JDEaston Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) The Red Devils are an intriguing team this season. They finished 11-2 last season, making it to the third round of the playoffs until suffering a 41-12 loss to eventual state champion, Bowling Green. Owensboro lost a lot of talent from last years team, however the cupboard is far from bare with Landon Board (running back; 1,800 yards 21 TD's last season) leading the way. Warren Central looks to improve after a 3-8 season, losing a close game versus Hopkinsville in the first round of the state tournament. What do you think? EDIT: Could a mod please add a poll? Adopted Purple Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I'm afraid this will be one of many blowouts for the Dragons this year.
Purple88 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I'm most interested to know how many Dragons show up at Rash. No way they will be able to compete for 4 quarters against a very solid team with an OLine that averages near 3 hundo. And honestly they shouldn't be expected to.
Bear3 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 This year will be the end of a five-year period that will see Warren Central go from being a top 10 team in Kentucky to a program that can barely survive a season, much less compete with the schedule they must compete against. Owensboro, John Hardin, McCracken Co., Meade Co, Bowling Green await in the first 5 weeks. Not sure a roster of 25, most of which have never been on a varsity field, can survive that schedule. It takes a lot of bad decisions to go from the penthouse to the outhouse. WC is almost there and not one student-athlete is to blame.
JCrowe86 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I don't know what WC looks like this year but if they have any speed and a passing game OHS could be in for a game. I know it was just a scrimmage last week but what I saw didn't impress me. The basically new defense for OHS has got a lot of work to do if they want to keep teams from putting up points. Even with Board in the backfield I'm not sure the offense can put up the numbers they will need to overcome the defensive growing pains. Hope I'm wrong but time will tell. I'll still be there every Friday cheering them on. Edit - So from the above posts maybe we roll this week. We'll call that more of a seasonal outlook.
devils58 Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 JCrowe86, I understand your concerns about OHS' defense, but keep in mind: there were 9 new faces on the field last Friday against a Hopkinsville team that's as good as they've been in years. Give it about a month or a month and a half of live, game action and you'll see a totally different defense. OHS doesn't lack talent or speed on defense, they just simply lack varsity snaps that you can't replace until the new guys get those same snaps. As for this game, I think Warren Central can come out and keep it close for a half potentially. I did hear the Dragons have some good athletes still on the field, so if WC comes into Rash and doesn't turn the ball over, the Dragons could hang in there. I do think the second half will be difficult for WC due to shear numbers. OHS has a seperate offense and defensive line. Some skill guys are currently going ways, but many do not. I hate this situation for Warren Central, their alumni, Dragon Fire, and the community down there. It's not right, but it is what it is I guess. Stay healthy Dragons! Owensboro 49 Warren Central 21
DragonFire Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 This is going to be the first Warren Central game in 13 years that I miss. That in and of itself is pretty tough for me. I echo most sentiments that I really hope that Central (and Owensboro of course) can make it out of the game whole, without significant injuries. That really will be the mantra in many games for the Dragons, especially the gauntlet they face in the first five. Owensboro will have their way in this one, just hoping for improvement!
Brown Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Central always has athletes...I expect it to be a game for at least a half and maybe more. Big online for boro, but defense worries me although some great athletes. I expect 28-21 in a closer than expected contest.

No way they stay close to Owensboro. I'm just hoping no one gets hurt. Trying to play 4A football with 25 or so players is really dangerous in my opinion.
