You are dead on............ Is this the basketball coaches problem or is it the fact that these football/basketball players are pressured into concentrating on football for fear that they will never see the field in football?

You are correct, it was 1982 and 1983 not 1981 and 1982.

And I guess that the girls program is right. The problem is that football is pumped into these kids heads from grade school on. There has been no organized basketball league in Ft. Thomas since my Dad ran it for a number of years. For all of the bashers, I ask why you do not step up and get something organized. The reason is that it is easier to complain and bash rather than stepping forward. Also, where would you like for this league to play its game? I have made inquiries and been told that there is no guarantee that a gym would be available every weekend. Another problem is that you have people coaching youth teams that have no interest in teaching the game, rather they want to self promote their own kid. Also you have too many kids on the Middle School team that have no business playing either due to lack of ability and/or discipline. The basketball program is always going to be dependent on football players. Always has been and always will be. One final point, the 1981 and 1982 regional champ teams contained at least 5 football players on each team.

Those were the same teams mentioned by the man himself.

Highlands was never not in this game. In fact, they led a good portion of it. Simpson had a chance to tie the game and missed the second of two free throws. Hurtt rebounded the miss with 3.8 seconds left and missed both free throws. St. Henry then made one of two with 3 seconds left. Nice out of bounds play just went off the finger tips of Drew Simons as time expired. With the style of play being used and the number of contributors this team will be in most games that it plays in this season.

I believe that Eaton scored 6 and Hurtt did not score. Some of these guys are still getting the football rust off.

First off this stuff does not need to be in this thread and secondly since none of you guys were there you should not speculate. Drew Simons was the first guy off the bench and picked up 3 fouls in the first half. Played a pretty decent floor game, but did struggle a little with his shot. Probably a combination of not being in that situation for some time and getting the football rust off.

He played substantial minutes in the varsity game tonight against Highlands.

This came was never close after the opening tip. Everyone played in the game and most of them scored. Simpson and McGraw were very impressive. Also thought that Luke Stein made a pretty good showing. Definitely think that the style of play will help this team immensely.

Highlands finally opens the 2006-2007 basketball season with a home game against Newport. Have not heard much about either of these teams during the preseason. What kind of game can be expected?

What makes you think that Guidulgi has the tools and poise to be the quarterback next year? What meaningful minutes did he get this year in varsity action? The answer to that was very little. Most of the time when the second unit went into the game, Jay Draper was playing quarterback. The question I have is why he was playing when you could be providing valuable time to a sophomore and considering that Mr. Draper had been moved to wide receiver.

Who are the players that have transferred to Highlands?

Just curious, how many of these guys played football say as freshman and then gave it up completely to concentrate on basketball?

I continue to hear the complaints of the coaches at Highlands not getting involved with the kids at a younger age. I ask, where are the parents that would be willing to volunteer to help get this program off the ground. I have spoken with both the girls and boys coach and they are willing to lend a hand, but they cannot be involved with running a youth league and coaching their respective teams. If those of you that have raised this issue have any ideas, PM me and we can have some discussions. I think that this thing is a little closer to reality than some may think, however there are more hands that are needed to make this thing work.

Easiest Route I know of: I-75 North to I-275 East to I-471 North. Take the Memorial Parkway exit off of I-471 North. Take a right off of the exit ramp and go through the stop light. Drive a 1 or 2 and go through a second stop light. The next stop will be at a 4 way stop sign with a Marathon gas station on your right. Go through the intersection and the school will be on your left about after about 1,500 yards. Try to find a parking spot somewhere on the street around the vicinity of the school. Be sure to say hi to the little man taking the tickets at the entrance.

I thought that Highlands definitely outplayed Elder tonight. Elder is going to struggle in the GCL this year. Thought that Cecil played a very good game tonight, but something needs to give with the pass routes that they run. You cannot complete passes when all receivers run to the same side of the field. Still do not understand why there are not 2 guys back on punt returns. If there are 2 back, the punter is not the player of the game.

You will be pleased to know that the gym has finally been upgraded somewhat. Floor was completely stripped and repainted.

I would not necessarily say that speed is what beat Highlands on Friday. Yes it was a factor, but there were numerous missed tackles, especially in the first half. Tackling was much better in the second half and the score reflected that. If I am not mistaken does Dixie not have quite a few returning players both on O and D. Really do not understand the outlandish predictions for the final score of this game. Dixie will not play the same 11 in the box defense that Male played so Highlands may not be able to have all of the long plays for TD's that they had on Friday. Fully expect Highlands to win, but feel the margin will be more in the 3 touchdown range than the 50 or 60 points blowout. Does anyone know what time the game starts on Friday? I have heard that it was starting at 7:00.

A 15-0 record and defeating the 4A state champion is all that needs to be said.
