Highlands 64 Dixie 48

Featured Replies

Game was close in the first half with Highlands taking a 31-29 lead into the locker room. Second half started with Dixie scoring the first five points to take a 34-31 lead and then Highlands turned up the pressure to jump in front by double digits. Very good games by Ben G. and Vories. Lawson lit it up in the first half, but had a very difficult time getting open looks in the second. This team is for real despite perceptions by some of a suspect schedule.

Dixie isn't a world beater but a 16 point win is a nice win. One loss against a top 5 squad isn't a bad start.

Congrats to the Birds. I really think they are the darkhorse in the 9th this year.

Both teams played hard. If the Birds make their free throws this game is a 22-25 point win for the Birds. They will have difficulty with teams that have a couple of guys that can post up down low. They are playing well and I thought the Eaton kid played well in addition to Ben G. and Vories.

Looks like Dixie is on a down year. That sad Highlands looks solid.

No surprise to me. I've been very unimpressed with Dixie and Highlands has one of the best if not the best coach in NKY.

Sam Lawson could start for any team in Northern Kentucky, and I haven't seen that many teams in the whole state, but I haven't seen one that he couldn't start for. He creates scoring opportunities for himself and for others, Dixie doesn't have any size, so they have him on the block, someone please explain that to me. Being on the block takes away his shooting threat and his threat to drive. Whenever he was on his way down the floor or just out near the free throw line and caught the ball, he either scored by knocking down a mid-range jumper, drove to the basket and scored, or drew a double team which opened a teammate who he'd get the ball to. Like I said, they had him on the block, so he didn't have many opportunities, and he still tossed out 17 (I think).

I understand he's one of Dixie's bigger players, but he'd be so much more effective out top or on the wings. Dixie would be so much better if they didn't shove him down on the block, he needs to be in a position where he can make stuff happen for himself and for other players.

I agree with this Lawson needs to be running the point or being on the wing where he can launch a few three's.

Lawson should play the two, he can't handle the ball against the top tier PG's in region. Anytime in the Holy Cross Vs Dixie game when he ran pg it seemed a turnover happened.

Agreed, he could make a ton happen from out on the wing, coming off picks, and just cutting a lot

Even if he wasn't launching threes, just have him out front or on the wing where he can hit a mid-range jumper or drive to the basket. I'd definitely have him out on the wing, coming off screens and things, and just making stuff happen on his own. I respect Chev and I like him, don't get me wrong, but Lawson can make things happen for himself and for others if he wasn't on the block.

Hopefully he'll change his mind and get Lawson off the block, and this isn't any of us coaching for him or saying he can't coach, it's just logic, and I understand that Lawson's one of the biggest kids, but he's doing absolutely no good being on the block

I predicted Highlands would win by 15+. Not a bad guess.

Passer probably hasn't regained consciousness, but Henry and I watched the Birds beat Dixie by approx 18 or so last night. Guidugli had a big first half and Vories had a big second half. All the Highlands kids played well and with a lot of hustle. Pretty physical game. Game was pretty close until the middle of the third period, when the Birds came up with about 3 straight steals. Dixie has a nice ball club and they hustle their tails off, but Highlands also played hard and prevailed. Question: do the kids slip as much on other gym floors as they do at Highlands or is Highlands floor slippery? Does it have anything to do with the excessive heat in Highlands gym? If so, they have to find a way to better ventilate that place. Anyway, congrats Birds.

Not ventilate: DETONATE!

Pretty physical game.

Lets see. A team coached by Willie with Ben G as its enforcer played a physical game? Yeah, I can see that.

Common problem at most gyms when there is an unusually warm day/evening especially if the floor is fairly close to the doors. I was at the NC-Conner game a few years ago when they had to cancel the game after one play into the 2nd half for the same reason.

How much did Willie and Jamie pay you to say that?
