Congratulations to Coach Hahn on his first win!

I did not realize a coach who was on staff last year with a son playing left. And taking into account the player who quit. With that said there are 6 dads of current players on staff. The part that worries me the most is the idea that your son becomes a HHS player and suddenly you’re a coach. Bad precedent to set and clearly isn’t working.

There are 7-8 dads of current players in the program on staff. As to whether or not they coach their son’s position, I honestly can’t say to that as I don’t know for sure and I don’t want to put forth false information. I was the one on here months ago that expressed concern over the trend of dads being on staff and was concerned about the sheer number of dads on staff. I was basically told I didn’t know what I was talking about by multiple posters. The point is that no matter how much you try to put any bias aside, it is hard to not fight for your son and want him to play over someone who is not your son.

All of the HHS home games are broadcasted through the Highlands YouTube page. When a link is live later this week I will post it but you should be able to just search on YouTube for Highlands Film and Broadcasting. They traditionally do a really good job and the operation is 100% student led. I believe the announcer for games this year is Jonah Listerman; daughter of Coach Listerman.

Well, saying that was a disappointment is an understatement. Going into this game I did not expect HHS to dominate and thought the game was a tossup. But I certainly DID expect them to play physical, with passion, and execute - like a well coached team should. None of which happened; instead they got abused in all three phases of the game and honestly looked like they didn’t belong on the same field as SW. There is WAY too much talent on the HHS sideline to have a running clock put on them. Again, not saying they should have beat SW but it is totally unacceptable to get outright dominated and most importantly for HHS to look completely ill prepared for the game. Highlands and the Ft. Thomas community have invested A LOT of resources in Coach Sphire. Hopefully, this is a hiccup to start the season and going forward that investment starts to pay dividends because a lot of what we saw last night did not look like a team that was being put in the best position to be competitive. BEAT PIONEERS!

Congratulations to Coach Bathiany! The 1st of what I predict to be a lot of wins in his coaching career. Really physical game on both sides of the ball. I was especially impressed with 24 and 16 for LC. The hit on 16 at the end of the game was tough to watch. Both OLs are fun to watch as well. Lot of beef up front for both teams. The young Savage for Ryle (can you get a better name for a football player?) is going to be fun to watch the next 4 years. Number 1 for Lex Cath is going to make a lot of DCs rethink some things each week. PrepSpin did a great job, as usual, broadcasting the game.

To my knowledge, no. Coverage teams needed a lot of work last year. I hope to see that improved this year. I am confident that it will be but just something to look for on Friday.

One thing that I forgot to include in the preview was the major question surrounding special teams for the Birds this year and early this preseason. It will be interesting to see if those issues are ironed out and what, if any, role they play against SW and beyond.

Plain Lays are drastically underrated IMO.

I remember that. Some great games between the two. Ryle has never backed down from good competition. That was back when Coach Mueller couldn't get anyone, especially NKY teams, to play. I was just curious if any other programs around the state scrimmaged and played each other.

The Birds play Ryle this year too. Are there any other pairs around the state scrimmaging that will play each other during the regular season? I actually love the idea... creates a little tension early haha.

I’ve never heard The Fort referenced as the 75. I like that. Might need to borrow it.

I am hearing that this could be a reference to a "new look" for the Birds.

I go back and forth on youth football. Part of me thinks that it is great for kids to be playing together as a class from a young age; that chemistry and the idea of playing for the guy next to you means a lot. However, on the other hand, I worry that there is potential for players, at a young age, to opt out of playing football because they may not be as physically developed as others and that can prevent some "late bloomers" from playing football. What have you seen?

Agreed. Phenomenal group of young men. Incredibly hardworking group that have put the work in. Excited to see what they can do when they strap it up on Friday nights.

I understand what you are saying. That is tough. However, no matter what situation you have, you are always going to have parents/fans/etc. saying things against the program no matter how much success they have. Heck, I played for Coach Mueller and I legitimately know of people who thought he should "move on" because they didn't like the offense he ran... the reason? It didn't showcase their son. Coach Barth is going to have to face that type of PR stuff and overcome it.

Thanks for the information. I hope EKU runs their 1v1 period better than some of the stuff I see on social media. It drives me crazy when coaches hype of a video of an O-lineman hip-tossing a D-lineman with horrible form and acting like it is some dominating move. Sorry, soapbox moment there.
