  1. Illinois 7A Championship Wheaton North 35 St. Rita 6 Catholic schools win 4A (Joliet Catholic) and 5A (Fenwick), and lose 7A. Publics win the rest (two publics in remaining 8A game). The Public/Private debate will be calm for another year.
  2. FYI—Update…. St. Rita (11-2) will play Wheaton North in the 7A Championship Saturday afternoon at 4:00. The two regular season losses were to Chicago Catholic League rivals Mt. Carmel (16-9) and Loyola Academy (37-7).
  3. Same score as regular season game. it was the Seth Huff show tonight for Corbin, as he rushed for 4 TDs. Corbin continues their domination in 4A District 7. Clayton Davis had three scores to set the Lincoln school career scoring record, passing Michael Penman (1987 and 1988) by 2 points. Lincoln Scoring -2:28 1st Clayton Davis 36 yard pass reception from Sawyer Horton (kick failed) -0:01 2nd Clayton Davis 2 yard run (Cody Carter 2-pt pass from Davis) -8:12 3rd Clayton Davis 13 yard run (Colby Townes kick) Corbin Scoring -6:46 1stQ Seth Huff 17 yard run (Jacob Baker kick) -9:24 2ndSeth Huff 6 yard run (Baker kick) -4:59 2nd Seth Huff 6 yard run (Baker kick) -10:14 3rd Seth Mills 6 yard run (Baker kick) -2:59 3rd Seth Mills 27 yard interception return (Baker kick) -6:16 4th Seth Huff 15 yard run (Baker kick) Link to video:
  4. Clayton Davis is the epitome of an outstanding high school football player, and should be in the discussion. He has played QB, RB, and WR. He is the kind of kid, who, even though undersized, would be effective at left tackle or any spot on the field. in 2020, they played him at quarterback and he rushed for over 1,000 yards in the Covid-shortened season. He also passed for 372 yards and had 307 yards receiving last year. This season, in addition to 58 tackles and an interception on defense, his offensive plays from scrimmage have accounted for: 1,902 total yards 70 receptions for 1,166 yards 62 rushes for 736 yards 14.4 yards per touch 22 touchdowns On average, he scores a TD every 6 touches. He is leading the state in receiving yards and is the first 1,000 season receiver in school history. In addition, he is now third on the school career scoring list, just 16 points away from the leader. In the 49-22 win last week, he had 4 touchdowns and 246 combined yards on 10 touches. For the past two weeks in a row, he has scored on long touchdown runs after taking the snap at QB on the first offensive play of the game.
  5. Final from Barbourville. These two teams will meet again two weeks from now in Stanford, as the 2 and 3 seeds. Video linked below.
  6. Final from Stanford. Lincoln County gets its first district win in the current alignment, and records it’s first defensive shutout since 2015. While Clayton Davis is a threat every time he touches the ball, the team wins when both Davis and Lee Amon are in the lineup. Amon gives them a toughness on both sides of the ball. Keeping Amon healthy will be important to finish the season strong. Amon had touchdown runs of two and five yards, while Davis had a 35 yard rushing jaunt and a 33 yard receiving score. Clayton Davis is now 4th on the school‘s career scoring list, 22 points behind 1993 Mr. Football Jeremy Simpson, who sits in third. Video link:
  7. I enjoyed watching the game with you, and it was great to finally meet in person!
  8. I saw this game. Impressive finish, but the game was sloppy with nearly 10 turnovers.
  9. I was watching Jesuit take down St. Thomas Aquinas. I’ll try to see a Countryside game this year.
  10. I have been out of Chicago for 7 years, but I am well aware of St. Rita. One of the stalwarts of the old Catholic League Blue Division, now a part of the Catholic League/East Suburban Catholic Conference. They are an all-boys school on the south side of Chicago, competing for students with Mt. Carmel, mainly, but also with Brother Rice, and even co-ed Marist. Year in and year out, one of the best teams in Illinois.
  11. I heard that, too, Rockcastle is going all-virtual and cancelling all sports through September 7th.
  12. Mt. Carmel won this Catholic League slugfest on a blocked field goal return. These two teams like to rip on each other on the Illinois board. The classic is “How do you get a St. Rita grad off your porch?” Pay him for the pizza. https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3380975/rip-st-rita-football.-this-is-the-absolute-worst-way-to-lose-a-high-school-football-game
  13. Correct. There were too few remaining, unfortunately. Not too few of the right players, either. Literally too few to play 11 man football.
  14. Lincoln cancelled the Pulaski game solely due to the protocol that requires players to be quarantined after being exposed. Lincoln didn’t want to cancel that game. They had to.
  15. A cautionary tale..... You’ve been free of your abuser for 9 years. They beat you off and on for over 40 years. Yet, the years softened the memories. You have both changed some, recently, and you decide to give them another chance. It was a mistake, and you get beaten again. Then, to add insult to injury, two days later, they call you to tell you that they may have infected you during your encounter. Now, you have to cancel a date with someone you would have rather been with anyway, and explain that you can’t see them because you may have been infected by someone else. Dating, domestic violence, and STDs? No, football. Lincoln and Danville football teams.
  16. Larry Vaught is now reporting that all of the boycotting players returned to practice today.
  17. I was there for the 20-0 LC win in 1988. This is first time in the 25 game series, including the 1988 game, that Lincoln is being picked by so many knowledgeable fans as the favorite.
  18. These rushing numbers will be revised in the official stats. The 80 yard touchdown by Davis was actually a jet sweep pass, so he will have +80 receiving and -80 rushing.
  19. Lincoln County rushed for 467 yards on 26 carries and tallied 7 rushing touchdowns. MVPs were: Clayton Davis (LC), 7 carries 208 yards, 3 TD Guy Bailey, led the Jumpers in rushing
  20. The video stream will be delayed until the game is over. The ticket sales are a fundraiser for the boosters and they didn’t want the live video, so we complied. Radio will be live. No video next week at Danville at all, not even delayed. They won’t allow it.
  21. The Boyle County game is not on the KHSAA schedule. Is this for sure?
  22. This should be an easy decision for any parents who started their children as the youngest in the class. It is a freebie with no stigma attached to “being held back”. With an October birthday, I could have played high school football for two more years after I graduated. I also would have been a better student with two more years of maturity.
  23. Great news for Highlands and Kentucky high school football.
