Congrats to the Juggs on another win. They are having a great season. Coach Brossart was a great hire for O-coordinator out there.

Wow. I did not see this coming at all. Huge win for CCH so congrats to them, and I feel sorry for whoever gets the upset version of BW next week.

I hope the CCH faithful aren’t looking at last week’s victory against an undisciplined and young Dixie squad and thinking their ills are healed. They struggled at times to run the ball which is a trend with this team, were in 4th down situations quite a bit, and at times aided by some questionable officiating. I think CCH is good, they are CCH after all, but if they cannot keep the BW offense off the field this game is doomed to be a blowout. Beechwood has a good defense that will get their offense the ball back quick and if they know you are one dimensional it will be exploited. I think CCH has an amazing passing attack and can hang for a minute, but not for a game. I think the Blue Colonels are seeing red after this one. 30-17

Like last year, their numbers aren't quite to where they need to be. Looked good this summer but numbers did dwindle a bit. I have seen this grieved status more than once about sophomores playing in a Freshman game. A lot of teams do it, the opposing coach has to agree to it, and for Dixie specifically it's not like they are running anyone over when they do. No opposing coach would allow a stud Sophomore to dress if they know it will tilt the competitive advantage. I do think though that if you know you will have a froshmore team, you should play more teams that traditionally play that type of kid. Example, if CovCath has a true freshman squad, don't schedule them, ask a 4a or 5a team that has sophomores that need work.

So the latest on the Dixie Freshman QB is he is out for the season (shoulder). They hope to get their JV QB (foot/ankle?) back in the next week or two. They have been playing an emergency Soph kid at QB for both levels. Lost both of them in the same game, same quarter at Cooper JV game.

There is a seven player advantage on total number of players sure. But CovCath enjoys a roster with a lot less Sophomores and freshman 35 to 25. I’m sure if you have seen the JV squad Dixie is putting out there you’d be like “oh” that’s why they didn’t have a lot of subs. The point being, is that you’ve mentioned a couple of times back ups versus starters as if that gave Dixie some type of advantage. Like they were going to run off 40 plus because CovCath swapped a senior for a junior.

This isn’t entirely accurate. Dixie did substitute a few on defense. It’s important to note they are a young team and there isn’t much depth yet. Looking at the offensive stat line you posted any remaining defensive starters left in you could have stuck a fork in because they were done. The last fumble was caused by a Dixie junior, on a CovCath #27 junior. 6A or not, subtle digs at starters vs non starters is a bit unfair to those who may not have the luxury of depth a school like CovCath enjoys every year.

Dixie struggles offensively again. Defensively were in some good situations, and again can't get off the field with stupid penalties. This is now a trend with this team. Their bye week could not have come at a better time.

Will this game be streamed by either school?

I’ll start with my objective opinion. In short CovCath wins. CovCath has seen better competition. They seem due for a big one. Plus, history is on their side for sure. CovCath has the best defense Dixie will have seen so far, and the Red Colonels offense has struggled early in games. CovCath may not be the superior team we have known in years past, but they have found a way to win these last two weeks against two good teams. This Dixie team is a head scratcher. I think some of the opponent stats are a bit wrong/misleading. My red colored opinion for Dixie is after only one padded scrimmage in the pre-season, they fought for a comeback win in an emotional home opener against their old head coach. Were one yard away from beating Cooper after spotting them a 28-7 lead, and dominated on defense, the run game, and special teams against Connor. Their running game has struggled early but been consistent and they have shown every week they will bust a 30 yard plus run. Dixies offense is getting better every week, and their defense despite the injuries and missing pieces have done very well. You can point to the yards Dixies defense has given up, but when their offense struggles, they are on the field a lot and bend but don’t break. CovCath’s leading rusher is their QB, that’s not ideal, and although they always have good players, only one WR stands out. Credit Burke and staff that have made the adjustments that keep their team in position to win it. They have seen adversity in all three of their games and haven’t flinched. Feels like it is a bigger game for Dixie and for Burke, and just another road game for the Blue Colonels. Homecoming at Dixie this week could lead to a lot of broken blue hearts I believe. 28-21 Dixie wins it.

I can confirm they were a section over from me at the Connor/Dixie game last night.

I think the Royals are a team to keep an eye on in 3A. Pretty good squad and have been putting up decent points every week. They continue to get better and better every year. They are building quite a team out in Mason County.

I got to this one late, but coach Burke is probably going to eat his hat if his offense doesn't get out of their own way early in games. They ran the ball at will up the middle for the majority of the game. Probably their offensive lines best game so far as a unit. RB Hinkle is emerging as a pretty good back. The interception and fumble bothnled to Connors only scores on a shorter field. Dixies WR Barnett is good, but has a bad case of the drops. Sophomore QB Armani Gregg has three huge runs in each of his games now, that kid is a heck of an athlete. Dixies defense is quite good, despite the injuries and missing pieces. Two blocked punts (one for a TD), a pick 6, and a lot of QB pressure from the D line. One thing Dixie needs to absolutely clean up is stupid penalties on the defensive side if they expect to have a chance this week against Covcath. In the first half Connor was able to move the chains on the ground and their RB and QB combo are really sound in their system.

I love this win for Holmes.

If SK does pull out the win here, and I think they will, I would put them as a legit top ten. I think SK's defense is suspect but their offense has more than enough horses to run with anyone, and enough size to control the clock. There will be a playoff atmosphere in Independence this evening.

Preach! That is a really good football player. He is involved in, or influencing a lot on defense.

You have to give to him, he bleeds SK blue. I tend to agree 6A is down in NKY this year and SK will most likely benefit from that. I think they are much improved but it’s not like SK didn’t already have a good offense. And their line was big last year too. I think they are potentially a top ten from a small sample size, but they still have to get through their own district and we know Ryle and Dixie are not going to roll over. Those are always tough physical games by teams that are well coached. Not to leave out the Campbell County squad, I just don’t know much about them.

I think having Cooper at 3 is a stretch. If they hung on to win against an injured and young Dixie team, they are not beating Highlands or CovCath most likely. 1. Beechwood 2. Simon Kenton 3. Highlands 4. CovCath 5. Cooper

I think Ryle takes this one 21-14. Depending on how Cooper is injury wise coming out of a physical game Friday, and they face a more established offense this week.

The JV QB was getting his ankle looked at, and the Freshman was a shoulder (throwing) issue. Unsure how long they may be out, if at all.

Dixie lost both their JV and freshman QB in this game two minutes into the second quarter. A former lineman came in to run a wildcat of sorts and Dixie was still in position to win this game before Dixie put in freshman. Cooper scored twice late on the freshman with a short field to put it out of reach. Missed tackles hurt the Colonels in this game on defense.

I'm not sure they were going to be a threat anyway. Got a few veteran players but still young. They are still down a linebacker and the injury bug hurt Dixie this past week. Hurt them in this game for sure. Looking ahead I think they beat Conner, then they have a gauntlet to navigate through before their next winnable games (Campbell and Scott). Possibly they surprise Ryle but they aint beating BW, HHS, or SK this season. Love the fight in this team, just a year or so away from a legit "threat".

I did not see this score happening I will admit. Really fun game to watch. And surprisingly very physical. Outside of one contest in recent memory, this game has been closely contested over the past few seasons. I hope they continue to play each other. For Dixie: Credit Dixie for absolutely clawing their way back into a game they seemed to be out of early. Lots of mistakes in the first half by the Dixie defense but again, on the field way too long because the offensive struggles continued. The second half the offense got rolling. That wildcat look with Brach Rice was a nice touch that led to a score. Couple players emerged as absolute studs for Dixie. Everyone knows Brach Rice is a beast, Armani Greg is going to be a really good QB, the kicker was three yards deep in the end zone on all of his kicks but one I believe, and receiver Trey Barnette had some really good catches at key moments. When they go tempo, they are really good. For a young team to have a chance to win and literally go down to the last play, took grit. Good game to learn from. For Cooper: They got worn down but were able to eek out those extra yards when they needed too and kept the chains moving. Lonaker is a really good linebacker/player. The flag for helmet to helmet wasn’t a dirty play like some Dixie parents were yelling, he was just playing football and hit the wrong spot. Alexander isn’t as big as they say…yet, but he is still a very good player. They also have a young QB who is poised and made some good throws tonight. It’s early but I think Cooper is going to be dangerous once they figure it out defensively.
