What is the 9th Region record for scoring differential?
Whole schedule avg margin of victory is 33.2 ppg, which is pretty remarkable too.

Covington Catholic 104 St. Joseph's College (AU-QLD) 48
I appreciate having this game on the schedule, but not necessarily surrounding the on court gameplay. 3 different interactions I observed just let's you know the level of character these young men displayed. 1) During CovCath’s traditional half court shots from half court. They included a player from St. Joes in this activity. 2) The Crazies splitting up into two different groups and each group supporting the home and away teams. This was done a couple years ago and just cool to see it again. 3) Both teams breaking bread after the game and getting to know each other. I believe CovCath passed out t-shirts to the St. Joes players.

Given the circumstances, only 7 seconds left in the game being only 7 yards yards away. I like my chances playing man coverage where at least I’m in better position to bump or push him vs. being in zone and getting a free release. That would have been a very tough throw for Rio to make. At the end of the the day Tayden made a great catch.

I would have never been in a zone defense in this situation. I would have called man to man. My whole point being Tayden was aloud to release the line of scrimmage cleanly. Wouldn’t happen in man to man. Now since they decided to play zone, the LB can’t allow a clean release in this situation either. Gotta get some type of bump. This at the very least gives the safety time to roll to the coverage. I would think the safeties where told don’t allow any one to get behind you. Zone was the worse defense to be in for this situation

1. At the end of the day the throws have to be within a catchable radius. A WR can have separation and the ball be under or over thrown. 2. Playing zone on that last TD play was inexcusable. Tayden got a clean release from the line of scrimmage. No bump, no push, nothing. So being in zone didn’t get the safety enough time to roll into the coverage. Good contract was made with the hit. Tayden made a great catch! The kid had already scored 3 TDs so everyone in the stadium knew where the ball was going except for the CovCath defensive coordinator.

The thing about a personal foul call is it’s a judgment call. That was one of those quick bang plays and based on the official’s judgement to make a call or not. Seeing it live I didn’t think it was a personal foul. Was it a hard hit, yes, but a personal foul NO. The hit was made inbounds and the contact was in the chest area. It doesn’t appear that there wasn’t any contact made to the head or neck area. After seeing the video and picture I still don’t think it was a personal foul. Those extra 15 yards was huge in getting Highlands closer to scoring the TD on the final drive.

It wasn’t specified as either of those, the ref just called a personal foul

This is why I appreciate what the contributors to BGP do! It seems like they are in the trenches with the Kentucky teams across the state and have genuine input into their rankings. Job well done!!!!

Covington Catholic at Simon Kenton Predictions/Updates
It’s very hard any WR to catch the ball if you don’t get targeted. Bradshaw not targeted until the 4th quarter despite being open on several plays. Cash was 11/16 this game. 1 was the last drive interception. 1 was a dropped pass. The other 3 were not the best passes but I will say Cash was under pressure. For the passing game to work, the oline has to block, the QB has to make the throw, the receiver has to make the catch. Since CovCath has so great of a running attack the run game can easily be used to setup the pass. Play action, RPO, etc. Gotta use your personnel better.

Elder (OH) 28 Covington Catholic 20
Gotta say you’re wrong on this one. Bradshaw had his man/zone beat several times but the play call wasn’t designed to go to him. Not only 0 targets in the first 3 quarters but didn’t even look his way. Must get him involved earlier. At his height and jumping ability even if CovCath throws a 50/50 ball he’s gonna win those most of the time. Need to take advantage of mismatches!!!!

Wow, gotta love class 4A football. There are some really good teams. It’s going to be very interesting to see how RPI comes into play and set the second half of the playoffs!!!! But I’ll just enjoy the regular season first!

It’s their mouthpiece. Since most kids don’t use a strap these days. Best way to keep it without having it in their mouth I guess.

3 of 4 top CovCath tacklers were guys in the secondary. Whatever side Elders QB roll to they did a great job blocking the edge. The flat was open 10+ yards in most cases. CovCath has to look for Bradshaw more downfield. Didn’t get targeted until the 4th quarter. Cash made some really nice throws tonight! Not being able to punched it in for those two TDs (got the FGs instead) was the huge difference. Get those TDS then the ballgame would have been at least tied 28-28. Elder had 1 turnover on downs and missed the FG in the 4th quarter. CovCath only had the INT in the 4 quarter on their last drive. Once CovCath makes a few more adjustments they have a very good chance to go deep into the 4A playoffs.

Ryle 26 Covington Catholic 20
Ryle’s Oline did an excellent job of zone blocking so Ryle’s running backs were just stringing along to the left or right and hit the first opening that they seen. Easily gaining 3 to 4 before getting touched.
