Birdsfan: You are right on! Fox news now has the river cresting at 52'. Last evening they had it at 54'7". If the river stays around 52' this will be a moot point! Still wonder what the flood stage is for the field... just in case we get this type of rain again in the next 100 years!

That was my thinking... if the creek between Bellevue and Newport continues to get backed up and floods, Bellevue may just get a Field Turf playing surface afterall! Unfortunately, it will have Red and Black endzones. Time will tell - hopefully all work out for the Wildcats on the levee.

Ohio River is expected to crest Sunday evening at 55' in Cincinnati. That may change as more rain continues today in northern Kentucky. What is the flood plain for Newport's new Field Turf field? In other words, what will it take to float the field?

Public... Northern Kentucky hands down. Private... Jefferson Co and southern Indiana.

Glad you figured it out 'cause I couldn't find an argument with Ryle getting a donation for Field Turf. AS mentioned in a previous post - there are some districts that are considered the "haves" and others the "have nots." This characteristic is true with the public school system as well as the catholic system. Does Field Turf automatically mean you are in a system of a favoralble tax base? Most likely, yes! Be it a favorable residential or light industry and commercial tax base. Does it mean it's unfair to other schools that are not in such a tax base? No. Highlands, Beechwood., Newport, Dixie and Covington Catholic all had to go out and raise money for Field Turf. I would venture to say all of them had at least one major doner that got the ball rolling to make it plausible. (I can only think of one school that did not have to go through the fund raising efforts that the five schools above went through and that is Johnson Central. (JC received thier money from a coal tax subsidy.) So, if Boone Co HS wants Field Turf and there are enough supporters in Florence with the same dream, it will happen! Congrats to Ryle... I for one would love to see their program develop. We as northern Kentuckians should all pull for a higher level of competitive football in northern Kentucky.

The 2007 senior photo was auctioned off at the Bluebird Bash at Paul Brown stadium as planned. Wow... didn't know about the plexiglass. That was nearly $350 for the two sheets. The photo was donated by Mark Majors. The picture was blown to the 4' X 8' size by a close relation to Mark Majors for a very reasonable price. I secured financing for the paint, plexiglass and some odds and ends. Another poster on this site kindly donated the construction grade metal board material and elbow grease. The long range idea was to have the senior picture w/ senior cheerleaders produced every year. I don't know who took off the plexiglass but the photo and the board took some skill, material and donated time to make it happen! I agree for the most part. However you left out how much the student athlete wants to be a part of that winning tradition. There are some schools around here that had winning programs... but as time passed so did their appetite for winning. Once the flame goes out... it is extremely difficult to get it rekindled. As long as the other northern Kentucky teams do not step up their level of play with the Highlands, Covington Catholics and Beechwoods -then these programs will never progress to the level of play that is consistently demonstrated in Ohio. I will say pound-for-pound, (male enrollment), schools in Ohio, Texas and California could not match the calibre of play exhibited by the three teams mentioned above.

Very classy assessment... I agree with you 100%. They played hard, had some fun and showed class from the 1st game of the season all the way to the state championship! As DMZ76 previously mentioned, I also hope the younger Birds took note and will follow in the same foot steps as the 2007 squad. And, I am sure they will! :thumb:

Cant' leave out Oliver Head from HHS. Ollie was simply a standout during the playoffs on special teams. He was in on the tackles on nearly every kickoff return and made some stellar plays on defense and offense. I am thinking Ollie will have a breakout season either on defense or offense or perhaps, both!

Wow... I stand corrected! Thanks 72birdman! I will say since it really is a Bluebird it resembles more of our linemen than the RBs and DBs!

I am thinking that he will be able to coach during the week and then will not be able to be near the vicinity on game nights. He will most likely scout JC's second and third game of the season or perhaps Highlands and/or Covington Catholic during the two game suspension...

Is it really all the coach's fault for kids not showing for practice? Shouldn't some of the ownership come from the parents? If Owen plans to get to the next level - the attitude starts in the locker and weight rooms and should be nurtured by the parents who support the program... Owen could have Rich Brooks as head coach and the team wouldn't respond without help and support from the community.

Anyone able to substantiate the $100,000? It should be public knowledge... I find this too hard to swallow for any high school football coach. Kentucky or Texas! I find it more difficult if the money is being culled from Frankforts' educational subsidy! I did not say the "K" word...

Congrats Adam... I am sure your pappy and moma are very proud of you and your efforts as a Raider! Going to a great school, getting a fantasic education and playing football close to home... it simply does not get better than that! :thumb:
