Good to see Dixie find their footing in the run game. They need to protect the ball a bit better though. Defense is really good and was all over the place, only score they gave up was on a busted play, on the first drive. Forced a couple turnovers as well. No major penalties tonight, and in a game with stoppage after stoppage, Dixie kept their foot on the gas. I hope the Hughes kid that went out in the ambulance is ok. Always scary when they bring out the stretcher. Congrats to Coach Burke and Co. Big test Over the next two weeks.

I don't mind the heckling as much. If it gets off color and they start getting personal that's a different story. But I think the premise is the unsupervised kids running around common areas, vandalizing, fighting, and being generally disorderly. It's like the wish version of high school musical. I watched two coaches from Dixie try to chase off a crowd of Highlands middle school kids last season hovering around the entrance to where they get ready talking trash to players. Redhawk I think it is fair to mention Dixie in the context you did. The businesses around there just add to the loitering in the area. Dixie has so many events there that it is easy to have seen an incident or two.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older but the Middle School Kids are just awful lately. They swarm to any drama, are obnoxiously loud, and heaven forbid you ask them to watch their mouth around younger more impressional kids. Heaven forbid they make it down to the sidelines. Tossing footballs, talking trash to the other teams. I know some schools may take a hit with their gate money, but this is a welcome and needed change (for now). And despite some calling schools out by name on here, it happens at almost every school, on every Friday night. And at most basketball games.

I like Woodford's chances to bounce back here. I'd say if they can't beat SK they shouldn't be in the top 10. SK should have lost by two or more scores if not for a 2nd half implosion of discipline via penalties by their last week opponent.

While the Camels by all accounts have gotten better and it is nice to see/hear, Beechwood is still a really good team. I hope the Camels continue to trend upward, but this game is Beechwood's to win 28-17.

My only swap would be CovCath for Highlands. But that will be sorted out soon enough. I think Ryle is better than SK but they aren't in the win column yet so I can't swap them. Lloyd may be overrated but honestly recent history says they deserve to be there till they don't. For once I am pretty ok with what they have here.

I am a Dixie fan. Low hanging fruit is to point at the number of penalties they had right or wrong. Burke was visibly upset after this game on the field ripping them a new one. This is a great first step you never really saw before he got there. He is nipping it in the butt right away. I have faith that those will get cleaned up and addressed. I didn’t see a lot of Dixie hype before this season. I saw talk about them being better and having a lot of talent. After last season that’s a low bar. But they weren’t wrong. They had the better athletes on the field, just not the most disciplined. I’d be celebrating being up at halftime on the road against a good team that put 66 on me the season before too. The defense gives you five turnovers and your offense gifts the other team short fields and a football field and a half of penalties. They have to get better on that side of the ball. If I am SK I am thrilled I got some production from my young players. But the fact still remains Dixie had them on the ropes, then beat themselves. SK has some glaring issues. This is two weeks in a row they struggled at times to move the ball (first half) and had turnover issues. Their defense found their footing in the second half but needed help from penalties by Dixie. No real passing game to speak of until the Lee kid entered the game. I would not have wanted to be in film this morning in either locker room. Good weekend for SK and their program, lots to work out over at Dixie.

Really good complimentary football here. The Offensive keeps the ball out of your hands with long sustained drives with scores. The defense gives the offense the ball right back. Rinse and repeat. I'm sure NCC watching the time tick away was slow and painful.

My red Colonel lens is interested in seeing the Dixie Frosh squad. Not a lot of talk about them, but how soon we forget that they (Turkeyfoot) just played Highlands for a middle school championship. And credit to Coach Burke and Co. I don't think think any of that team transferred out to other schools or Ohio which seemed to be a trend. Finally starting to see the benefits of their Dixie Youth program starting to filter up to the High School level. They will be competitive and I expect a few close games with the tougher competition.

Great game to start the season for both. I think this game says more about SK than Dixie. Does SK have a lack of depth now that they lost so many seniors? Can the two standout lineman carry a team for a whole game when they play both sides? For Dixie the questions on the O-line are fair I think. All around size of the linemen on both sides of the ball may be an issue. However, they now have a D1 commit at linebacker (Rice), and D1/D2 prospects at safety (Rodriguez, Neal), and corner (Mwamba). No question Dixie will be more athletic than last season. Can they protect and block for all of the athletes they have is the biggest question mark. Last year SK put 60 plus points on a team they didn’t have too. No way this game hasn’t been circled since it went final last fall. I say Dixie 28 SK 21.

I may be on my own here, but I kind of like those old goal posts. I would have loved to see them recycle those or incorporate them in the new build.

Talked to my son when they got back from the scrimmage. All he would say is that it went well and everyone was healthy. A couple players have posted some highlights in the last couple days. They have almost exclusively 7v7’d and done scrimmages with Ohio teams and done well from what I have heard and seen. Overheard one parent saying he (Burke) finally listened to us and is playing kids both ways. I respectfully disagreed and said, he has his first year under his belt and has a better idea of what he is working with now. I kind of like that not much is being said/known out there in Edgewood right now.

The social media pictures had them both at guard for this evenings scrimmage. And, playing both ways getting Dline reps.

Hearing the starters for SK didn't fair so well this evening. Came out flat. Anyone see this scrimmage first hand? Quoting the message I got "Good news for SK is that they have two huge offensive guards (Selm/Putthoff). The bad news is there are 9 other spots on offense to fill and they don't stand out like they did last year."

I think most in the Dixie circle would tell you that it was addition by subtraction. If memory serves, he was the kid fighting his teammates on the sideline. Then to get a better WR in his place was a good bit of luck.

From what I hear Dixie had five selected but not sure how many of them will actually play. Three of the five have a college coach to answer to now. One running back and the rest were O/D lineman. I am not sure of the names but I believe two of the Gregg boys will be in it.

I like this take… here is mine. Wins: Hughes, Boone, Connor, Scott Toss Up: Cooper (historically close one-two score games) They could be competitive in 2 of the other 5 but it would be a stretch to say they win any of them at this point.

Ohio is a great football state no doubt. Kids are not necessarily better though, there are just more to choose from… to include the ones coming from other states. More opportunity to play D1 football in OH as well. There are some amazing coaches on the KY side of the river who would and have done an amazing job with less support than some get on the Ohio side too.

All my son tells me is that it was not the head TF coach. Possibly a coordinator? I do know a couple of those coaches have freshman at Dixie for next year. This is good news, I'm going in to my fourth year as a Dixie FB parent and in that timeframe there has not been a dedicated Frosh coach.

There was a lot of bad in 2022 for Pat Burkes first year at the helm for the red Colonels last year. The inability of their offense in most games to generate anything resulted in their defense being on the field… a lot. Discipline issues were evident with some of their best players fighting each other on the sidelines during games, and costly penalties at the worst possible moments in games. Most of us chocked it up to a whole new staff, new systems on both sides of the ball, and being a younger team. They showed flashes, but the schedule they played was brutal, having had to play most of NKY ‘s best in back to back to back weeks. Via social media it looks like they have added to their defensive staff which was a need. Brought up a Turkeyfoot coach who was with the 8th grade runner ups, and Coach Mobley from Hughes HS (Cincinnati) will be a good addition. You’d think after a season like that kids would be flocking to Beechwood and CovCath, but all indications are the numbers are still good… right now. Most of their best athletes are back this season. Senior Trey Barnett, and Junior Armani Gregg on offense, and Seniors Brach Rice, Beni Mwamba and Miguel Rodriguez are three D1 prospects on defense. Good news, they moved to down to 5A. Bad news, it’s in a district with Highlands. Still a rough schedule but the way it is set up is a bit more favorable than last year. I say 4-5 wins are possible here. My opinion is Highlands comes out of this district in first and Dixie/Cooper fight it out for second.

One name that has been under the radar, but checks a lot of boxes is Dave Brossart. I’m not sure if he has any interest in being a head coach again, but just a name I hadn’t seen yet. Thoughts?

Really good schedule here for the Raiders. This team is a good one to keep an eye on over the next year or two. They have some players, young talent, and the coaching is there. If they have a shot to be a final four team in 6A, they may be in their window over that span. Good schedule to test my opinion.

Temperature in the 30's for Friday... going to be a cold one on grass. Most of us old timers know what stiff grass and frozen mud feels like. Going to be a good one. I think Lloyd has the better running game, and an O-coordinator who knows how to move the sticks and keep your offense off the field. Defensively they can do enough. Lloyd in a close one 26-17

The big schools in Louisville can attract and/or facilitate getting some of the best talent in the region (KY/IN/OH). The rest of the big schools in the state will get the kids they get, play their schedule and hope to be competitive from time to time. There is simply no way to compete with the depth of these super squads.

The O tackles Ballard saw last Friday that gave up the majority of sacks are not what they will get this Friday. Ballard is fast... very fast and their D was good. Special teams or turnovers may decide this one. Ballard I think has the inside track with a turnover prone Verax at QB and how good they are defensively. If Verax has time it could be an interesting game though.
