FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JUNE 13, 2026

The Trinity (Louisville) Shamrocks won the 2026 KHSAA Baseball State Tournament championship, presented by UK HealthCare.  The Shamrocks defeated Boyd County 12-0 in five innings.

Trinity’s starting pitcher, Grayson Willoughby, tossed a 1-hitter when his bid for a no-hitter was broken up in the 5th inning by Kaleb Kelley.  Willoughby was named the Morgan & Morgan MVP of the tournament.

The Shamrocks are the first school to win back-to-back KHSAA baseball state crowns since Harrison County in 1997-98.

Boyd County finishes the season at 29-8, advancing to the finals for the fourth time in school history.  The other years were 1988, 1998, and 2001.

Congratulations to the Rocks! ☘️ ?

This felt inevitable, given the arsenal of arms Trinity was working with this year.

Congrats to the Shamrocks! Greatest KY team of all time?

It's tough to compare across eras but Madison Central went 40-0 in 1982 and Harrison County went 40-1 in 1997. I don't believe there were national rankings at that time. Certainly, this year's Trinity team has a strong claim, too.

Out of curiosity, what did those schedules look like? Not to down play their accomplishments, but were they playing oos programs?

Not sure. Just because of logistics (central Kentucky, not many teams had lights), my guess is Madison Central didn't venture out of state much. The Indians averaged 10.7 runs per game and allowed just 2.2 (Trinity scored 9.3 and allowed 1.9).

I did find that Harrison's lone loss in 1997 came to Miami (Fla.) Senior High School on a spring break trip and were ranked 12th in the country in mid-May 1997. They didn't lose again so I doubt they dropped, but I don't know their final ranking.
