If you can't do that then you need to seriously consider the stability of your job to begin with. I heard Yeagle is going to start a football program at Walton - Verona. And if that happens that will be a drain on the 4A schools.

He might challenge for the points but it will be awfully difficult to surpass the team success that Mason experienced with a State Championship and a Runner Up. And that could be the difference. Lofton had a great surrounding cast and they all played together to win.

Didn't know the play involved the Heil boy. He is good ball player and is as spirited and competitive as Ben G. Therefore I am sure they were going at it all night.

If the player is making a legitimate effort to block the shot it is not a technical foul when you hit the back board. That rule was changed. It is no different than when a lot of players slap/hit the back board when making a layup.

I think Coach Schlarman will talk with Ben G. regarding the last 2 games. I think he will pat him on the back for his tremendous effort but will also speak with him about the T's and the impact it could have on a close game particularly in the district or regional tournament. The T's don't help Ben and they don't help the team. I am very confident they will be addressed. I didn't see the play tonight so I can't comment one way of the other. But there is always two perspectives.

Same coach as last year. Does a good job. There was improvement as the boys matured and gained experience. These boys have 2 plus years now of varsity experience. They should be more disciplined and focused. 'Which is the difference in the close games they lost last year and the games they are winning this year.

I think the point is that Ben G. will not be intimidated by anyone on the court or 200 boys in the stands chanting jeers at him. I don't like the whole throwing down thing. Silly in a game of basketball. Play the game and let it do the talking for you and the silencing of the others.

Ben G. is really the only one that is bulky. The rest are average to small in stature. I would think CCH would definitely be taller.

Coach L scouted the Birds against Dixie. I assure you he will have his team ready as Willie will have his team ready. Should be a great game. I have not seen CCH but it is hard for me to imagine that CCH is not bigger all the way around when compared to the Birds. HHS is not that big.

Keep in mind HHS won 3 straight regional championships. I think it was 97, 98 and 99 and then again in 2001. Under Shields and Messmer since 1976 HHS has won 9 regional championships in basketball. Several times beating CCH in the finals and there were several others the Birds lost in the finals. That is one championship every 3 years. I don't know the exact record between the 2 schools but even if CCH is up in the series at least since 1976 the wins that count are the regional championships and to be honest the only ones I can think of are the ones with Andy Listerman and the team with Nesto and Co. Somebody may be able to provide some additional information with regard to CCH's regional championship success in basketball over the last 30 years.

Both teams played hard. If the Birds make their free throws this game is a 22-25 point win for the Birds. They will have difficulty with teams that have a couple of guys that can post up down low. They are playing well and I thought the Eaton kid played well in addition to Ben G. and Vories.

Its not about the teams the other teams have played it is about the teams/schedule HHS played over the last 10-12 years. Granted you must be invited to some of the tournaments to play some of the teams but the beginning of this years schedule is not up to par with years past. Maybe it was a way of building some confidence with this group of seniors.

Tigers could be setting up to make a run in the ALL A.

The Birds aren't bad but can't look past anyone.

I thought Dale was pretty realistic about the team this year. I don't recall the exact quote but it was along the lines that they were young and it would take them awhile but they would compete at the end of the season and make a run at the state championship - their goal every year. They played a tough schedule and got beat by a better team in Lex Cath. However, the next two years you might hear him talk his boys up a little more with the young talent he has returning. By the way if your head coach tells you that you have no chance do you think you are going to work your tail off or are you going to give it a decent effort and say "Well coach says we can't win because we're not real good".

Congratulations to the Knights on a well deserved win. Good luck in your quest for a championship. To the Birds, thanks for playing with class, your dedication and never giving up. For the seniors the best of luck to each of you as you pursue your life dreams.

It is kind of amazing that HHS, NCC and Newport (all within 3 miles of each other) are still in the playoffs. Add in Bellevue which is less than one mile from Newport and 2 to 3 miles from NCC and HHS and that is some talent pool.
