? Cov Cath won the JV game comfortably as the entire squad saw action. St. Joeseph's, traveling with a short bench, showed exceptional sportsmanship.

I'm assuming that St. Joseph's College is the name of a high school (or the Aussie equivalent there of) and not an actual college team.

With 2,407 games played over the course of 83 seasons of varsity basketball at Cov Cath, last night's win is tied for the 4th most points scored in a single game and is tied for the 6th highest scoring margin by the team. That's a heckuva lid-lifter.

I believe the Aussie team did a poor job of scheduling.  Should have gone much further down the food chain for the 3 games.

? Thank you for posting those. They bring back some warm, sepia toned memories. Delighted to be reminded that Bishop Brossart was once St. Mary.

One could see a fair amount of 180+ point game box scores from across the Bluegrass in the 60's and 70's - no shot clock or 3 point line needed - just run and gun NBA/ABA style scoring.

Mote Hil's (and Dick Maile's) teams could fill it up. Enjoyed watching home games, particularly when Male and Central came calling, as they could "bring it" too. All of those big wins were balanced out by a handful of tough losses at Freedom Hall at the Sweet 16.

We knew good things were coming from watching Kenton Co CYO youth leagues in the mid 60's. Three future Hall of Famers were putting on a show at Blessed Sacrament, St. Agnes, and St. Pius. Richard Derkson (NKSC), BIil Topmiller (Vandy), and Jim Rippe (Dayton), all Class of '71, all in the 1,000 Point Club. Jim was the best pure shooter to ever play in Park Hills imo. The teams surrounding these guys were superb and capable of scoring too.

Regarding last night, I think St. Joseph's has a solid team with some very skilled players. But they travelled with a small squad and Cov Cath's defense and depth had a lot to do with this outcome.

The future "Old Boys of Gregory Terrace" carried themselves well; classic sportsmanship on display. Commendable to challenge themselves this week, thousands of miles from home during their off-season.

I was there last night and I would argue the Colonels second 5 off the bench of Geiser, Meyer, Courtney, Brecount and Bode would be the beat almost all if not all the teams in the 9th region….I would love to see the scrimmages in practice…..the athleticism of this squad cannot be matched…..wow
