Does the “farm system” (such as Highlands, they have their own youth league) work these days? If I am not mistaken Beechwood’s youth plays in the NKYFL and they have been pretty successful the last few years. Playing big names in high classes.

IMO, if you have the #'s to have your own "league" and it's well organized, then I don't see how it couldn't work! 

While at the Union Raiders, we formed 2 teams when we had the #'s. Played in NKYFL with both. Worked out well too.

Speaking of Union Raiders most football teams just started practicing but I was in disbelief to see a Union Raider team practicing last west at a baseball field on Camp Ernst already in helmets and shoulder pads. Thought they had to have 5 practices before they could do that?

You should call the football police on them. 
 

All joking aside, was it a whole team w/ coaches or a few kids trying out their new gear?

Looked like an entire team with at least 3 coaches.

They aren't a school based team. They are a private organization. The KHSAA has no oversight over private organizations.

NKYFL has league rules. That require teams practice 5 days before pads and helmets.

Next time snap a picture. I spoke w/ all the coaches and nobody knows anything about this. Not saying it didn’t happened, but organizations can’t stop parents and kids from gathering at parks. 
 

Also, Camp Ernst is in Conner’s district. You sure it wasn’t one of their programs?

It was at Boone County Knothole Complex and they had black helmets on.

Hmm..not sure why Union Raider coaches would plan an offseason practice in the middle of Cooper’s district and on a baseball field nonetheless.

It might have been the NKY United football team? Just thought it was a little early for pads and helmets. 

I think it works when all three levels are bought in.

Mayfield plays in a league with McCracken County and Paducah Tilghman. Murray, Calloway Co. and Marshall Co. decided not to play in the league with us this year. 

IMO it helps the Cardinals because those boys play together until they graduate. They don't have to get together in middle school and play as a team after years of playing against each other in Little League.

I go back and forth on youth football. Part of me thinks that it is great for kids to be playing together as a class from a young age; that chemistry and the idea of playing for the guy next to you means a lot. However, on the other hand, I worry that there is potential for players, at a young age, to opt out of playing football because they may not be as physically developed as others and that can prevent some "late bloomers" from playing football. What have you seen?

Per Parks Department, Union Jags will be practicing on the old complex field, they might have been getting acclimated with helmets and shoulder pads by then.
