Poll: Owensboro Catholic vs. Evansville Mater Dei (IN)
Rambo! You gotta add a poll, lol. Most folks think by name, Mater Dei rolls in this game. What people don't realize is that Mater Dei lost a ton of last year's team, but do return all state QB Kurtis Wilderman. Mater Dei and Reitz scrimmage every year, and by a lot of accounts, the fans on the west side of Evansville are getting restless with Reitz coach Andy Hape. The only hesistation I have in picking OCath for the upset is the lack of varsity experience in key positions, most importantly, quarterback. The Aces are EXTREMELY talented at all the skill positions. However, there is a youth movement on Parrish Ave and it may take time to come to fruition. I want to pick OCath in this game, but my mind is telling me Mater Dei and Wilderman will be too much. Awww heck, I'm going with the Aces to hold it down for the 270! Owensboro Catholic 31 Evansville Mater Dei 28

3A #5 Caldwell County at 5A #3 Christian County
There is no doubt in my mind that Christian County is athletic of a team as you'll find in Kentucky. However, this Caldwell team is going to be very good and can match Christian County in spots. My question is this: can Christian County play sound football, not turn the ball over, and drive the length of the field if needed? I think Christian County wins, but just to have a week 1 shocker, I'm going Caldwell. Caldwell County 38 Christian County 35

5A #5 Owensboro vs. 4A Warren Central Predictions
JCrowe86, I understand your concerns about OHS' defense, but keep in mind: there were 9 new faces on the field last Friday against a Hopkinsville team that's as good as they've been in years. Give it about a month or a month and a half of live, game action and you'll see a totally different defense. OHS doesn't lack talent or speed on defense, they just simply lack varsity snaps that you can't replace until the new guys get those same snaps. As for this game, I think Warren Central can come out and keep it close for a half potentially. I did hear the Dragons have some good athletes still on the field, so if WC comes into Rash and doesn't turn the ball over, the Dragons could hang in there. I do think the second half will be difficult for WC due to shear numbers. OHS has a seperate offense and defensive line. Some skill guys are currently going ways, but many do not. I hate this situation for Warren Central, their alumni, Dragon Fire, and the community down there. It's not right, but it is what it is I guess. Stay healthy Dragons! Owensboro 49 Warren Central 21

4A #7 Hopkinsville vs. 5A Graves County (8/20)
After seeing the Tigers in person last week at Rash, I have to say, Hoptown has speed to burn. It seems that team speed is always the achilles heel for Graves. I can however, see Graves being able to run the ball on Hoptown. If Graves can make this an ugly, slow down game, and force some Hoptown turnovers, I could see Graves winning. I just think the homerun hitting speed of Hoptown will be too much in the end. Hopkinsville 35 Graves County 21

Owensboro 50 Hopkinsville 34 (scrimmage)
The varsity portion of the scrimmage ended at 28-28. Hoptown has several great athletes, especially the QB and receiver. OHS won the trenches and Hoptown won the speed matchup. I do believe Hoptowns 1st unit came out to open the 2nd half, but OHS stopped them and then put their JV in. In the JV portion, OHS won 14-0 behind the great play of sophomore qb Zeke Brown. The freshmen part ended 8-6 in favor of OHS with OHS freshman Monte Owsley scoring his first high school td. I didn't make it to the scrimmage until it was 21-14 Hoptown so I missed quite a bit of the action. I think tiger fans are going to be in for a treat this year. OHS' defense will get better as they're playing 9 new faces this year. Good, solid scrimmage for both teams and I look for both squads to make some noise this year

BG Purples future
Plus you never know who's going to join the team after that. It's open market nowadays and that's not a shot at BG. It's everywhere. :thumb:

BluegrassPreps - Western Kentucky Pre-Season Power Rankings - 07-29-16
I figured that was your reasoning. If I was a Graves fan, I'd feel as if OHS was overrated too. OHS flat laid an egg in that game and Graves almost (should have) made them pay. It's kinda what happened to BG when Graves upset them a couple of years ago. Graves is the type of program that isn't going to beat you with talent and numbers, but will do it with execution and heart. Graves may very well beat OHS, but if ya'll do it "rather easily", I'll be "rather shocked".

Bowling Green is on FIRE this summer!!!!
Honest question here, no funny business intended. Are these kids transferring in for their parents relocating to BG for employment reasons, or are kids just going there because BG is becoming a public football prep? I'm not familiar with BG's roster and where they come from. Is the Purple roster made entirely up of kids who attended BGJHS or do kids find their way to BGHS? Again, I honestly don't know. I'm just astounded at the amount of talent BGHS is producing. I see OMS and BGJHS play about every year and there isn't much difference at the middle school level. If anything I'd give the edge to OMS. Again, just asking.

BluegrassPreps - Western Kentucky Pre-Season Power Rankings - 07-29-16
This is a FANTASTIC preview! Great work Purple 88! One team I have an eye on is the Greenwood Gators. This team has a ton back from a squad that pushed OHS and BG for a half. Throw in super talented athlete Willie Reynolds and this Gators team now has the homerun threat to go along with the ground and pound option attack. There are many talented QB's in Western Kentucky but maybe the most underrated is Jackson Adams. I don't know about the Gators defensively, but I'm telling folks, watch out for this team. If we get a cold spell during the playoffs and you gotta go against that brutal option attack....... I think Hoptown is going to be vastly improved. Caldwell intrigues me because I don't get to see them at all. I could be wrong, but I think McCracken is probably a little overrated. Owensboro is about right where I think they should be. The Devils have to replace a ton of defense but their line is MASSIVE. Bowling Green is still the standard, and anything less than another state title would be a failure for the Purps.

South Oldham/Owensboro Catholic predictions (Sweet 16 1st Round)
Catholic plays a very aggressive 2-3 zone. South Oldham will have to penetrate or hit shots. I'm not familiar with South Oldham but if they don't have a guard who can penetrate the zone, that'll heavily favor the Aces. Rupp can be brutal to teams who like to shoot, so if South Oldham is made to shoot, it could spell trouble. Owensboro Catholic 57 South Oldham 52

KHSAA Sanctions Graves County Boys' Basketball for Bylaw 16 Violations
8th graders transfer to different districts all the time and the KHSAA ignores it. Why don't they crack down on all the 8th grade football players that transfer to Mayfield? Please! Do tell!? How many of Mayfields roster didn't attend Mayfield Middle School? This is interesting. As for this whole Graves thing, it's comical that the KHSAA comes down on Graves, yet ignores all the blatant recruiting that goes on among powerhouse programs in multiple sports across the state. Graves is the last school that would come to mind when it comes to violations Trust me, Graves Co. does not have to "recruit" anyone from Hickman Co. The kid wanted to go there.

3rd Region Rankings (1/11/16)
OHS was flat awful against Catholic last Friday. Hinton is off the team and Ishawn Murphy wasn't at the game on Friday. Hopefully he's not off too. Such a promising, fun, rebuilding season, all of a sudden looks to be a "lets just field a competitive team" right now. Gonna find out a lot against Apollo tomorrow.

Looks like a great list to me! Good work.

Meade County 70 Breckinridge County 63
Meade had a solid hold on the #1 spot in the 3rd region. Breck gave them a good game and the tigers are a factor in the 3rd as well. Gonna be a wild ride in region 3!

Christian County 71 Owensboro 63
Good effort by the Devils. I didn't get to go but I was listening to the play by play from Jerry Birge. Sounds like Corey Gardner from OHS had 30 and the combo of Ware and Sebree was too much for OHS. I think CC is legit and it'll be interesting to see how far the Colonels can go. OHS is a post player away from being able to play with pretty much anyone. The Devils did get Tavian Board back tonight which helped. OHS is 1-4 but I like this team. They are super young but watching a team mature is a part of what makes high school sports fun. I think OHS will be dangerous come tourney time and next year they'll be back in the mix
