Now that NewCath's future look's bright, will Bob play the Bluebirds??????

First of all, Great season for the Breds. There's no better feeling after all the hard work these kids put out to win a State Championship! I feel that Coach Schneider prepared these kids for this Championship by playing a non-district teams such as CovCath, Ryle and Newport besides having to play a tough district. With HHS only being a few miles away, why wouldn't the Breds play the Birds. The Breds traveled all the way to Pikeville to play this year. It seems like a big loss($$$$) to travel that far. It may be Dale that doesn't want to play but I doubt it since he is willing to play about anybody. I just wish they would play against each other again. It was a better rival than CovCath when we played. It would be a great money game for them also.

Something tells me that Highlands may not be all that happy to schedule NCC in the near future, and VICE VERSA, and it has nothing to do with on-the-field issues.

Remember, Coach Schneider was the NKY representative on the KHSAA's BOC when the KHSAA ruled Mke Mitchell ineligible at HHS in 2004. Apparently, the BOC often will follow the regional representative's opinion in these cases (which Schneider was at the time). So, when the BOC voted not to uphold the KHSAA hearing officer's recommendation to grant Mitchell a waver to play at HHS back in the summer of 2004, the odds are that NCC's Coach Schneider played a HUGE role in Mitchell being declared ineligible.

Given all this, NCC should think twice before agreeing to play HHS in the near future, especially if Schneider is still the coach. I know Dale's been accused of running up scores in the past, but this would be a whole different ballgame... I wouldn't be surprised if HHS on-sides kicked it the entire game!

First, traveling to Pikeville was for the Pike Co. Bowl and NCC will return next year and it is not a $$$ loss.

Second, NCC has the same schedule for next year except most likely Belfry in the Pike Co. Bowl instead of Pikeville. And I believe Highlands has the same schedule with the exception of the Colerain date possibly.

Third, NCC has 6 district games plus the at Newport game that they must play every year. That leaves 3 non district dates all at the begining of the year. Also Gallatin Co will add varsity football in the future and they may bump another team into the NKY district.

Fourth, Highlands district games have varied in number in the past as teams have been moved in and out and that will continue depending upon when Pendelton Co. decides to play a district schedule and if Holmes moves to 3A.

So if you put it all together it might be possible down the road, it might only be possible for single game, or it not be possible at all.

First, how many people will come from Pikeville to Newport?? Second, this game wouldn't have to be played next year (even though I wish it could) They could play HHS instead of Ryle in the future. Bob made a comment in the Enquire how the future looks bright.

None! :D

Is this the Gallatin Cty school that calls off school when the wind blows hard? :D

Thats a lose/lose situation for Ft Thomas. If they win, its because they are a 3A team playing a 1A team and they are supposed to win. The other option is to lose to the smaller team.

Just my non-NKY view. maybe none of my bussiness.

It's like Boyle County not playing Danville........It's a rivalry that needs to be played....Alot of these kids have played with or against each other for years in the FTJFL.......The kids would really love it ..........It's a shame it can't happen.......  When Bob retires I hope it will resume....

GO BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or like CovCath playing Beechwood. Actually I see a big downside risk to NCC. In probably 9 out of 10 years Highlands will win and that's not intended to be an insult to NCC. Highlands is a much larger school. I fully realize that Danville has beaten Boyle regularly at times (although that seems to be changing from what I recall) and Beechwood used to regularly beat CovCath, but that was not the case with Highlands and NCC. The last several games were Highlands blowouts. Bob knows there are alot of catholics in Ft. Thomas who over the years have sent their kids to Highlands. In fact I was one of those kids who went to a catholic grade school but wanted to go to Highlands to play football. If Highlands was to continue to beat NCC badly, then it could increase the chances that the parents who want their kids to play on successful football teams might choose Highlands instead. If they don't play however, then that intangible goes away. Just my very humble opinion on the matter.

Actually the games weren't blowouts for the most part in the first part of the 90s (including the disputed fake FG ending) but did become blowouts in the late 90s but then that was when Highlands was blowing everyone out.

So a game against a 1A school with a losing record for the first time in 25 years wasn't doing Highlands any good then, and they should and did take the opportunity to schedule some marquee games like Elder.

I don't totally buy LN's theory because it is pretty much set in stone from birth if someone is going to NCC in most cases.

The last two games of the series were blow-outs w/ an overtime game and the field goal game in the early 90's. This years game would have been very fun to watch. I'd love to see NewCath play Highlands again. Every kid should get the chance to try and silence the cannon. And I agree, in Ft Thomas, kids grow up rooting for NewCath or Highlands, very few make that decision after grade school.

I wish it could happen, but I know it won't. It would be a really HUGE gate...
