Prestonsburg is in the same boat on the other side of the 2A bracket. As long as they keep winning, the Blackcat's path, is Middlesboro - Corbin - NewCath. All of these teams are in 2A's top 10.

I'd love to believe that P-burg ought to win by 30+, but the trouble with that logic is...it just ain't that simple. Much of what determines the winner of a single game is how the competing teams match up. For whatever reason, Prestonsburg's matches up well against Breathitt Co. most years, hence P-burg's success over the Bobcats. Perhaps Middlesboro's aggressiveness on defense was taken advantage of by Harlan Co's "run it down your throat" patient attack - yielding big plays when the Bear RB broke through the LOS. But against Breathitt Co.'s 6-0 (or 4-4...not sure) front, the opportunities for big plays never came. See what I'm getting at ? The point is... once you put together a 2-3 game link in indirectly comparing teams, matchup advantages/disadvantages are no longer accounted for.

Please SPARE me... :cry: The officials didn't force the fumble that made the difference in that game. There was only ONE controversial judgement call that happened earlier (the inbounds/out-of-bounds reception for a 1st down). Amazing how time has exaggerated the perception of officiating bias. The disbelief the Blackcats actually beat the Bobcats must run mighty deep. :eek: I had thought the Jackets were pretty hard-nosed, but to bring up a game not involving Middlesboro that happened 5 (?) yrs. ago argues otherwise. Pre-game excuses ?? :confused: :creepy: Regardless... I think we'll see a very entertaining game Friday.

Actually, these two teams are very much alike in their offensive and defensive play styles. You could call Bath Co., "Corbin light". Usually when two similar teams play, the difference is personel. Though anything can happen, Corbin has a distinct advantage here. Corbin beats Bath Co. 9/10 times.

This has the makings of a very entertaining game. How do you all see this one ?

Paintsville won, but it took 3 quarters for the Tiger staff to see its team's biggest advantage over Pineville. Once they realized Doderer was consistantly beating the Mountain Lion defense to the corner, Paintsville got the game under control. The score is indicative of how this game was played for 3 quarters. If the Tigers had, from the begining, emphasized its outside running game (like it did in the 4th) this game wouldn't have been as close.

Mixing up one "Fort" with another is hardly comparable to the mythical destination of "Johnsonville". I've been in NKY enough to know all the "Forts" are pretty much interchangeable, sans their football teams, anyway... :lol:

It's all about whether Shelby Valley can limit damage from Hunter Adams. If SV holds him under 5 yds/rush and doesn't give up any big kick returns, they have a shot. I figure the Wildcats may eek out only 14 pts on the Middlesboro defense, so SV's defense MUST keep it low scoring.

It's not a problem with "heart". It's the opposite. What's been happening is the younger linemen on the defensive side of the ball haven't been maintaining gap assignments, most especially when the opposing offense plays a spread. Offensively, P-burg has had as many turnovers the past 2 weeks as the rest of the season combined (excluding the Beechwood game). In addition, the field it played on Friday literally slowed down the Blackcat outside running game. When Craynon can't run/cut at full speed, the corner becomes much harder to reach (not to mention the difficulty pulling linemen have in the muck).

I have no doubt of that. Very fast and quick. More moves than Ex-Lax.

Very interesting re-match. The game played earlier featured 92 points in a wild offensive show. Green Co. will be playing this one without its season-leading rusher (Rogers is out for the season). I'll take Washington Co. in the upset here.

Yeah, but the Tomcats make that up with playing the bulk of their non-district games at home. Ashland is infamous for insisting on it. In that way, they're a lot like Bell Co. :bunny:

The field was a "little slick" like a Habanero pepper is a "little hot". :creepy: FG kicker Jamerson was the player of the game for P-burg. He hit all three XP's. Other than Hazard, Perry Central has the most QB-centric offense I've seen. The muddy field served him extremely well last night. Very impressive running - reminded me of Fran Tarkenton (showing my age), size and all. One thing is for sure...P-burg does NOT handle a slick field well, at all.
