landon Board was his steady and explosive self with 187 yards. OHS played a good game tonight and they need to keep the business mindset moving forward. This team has a chance to win state but they have to approach every week equally. Next up, Grayson County.
  2. Is he related to Michael PS Hayes?
  3. Just wanted to remind folks to come out to the back parking lot by the gymnasium at OHS for the fundraiser for Landon Board's dad Lawrence, who is getting chemotherapy treatment in Cincinnati.Everything will begin at 5pm and there will be baked good for sale as well as folks taking cash donations. We welcome anyone, including Hendo folks to swing by and donate as well. Go Devils and tackle this dude:
  4. Love it. As for this game, I think McCracken is vastly overrated. They have a dynamic playmaker in Hughes and a solid QB in Jones. I do think the overall team talent will tilt heavily in favor of BG. Bowling Green 49 McCracken County 21
  5. Rambo, yes Tavian Board the LB, not Landon Board the RB. Purple, yes GeKove is out the rest of the year. It's a massive blow to the Red Devils' defense. Board will be back soon. Not sure if it's this week, but he'll be back.
  6. Brown, I'm not sure but I hope so! I also hope your prediction holds true. Logically, I agree with you but for some reason, OHS craps the bed against Hendo lately. With last week's performance against Graves, it looks like it could happen again. Also, I think Hendo is as healthy as they've been since week 1 so it could be that this will be a good game no matter how OHS plays. Hendo was the walking wounded from about game 3-8. They started to heal up and got most everyone back against DC. OHS will have to play well just to win.
  7. This is a hard game to predict. It always seems like on paper OHS should beat Henderson but tends to lose to them, considering the past 5 years. I think Henderson is finally getting healthy, which is good news for the Cols. While Henderson is not deep, they have some talented kids and a huge offensive line. Obviously Henderson will look to get the ball to Damion Carter at least 30 times, but the real key for the Cols will be if they can have success passing the ball when needed. It's really a page right out of the Graves County playbook. Senior QB Dustin Simpson will be the starter but Henderson also has the choice of bringing in Freshman QB Skip Patterson if needed. Patterson is more athletic and can give you the running threat from the QB position. I don't have any defensive stats for Hendo but the Cols are giving up 32.3 PPG. OHS meanwhile has to show up with a workman mentality, which is something the Devils failed to do last week. OHS did miss the services of stud LB Tavian Board, and hopefully he'll return this week against a potent running attack of Henderson. On offense, OHS needs to execute. That sounds simple, but no one person has to carry the load. If the line blocks, QB runs the correct plays, and the backs run hard, OHS has a huge advantage. Landon Board has been tearing it up and some people are calling for more carries. I like what the OHS staff is doing by splitting the carries with TJ James. That keeps both guys fresh, reduces the chances of injury, and gives you more opportunities for explosive plays. Henderson has beat OHS 5 years in a row. FIVE FREAKING YEARS IN A ROW. It's time for it to stop, but for some reason, Henderson plays their best ball of the year in this game and OHS just doesn't. I'm going to say that the trend continues and Henderson squeaks out another close one at Rash. Henderson County 21 Owensboro 17
  8. First off, I want to give Graves all the props for their effort tonight. OHS did not play like the #2 team in the state tonight and the Devils are very fortunate to get the win. While I think OHS laid the proverbial egg tonight, they still got the W, which is all that matters. Graves sr RB Dakota Dixon was great and deserves all the praise he gets. OHS just has to put this game behind them, learn from it, and get ready next week against Henderson County. As for a potential playoff matchup, I hope Graves makes it to round 2. I'd love to see a rematch at Rash. I don't think Graves gets past Greenwood, but if they do I'd love to see OHS try and right the performance from tonight. Congrats to Graves for almost pulling the upset and congrats to OHS for finding a way to win.
  9. I'm encouraged by the score. This OHS freshmen group is a little down in terms of overall team talent but the kids have worked extremely hard. This OHS freshman team would've been a lot better had QB Chandler Crite not transferred to Daviess County. He is getting varsity reps out there as a freshman, so i guess it's working out for him. OHS and BG have similar talent pretty much every year. BG has excelled at the varsity level, which has been the big seperation point over the last 10 years. On the lower levels (middle school, frosh, and JV) it's typically a war. 1st year OHS head coach Jay Fallin is doing a great job so far, and I honestly think he can help elevate the OHS varsity program to BG's level as well. I agree Purple88, good series and rivalry. It's now up to OHS to make it GREAT again!
  10. Both teams have to take care of business to get to the rematch. I'm not ready to talk about that game just yet, but to say OHS won't beat BG is overlooking a quality squad. I do think both teams will play much better than the last time they met. OHS is only worried about Graves County right now.
  11. That's a good questions Purple88! I would like to know that answer as well. I think OHS should drop Madisonville and Warren Central for the time being. I would like to see OHS pick up a game against Reitz, Gibson Southern or a solid Southern Indiana program. I wouldn't mind seeing OHS play a Louisville school or a Tennessee school either. I see no reason for OHS to not be at the level of BG and I think the Devils are moving that way. OHS will lose a lot this year but they have some unreal talent coming up. Quality depth is the key to championship football and I think OHS has the head coach and quality assistants to make that push to get to BG's level.
  12. Owensboro will make the over 2 hour trip to Graves County Friday night in an attempt to finish the district portion of their schedule without a loss. Graves County is an up and down team that when they're playing well, can put a scare into a lot of teams. I've seen posts from Graves County folks who believe this team is getting better each week. I'd even be willing to say there is a quite confidence down there that Graves can pull the upset over the heavily favored Red Devils. In order for Graves to do that, they'll have to establish the run game. The good news for the Eagles is they have the services of senior RB Dakota Dixon who has rushed for 872 yards this season. If Graves can run the ball, they'll eat clock, and that'll open up the passing game when needed. Doing that, will be easier said than done against a very stout OHS defense. Owensboro is only allowing 64 rush yards per game and is averaging 253 yards rushing themselves per game. If Graves is able to slow down the OHS rushing attack, QB Zach Gross is an efficient 56-89 with 8 TD's. Graves will need to win 1st down a lot this Friday to have a chance. OHS' 2 headed monster running back combo of TJ James and Landon Board keep fresh legs coming at a defense for 4 quarters. I think Graves has been circling this game for a while and I think they feel as though this game will be a measuring stick for them. I look for Graves to come out playing hard and with a lot of emotion. OHS just needs to be efficient, not have turnovers, and play solid football and they'll be fine. I can see this being a game for a half, maybe even longer. I do think the depth and big play capability of OHS will wear on Graves and the Devils win going away. OHS needs to take the "business trip" approach Friday night. Owensboro 49 Graves County 21
  13. Again, I don't have a pulse on the Bowling Green area at all, but how many out of district athletes does BG's sports program have? I've heard a lot about this, but again, I have no pulse on what's going on down there. Wasn't it the case that there was going to be a court hearing over the amount of out of district kids BG independent was getting? I do realize that if your kid is a stud athlete, BG's sports programs do have great coaches/facilities and win at a high level. Not saying I'm faulting anyone, just wanting to know what's up! As for this game, I'm rooting for WC. It's hard for me to see this once proud program fall like this. I think WKY football is so much better when WC has a solid football team. I've played against the Dragons back in the mid-90's and always respected them. As for South Warren, they are a fast rising program, which you have to tip your hat to. I still can't considering them a powerhouse until they beat a powerhouse themselves. The Spartans are also getting the benefit of playing at a level that's much below their enrollment numbers for the past 5 years now. I did catch some hudl film of SW, and they do have a nice looking team. Decent size, nice athletes, and solid execution are the things that stood out to me about SW. South Warren 35 Warren Central 14
  14. Of course they will. Hendo can be 0-9 going into the OHS game and look like a top 5 team that week lol.
  15. Best two I've seen is Owensboro's Imonte Owsley and BG's Vito Tisdale. Both are exceptional athletes that will take it to the house if they get a step. If there are better athletes than those two, i'd be shocked.
  16. I think this game will depend on how healthy Henderson is. If the Colonels are at full strength, I think they'll give DC fits. If not, DC is healthy and I look for the Panthers to have the advantage. Not ready to predict just yet........
  17. You never know how games will go but I think it's a longshot for Graves to beat Christian County, let alone Owensboro.
  18. Not that it matters but when Daviess played McCracken, DC was without several players most notibly John Stratton, Jared McEwen, and Jonathan Powell. There were a couple more that set out but I can't remember their names. DC is a team that has some talent in their starting lineup, but they don't have the depth to lose those type of players. McCracken still would've won but I wouldn't base much off that game. I think McCracken rolls again this week. Henderson's only shot is to get Carter going and control the clock.
  19. I have watched some hudl highlights of South Warren and I do think they're a good team. I'm just not convinced they're better than BG, OHS, McCracken, or Mayfield. I don't get all caught up in the classification of opponents but rather the quality of the opponent. Central Hardin is good but I'm not sold that they're any better than a Owensboro Catholic this year. The bottom line is South Warren and BG need to play on the field. Somebody needs to make it happen.
  20. My question is this: what has South Warren done to warrant the respect they're getting? I realize they are a young school, but they pulled big numbers and have always had the benefit of being a larger school than the class they're playing in. Until South Warren shows me something or plays a good schedule, I can't put them over BG, OHS, or McCracken.
  21. I knew it wouldn't take long, lol. I agree on the if's and butts part. Those two things never won a single game. You bolded some of my quotes there but you forgot the part where I stated that "I give the Birds all the credit for coming back". I take nothing away for ya'll. You stated OHS got outcoached and outplayed which is true, but it was more the outcoaching part than anything. Highlands couldnt guard #13 Rodney Collier in a phone booth and yet the coaches forgot he existed in the second half. Water under the bridge and Highlands will always be the 2014 4A champs. The better team doesn't always win and I'll always be convinced OHS was better than Highlands last year. Highlands has the rings which is the only thing that matters.
  22. For the record, BG and Pulaski deserve to be ranked ahead of OHS. Pulaski is the defending champs and BG beat OHS head to head. Just wanted to be clear about that.
  23. I don't mind OHS not getting a lot of attention. I know what OHS has. If not for an epic meltdown last year in the state championship they beat Highlands. I give the Birds all the credit for coming back, but anyone with a right mind knows OHS gave that one away. So I'll just set back and be content with OHS flying under the radar. Being #1 at the end of the season is all that matters anyway. Just ask the OHS basketball team last year. :thumb:
  24. The shot to the nuts was totally uncalled for. Kid needs to be discliplined for that. I heard also that OHS linebacker GeKove Gardner is out for the rest of the season as well. That is a MASSIVE blow to OHS' state title hopes. I hate it for him and hopefully it's not as bad as they think. Always get a second opinion. As for the game, OHS' offensive line dominated the trenches. When a team can run the ball at will that demoralizes the other team very quickly. To Christian County's credit, they didn't give up and had some success throwing the ball. CC has some nice athletes and most of them will be back next year. The only drawback I see to Kolbi Langhi's game is that his release is super slow. He is gonna have to work on that in the offseason but with only being a sophomore, he has plenty of time to fix it. When Gardner got hurt for OHS it really hurt the Devils ability to pressure Langhi and cover in space. I noticed the Tinsley kid #10 returned and I was under the impression that he was out for the year so that's a big return for OHS. OHS did have some frustrating penalties and turnovers. Barrett's turnover at the goal line before halftime just can't happen. He did however, make up for it after halftime by returning the kickoff for a touchdown. I also would like to mention that QB Zach Gross is starting to come along nicely. He's throwing some good balls with a high completion percentage. The good news for OHS is they have some games coming up where they can work on things and hopefully get backups some reps to increase depth and keep the starters from getting banged up. All in all, very good win against a quality opponent. As Apollofan98 said, OHS isn't playing their best ball yet which is scary. I'm perfectly fine with that because they team is improving every single week.
