I think the streak gets broken this year. OHS has more then 1 back to carry the load.

OHS was very mediocre 2010 to 2012. Before 2010 OHS ran off 4 or 5 in a row. This is a very old rivalry. OHS moved the ball well last year, but if I recall had an INT and 2-4 fumbles. Locher missed a few wide open passes that would have resulted in a TD (I think it was his worst game last year). It was close in the 3rd quarter. OHS was driving in the 4th to make it a 1 score game and fumbled. I'm pretty sure Henderson scored twice in the last couple of minutes to make the score 44-18 with starters in trying to score in the last minute. But all is fair in this rivalry.

 

This game from last year and the Highlands game are probably 2 of the reasons why Greer was moved to full-time defensive tackle (he was both ways last year). I hope the MLB Board is back. On offense, I expect the play calling to be better than last year. OHS needs the QB to keep more and more plays called for Barrett and Walker. OHS needs to hang on to the ball this year.

 

I expect Henderson to employ the same approach they used against Daviess County which was a couple extra lineman and try and get 3 or 4 yards a carry for Carter. And yes they have a big O-line like Owensboro does as well as some big backups (check out the maxpreps videos). Last year Henderson spread Owensboro and ran the read option with Carter's brother. Does OHS stay in a base 3-4 defense when Henderson lines up with an extra lineman or two? OHS front 3 is pretty stout - Greer and big 51 with the speed of Crowe.

 

The key for OHS is to get a few stops and get a lead on the scoreboard.

I disagree with 2010. They were mediocre when Kal Prince got injured, but as a team they were good.

 

I think this is the year they win it, but I thought that last year and they got beat pretty bad at Henderson.

In 2010 the offense relied upon Kal to make the decisions and he was great athlete, once he was out, the were very mediocr (Got beat by Grayson County in the playoffs)

Owensboro should win this handily. Henderson has gotten better/healthier through out the year but OHS has a 2 headed monster in the backfield, good defense, and has the size to compete with Henderson upfront.

I think Owensboro should win unless they turn the ball over alot. They are at home and that's 7 right there.

This is a hard game to predict. It always seems like on paper OHS should beat Henderson but tends to lose to them, considering the past 5 years. I think Henderson is finally getting healthy, which is good news for the Cols. While Henderson is not deep, they have some talented kids and a huge offensive line. Obviously Henderson will look to get the ball to Damion Carter at least 30 times, but the real key for the Cols will be if they can have success passing the ball when needed. It's really a page right out of the Graves County playbook. Senior QB Dustin Simpson will be the starter but Henderson also has the choice of bringing in Freshman QB Skip Patterson if needed. Patterson is more athletic and can give you the running threat from the QB position. I don't have any defensive stats for Hendo but the Cols are giving up 32.3 PPG.

 

OHS meanwhile has to show up with a workman mentality, which is something the Devils failed to do last week. OHS did miss the services of stud LB Tavian Board, and hopefully he'll return this week against a potent running attack of Henderson. On offense, OHS needs to execute. That sounds simple, but no one person has to carry the load. If the line blocks, QB runs the correct plays, and the backs run hard, OHS has a huge advantage. Landon Board has been tearing it up and some people are calling for more carries. I like what the OHS staff is doing by splitting the carries with TJ James. That keeps both guys fresh, reduces the chances of injury, and gives you more opportunities for explosive plays.

 

Henderson has beat OHS 5 years in a row. FIVE FREAKING YEARS IN A ROW. It's time for it to stop, but for some reason, Henderson plays their best ball of the year in this game and OHS just doesn't. I'm going to say that the trend continues and Henderson squeaks out another close one at Rash.

If we only score 17 we deserve to lose. I agree that having Board back in this one is HUGE. Owensboro is very fast on defense and I think that they will have to use that advantage to get into the backfield (Crowe, Mundy,Tinsley). Greer made some great plays last year at Henderson but didn't play maybe 1/2 the time on defense. Owensboro moved it well on Henderson last year just fumbled too much. Owensboro is moving it again on everyone and Board, James, Walker, Barrett can all score in an instant. Owensboro too experienced not to be ready for this one. I believe the defense will be up for the challenge and Board goes wild. I'll make a bold prediction - Gross throws for 2 TD's.

Brown, I'm not sure but I hope so! I also hope your prediction holds true. Logically, I agree with you but for some reason, OHS craps the bed against Hendo lately. With last week's performance against Graves, it looks like it could happen again. Also, I think Hendo is as healthy as they've been since week 1 so it could be that this will be a good game no matter how OHS plays. Hendo was the walking wounded from about game 3-8. They started to heal up and got most everyone back against DC. OHS will have to play well just to win.

Hopefully the dud game was the Graves game. Win the TO battle and OHS wins

Is it confirmed that Gardner is out for the year? If he is and Boards is away some too, that is tough for the Red Devils D. Not saying they wouldn't be any good, just thinking it's hard to replace Seniors like that who are Really good.
