Final per the update thread.

Nice job Cougars and Coach Rash.

Congrats to the Cougars who are improving each week. Thanks to Coach Rash for stepping in to replace Coach Trosper, and congrats on your first win for another animal!!

The Cougars looked good tonight  Congrats coach Rash!   But not so much for the Breds!  No disrespect to the players or coaching staff,   but most of the time especially on defense the boys are not playing aggressive  their waiting for some one else to come up and make the tackle,  they don’t seem very motivated or maybe it’s the 3-8 read  Defense they play with linebackers 7-8 yards off the ball.  Just can’t seem to stop the power run or the pass but still will not come out of that 3 man front defense!  And I do understand they have a great coaching staff and that’s what they believe in and I respect that!  But IMO just a thought, it might be time to try some different defenses maybe some stunts or some blitzing,  like some gap integrity and put some pressure on the QB and making something happen instead of setting back reading!   Good luck both teams the rest of the year.

If you get beat by 5 TD’s scheme isn’t your biggest problem.

Almost exactly how I saw this one playing out. Thought NCC might scrape up 14 points though. I imagine Montgomery had a big night. Glad to see Conner do what they were suppose to. New Cath will have a nice run coming up soon.

I agree. And I am a big fan of Lickert and Nevels as well as Carlos Gibson who I got to see play alot when he was in high school but I do think there is something off schematically with their defense. Just for starters, everyone on their defense except the tackles line up in a wide receiver stance...??

Dayton and Bellevue are gimme's but Newport concerns me if I am an NCC fan as far as district play.

So your saying that if a team is running power football right down your throat that it’s OK to stay in a 3 man front with the other 8 players reading and reacting?

If NCC doesn't turn the ball over, I know that's a big IF, they will be okay vs Newport. That defense definitely has to do some soul searching fast though. I hate the 3 man front. Reading and reacting vs Newport won't work. You have to blitz them, get penetration and throw the timing off in the back field. If Newport gets to just run free then yeah NCC will be in for a long night. The more I write, yeah NCC may need to be concerned with Newport.

First, congrats to Coach Rash and the Cougars. This week against Simon Kenton is going to be interesting.

Everyone is trashing the NCC 3 man front but one of the best defenses in N. Ky. over the past 10 years is Covington Catholic and they run a 3 man front.

Coach Volker is running a 3 man front at Beechwood.

Do they have the personnel to run that? Currently NewCath doesn’t against bigger teams.

Sorry should have phrased it better. The 3 man front is not working for NCC. Maybe its the execution or the personnel but somethings not gellin. They should survive through districts with it but come the 2nd-3rd round of the playoffs? No.

Plenty of teams are running base 3-man fronts and are able to stop the run. Not to mention that switching fronts means whole new responsibilities, something that isn't easy to do mid-game if you haven't practiced it. And quite frankly, if you don't have the horses to match up, it isn't going to matter what front you run. Which is my point....if you get beat by 5 TD's, it's more your personnel that's the problem, not your scheme.

No disrespect to the coaching staff or the players but I think you might be right!  And that’s more the reason why it’s time to try some different defenses,  maybe a four man front or get your linebackers up in to the game  and blitz and run some stunts!  The defense might be a little more aggressive!   Good luck boys
