  1. I watched Gaither host Armswood several weeks back. I came away impressed by Armswood. I see they both lost.
  2. I had it in my mind that he had been head coach at Woodford County but he was an assistant. Human memory is not a reliable source.
  3. The public is fickle and society is changing quickly. Attendance at all spectator sports is down while tv viewing is up. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should and schools need to think twice about live video streaming unless they monetize it and, even then, is that a good trade off for the lack of community fellowship that is generated in a packed gym or football stadium.
  4. He pled guilty. Duffy pleads guilty to sodomy charges - The Advocate-Messenger | The Advocate-Messenger
  5. Nicholasville High School, which consolidated with Wilmore to form Jessamine County High, which has been split into East and West, had the nickname Tarantulas. They were sometimes called spiders in articles.
  6. I’m not married to the RPI, but they’re already using it. If not that, then some other non-geographic criteria. Something needs to change and it sure isn’t playing your same district teams in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
  7. They don’t have to opt in. Only if they think they can beat all comers.
  8. Here’s an idea for an Open Class that would declare THE state champion. It would also help to fix the watered-down playoffs and pointless districts. Go back to 4 classes PLUS the open class. The winner of the Open Class gets to be called the State Football champion. All other class winners are CLASS winners. After the regular season, the teams that want to compete for the Open Class, (limited to 16 teams) notify the KHSAA and appropriate brackets are designed for the 5 tournaments. The Open Class gets at least one bye week the first week the playoffs. If more than 16 opt in, the priority is by RPI. No districts. After the teams elect to play in the Open Class are known, the remaining 4 classes are filled out by RPI totals. Open Championship Class by choice Top other 32 RPI teams are in 4A Class 33-64 RPI teams are in 3A Class 65-96 RPI teams are in 2A Class 97-128 RPI teams are in 1A Class This is done regardless of enrollment, past success or any other factor. Just the current season RPI. Seeding will be 1-32, regardless of distance. Everybody else turns in their uniforms. If no team but Trinity opts for the Open Class, they are THE state champion. In a year like this, Boyle County could opt for the Open Class and prove they’re the best. Can you tell that I am tired of 6 classes and mediocre football?
  9. The world is different now but when I played no seniors and no starters played JV.
  10. I saw a social media post that a certain team wrapped up district play as their district’s champion. From my understanding, it is too soon to make such a claim. The winner of Round 2 of the Playoffs is the District Champion. From KHSAA website: PLAYOFF BRACKETS - SECOND ROUND, ALL CLASSES In the second round, the winner of the game between slots one (1) and two (2) will play the winner of three (3) and four (4), and so on through the bottom of the original 32-team bracket. In all second-round games, the team with the highest seeded position (finishing position in district) shall host the game. The winner of the second round games will be the District Champion and the team not winning that second round game will be the District Runner-up.
  11. The Patriots set a school record of three overtime losses in a season. Heartbreaking to lose one OT game, but three? C’mon!
  12. Is there a waiver for an in-season transfer in this case? There should be.
  13. This is not about player safety. It is about having a plausible defense to brain injury lawsuits. There is too much money at stake and potential deep-pocket defendants. The line will be, “We took severe measures to make a violent game safer. We undertook studies and implemented a plan to eliminate the cause of these injuries.”
  14. Lincoln County High School 46th Season (thru week 3 2019) 513 games 276 wins 237 losses This program is a successor/continuation of Stanford High School’s football program, which played football continuously between 1901-1973 and was a charter member of the KHSAA. Combined, that’s at least one game per year between 1901-2019.
  15. These lists are hard to do because of different eras. You mentioned one of our best ever players as a coach: Snookie Wooldridge. He had a great season in 1961 on a not-very-good team. Until the final game of the season with Paris, he was the CKC leading scorer. I’m living in the past right now with my football research. Lol Lincoln County career rushing leader running backs Scott Newcomb (89-92) 3,770 yds, 346 pts Jeremy Simpson (91-93) 3,495 yds, 296 pts Michael Penman (87-88) 3,317 yds, 358 pts Trent Calhoun (04-06) 2,713 yds, 256 pts Athletes Ronnie Wilkerson, 4 year starter in football, basketball and baseball in an era where that was very unusual. Signed to play QB at EKU after 1979 season. Kelvin Givens- was heavily recruited nationally and signed with UL after 1989 season. Played all skill positions and defensive back. Kenny Phoenix- fast, elusive, tough. Had an unbelieveable number of all-purpose yards. Played every skill position and was deadly as a returner. Played at Georgetown college after 1983 senior season. I don’t have time to make a case for all those who deserve it but I will list some game-changer names that you may remember, in addition to those above: Aaron Simpson Chris Vanhook Tra Carey Jason Smith Jack Smith Donnell Smith Dion Shannon David Francis Maurice Napier Braxston Miller Mike McGuffey Ryan Young Nick Hill Kelvin “Big K” Alcorn David Lawson Bobby Johnson Levi Rogers Pete Penman Jeff McGill Rodney Turpin Brian Turpin I have attached a picture of the all-State list.
  16. Lincoln County was a CKC member. We were Co-champs in 1981. Stanford was a founding member tof the CKC and KHSAA.
  17. He’s a gamer. Stated last year as an 8th grader. We like to call him a redshirt freshman.
  18. We’ll agree to disagree. I have rarely seen it but high-fiving, fist-pumping and openly applauding on press row or in a press box is unprofessional.
  19. I assumed everyone was aware of the book “No Cheering in the Press Box” by Jerome Holzman. From a personal view, as someone with a radio station call sign on his birth certificate and who has covered local games for almost 40 years, I think it is unprofessional and bush-league for a working sportscater to openly cheer for teams. You knew Cawood Ledford wanted the Cats to win. He didn’t have to say it.
