Interesting book in the western genre. Set in the 1850s. Was recently made into a movie starring John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix. Looking forward to seeing the movie now that I've finished the book.

Not sure. Just because of logistics (central Kentucky, not many teams had lights), my guess is Madison Central didn't venture out of state much. The Indians averaged 10.7 runs per game and allowed just 2.2 (Trinity scored 9.3 and allowed 1.9). I did find that Harrison's lone loss in 1997 came to Miami (Fla.) Senior High School on a spring break trip and were ranked 12th in the country in mid-May 1997. They didn't lose again so I doubt they dropped, but I don't know their final ranking.

It's tough to compare across eras but Madison Central went 40-0 in 1982 and Harrison County went 40-1 in 1997. I don't believe there were national rankings at that time. Certainly, this year's Trinity team has a strong claim, too.

Absolutely wild, troubling story. A novel, but a pretty realistic look at influencer culture and some others things, too.

For those who don't know, this is Brian Britt, who was a terrific basketball player at Warren East and then at Centre College. Many of you will remember his younger brother Jeremy who was an excellent football player at Warren East before transferring to Danville for his senior season in the late-1990s. Brian was an assistant coach for both the boys and girls basketball teams at Boyle for many years and has just completed his third season as the head coach of the girls team, compiling a 61-30 record and a district title this season.

If you did something like this, I think you'd be better suited to drop to five classes, take the best 8 teams in the open division, then everyone else competes for the other five titles. That way you'd stay at six champions.

Second book in a series of three. If you like history (in particular US/Soviet relations) and spy novels, you'd like these books. I'm looking forward to reading the third one.

No, the Riherd's/KHSAA scoreboard will function as is until June 30, at which point it will change over to something operated by Arbiter. Arbiter is a program originally used to pay officials but now allows coaches to load rosters, develop schedules for games and practices, keep track of physicals and trainings and any number of other things. The scoreboard will be something else entirely but you won't be able to connect until July 1.

Per KSR. That's 12 guys so I doubt they add anyone else unless they find a project to redshirt.

Wild situation in 1968 - Anderson and Frankfort were in the same district but didn't play each other (at the time you only had to play four district games). Anderson went 4-0 with wins against Boyle, Garrard, Harrodsburg, and Georgetown. However, none of those teams were very good. Frankfort finished 3-0-1 with a tie against Stanford, good enough to win the district. Frankfort would lose to Bardstown in the playoffs on Friday night, then came back on Monday night and tied Anderson for the CKC championship, a game the Bearcats dominated statistically. You have to wonder if they had played in the regular season would Anderson have made their first appearance in the playoffs that year? It wouldn't be until four years later (1972) when Anderson County would go to the playoffs for the first time. Future Kentucky Wildcats basketball star Jimmy Dan Conner caught a touchdown pass from Mr. Crawford, who treated you guys to the cookout. Outgained Frankfort by 100 yards and forced four turnovers but it wasn't enough. A muddy night at Stoll Field in Lexington.

You could see this coming from a mile away. That said, Riherds was very unique and expecting something similar probably wasn't practical. The KHSAA sent out a email to coaches about a month ago with a tutorial about how to use the new scoreboard and it did look like there would be some cool features. I'll admit though, I didn't spend a ton of time looking deeply.

I try to read a book before each World Cup. Soccer (whether you are a fan or not) actually makes for good reading because there is always more going on besides the game - especially events like the World Cup with national teams - and Simon Kuper has written many great books that I'd recommend. (Ajax, the Dutch, & the War; Soccer Against the Enemy; Soccernomics). This was written more like a collection of newspaper articles and blog posts but definitely worth reading if you're interested.

If you're interested in religious history, this is good (but not great). I thought it bogged down too much in the final third dealing with the rise of Pentecostalism.

While I get your point, the situation might be that the school lacks teaching positions, lacks quality applicants, or its too late in the process for someone to leave and an "interim" agrees to do it for one year - they make themselves the interim. I also think the language used on this board tends to be like what we say regarding college and professional jobs, especially after firings, and probably not the best way to describe a high school coach making a few thousand extra dollars.

Big recommendation for this one. As some of you know, my goal is to read one book about each season in Major League Baseball history. This was about the 1903 World Series, the first ever, between Boston and Pittsburgh. More specifically, though, it was about Protestant and Catholic Boston; Irish, Italian, German, and Jewish immigrants in both cities; coal mining in Pennsylvania. Its probably the best I've read to this point.

My goal is one per week, and because of my job that is sometimes easier and sometimes harder. As for what I read, I'm in the process of reading a book about each professional baseball season (I'm at 1903 right now so a ways to go!) but beyond that I just pick up what looks interesting. I do keep a running list on Amazon, although I rarely buy books. If I come across something that looks interesting, I put it on the Amazon list then have my local library either get it or do an Inter-Library Loan where they check it out from another library.

It won't be much different, but it will give some different opponents to schools that don't typically make it beyond round 2. I like the idea.
