The 2026 calendar has been sent out to all parents (includes from June until December with dates, practice times, 7V7, games, etc.). It appears CAL will not be going to Hoover this year but will instead go to Ironton for their 7v7 tournament. CAL will travel the day before and head over to Huntington HS in WV for some 7v7 work. Other than that, it appears their 7v7 schedule is the pretty much identical to last year. Spring practice will start for CAL in May and I can't wait to get that rolling.

I wouldn't think so either, but sometimes what we're sold as individuals doesn't end up being what things really are. I agree that recruiting HS guys is the hardest it's ever been. With the landscape of college football, coaches have to have kids that are ready to play now. They don't have time to develop them for a year or two, only to lose them to the portal. To give an example, my son plays for East Texas A&M. He just transferred there from EIU. I was listening to a recent ETA&M athletics podcast where their head coach was a guest. He talks about how the college landscape has changed. He said that just 3 years ago, they signed 24 HS kids. They just brought in over 30 new, full scholarship kids this spring (over 50 if you include some walk-ons and partial scholarship guys) and only 3 of them were HS kids so from 3 years ago bringing in 24 HS kids to now bringing in 3. If this turns out to be legit, and I truly hope it is, then this is a great alternative and opportunity for those HS kids that are getting squeezed out. For those interested, I've attached the recent podcast I was referencing. Head Football Coach Clint Dolezel is the guest for about the first 12 1/2 minutes. At the 3-minute mark, he talks about JUCO. At the 5-minute mark, he talks about the "new model" of college football. I really like Coach Dolezel as he's just brutally honest about the landscape of college football.

So many unanswered questions honestly. It says kids have chances to get accredited hours and work towards an " academic pathway" towards a 4-year university but doesn't say from where the credit hours are coming from. It says it's covering all of these states, but when you hover over some of the states, it says "team names to be announced". Who is the governing body? How does this affect eligibility as in do any of these seasons count towards NCAA eligibility or is this going to be treated like a post-secondary school like a Hargrave Military? I hope for the high school kids of Kentucky, this turns out to be a fantastic opportunity for them, but I'm always skeptical when new things such as this pop up that seem to have so many unknowns. Just my opinion.

Good start to camp season for DT Sebastian Blue

He was one of my favorite opposing players to watch in Kentucky over the last 20 years. Best LB in Kentucky last year & not only will he have a major impact on Saturday games in short order, but as long as he stays healthy, he has serious Sunday potential in the future.

I think you all will be just fine ?. I view last year as an anomaly. Owensboro & CAL have always had tight games with the exception of last year & I think this year it’ll be right back to that one possession game the teams typically play. I will say that I hope the 2 teams continue their series after this year, but that might not be the case, unless they moved the game to a different week. CAL was looking for a week 2 & week 11 opponent for 27 & 28 as recent as last week ?‍♂️

Two of CAL’s kickers play soccer. It doesn’t seem to be an issue. I’ve seen other kids miss Saturday morning film due to game day visits, training sessions in other sports, etc. Again it doesn’t seem to be an issue. We had multiple JV games this year where we didn’t have a kicker because they had a soccer game. I will say the AD & coaches at CAL are really good at understanding that at a smaller school, you often have to share athletes, so they find a way to make it work.

CAL is pretty good about kids being allowed to participate, to some degree, in spring ball while playing another spring sport. We literally have kids in baseball, track, lacrosse & tennis who all participate in spring ball and even spring lifting for football. Spring sport games take priority, but other than that, they split time fairly regularly.

It will most certainly change. I think you'll see LCA stay on the schedule since they'll probably be moving up a class as well. Hopefully BG stays on the schedule and possibly Ryle although I don't think Ryle will be nearly as good as they have been in the last couple of years. I would like to see them replace Central Hardin & Fern Creek on the schedule for sure. I know Coach Cantwell put it on Listserv that CAL is looking for opponents in the 2027-28 cycle. We'll see who potentially steps up.

There’s a lot of young talent on CAL’s roster. They do have 5 seniors (2 don’t play much), but the rest of the varsity roster consists of 8 sophomores & 2 8th graders.

Fern Creek is filled. They went with an internal hire and alum, Justin Nichols.

He often times would play 1 or 2 series in the 2nd half of games and that was it. The only 2 non-running clock games in which Ja'Hyde played a full game, he went for 8 / 153 & 1 KO return TD against Ryle, then went for 15 / 175 and 3 receiving TDs vs. Bowling Green. And he just committed on national TV at the All-American bowl what will be the defending college national champions next year with IU. Plus, if CAL is able to pull off another state title, that will be his 4th state title as well. I would say he deserves to be in the conversation with Driver, Fryman & Johnson.

Honestly, it’s a few complainers we’re trying to appease. The same people we were trying to appease when Kentucky went from 4 classes to 6 classes. Everyone wants a ring. If it were me, I’d want to go through the best to do it, not separate them out to make it easier on me. And I agree that going through all the trouble to separate out 16 teams is ridiculous and if we’re honest, it’s really just 3 or 4 people want separated out….the other 12 or 13 are just collateral damage. Finally, let’s say we did divide it out and did two private divisions with 8 teams each. Is nobody going to talk about how the private schools would lose two games a year due to an 8 team bracket vs 32 team bracket? Do we start their playoffs two weeks later and allow them 12 regular season games?

Hoping the Chargers continue to take steps forward. There’s a lot of talent coming up in the next few years. Talent that could potentially rival the Jr & Sr talent that led them to that 2022 state title.

The stats say that roughly 70% of kids who enter the portal don’t find a home. It’s definitely a huge risk when most kids enter the portal. I’ve been through it as a parent & it’s nerve racking. Happy to say my son was in the 30% who do find a new home (FCS to FCS transfer). Game film is key.
