Add another top honor for Ja’Hyde Brown. Super proud of this young man. It’s wild for me to think that I coached his dad when he was in high school, now my son is teammates with Ja’Hyde & I get to watch him make play after play every Friday night. PS, sorry Julian but Ja’Hyde is much better ?

I’m thinking this CAL team will be their best in the last 5 years, but I admit I’m biased. Don’t be fooled if their first 3 games aren’t running clock games like last year but it won’t be because CAL isn’t better but instead because Pikeville, Owensboro & LCA are better than last year’s teams.

Up to #3 in another national ranking. Looking forward to seeing this 2026 CAL team play.

I believe in the last few years, they have 2 from Woodford Co., 2 from Frederick Douglas & 1 from CAL along with these two. I know they have offered more as well & they’re commitable.

I’ve seen some pretty crazy stipend positions / titles created & added on. When I was coaching at a JCPS HS back a few years, they used to run an after practice activities bus in the area; basically to give athletes a ride home instead of taking TARC. There was head coach in charge of being the coordinator for it & the job paid. There was 1 bus for the school & the same guy ran the route every day, so I’m not sure what was being coordinated but it paid extra none-the-less. ?‍♂️

It's actually not as hard as you might think. You simply give them additional titles that come with additional stipends, but not necessarily more responsibilities, such as assistant strength and conditioning coach, department chair for whatever subject they teach, etc. With the right titles, a HC can earn $10-$15K more if the school is willing to get creative and fork over the money. Just because they would do that at Pulaski, doesn't necessarily mean they would do that at Southwestern. Now if you're simply talking HC stipend for football, then yes, it's has to be the same at all HS in that district as far as I'm aware.

2025 state championship rings are finally in! CAL will have their ring ceremony after their last spring practice this Thursday. Great way to wrap up spring practice.

That’s why I enjoy a sport like wrestling. It’s not subjective or arbitrary when it comes to playing time. You have wrestle offs & the best kid is determined right there. The kid who loses is JV. There’s really not a lot that anyone can complain about.

I have no problem with CAL getting moved to 4A although I completely disagree with the multiplier, especially since KY is an open enrollment state, so like it or not, on paper, all schools are already playing under the same rules / advantages. What I do have a problem with is the fact CAL is now forced to play 5 district games in 4A instead of just 3 district games in 3A & they’re not necessarily any better games. It’s nothing against the new district opponents, but it’s nice to be able to pick your opponents vs being told who to play. How ironic that the multiplier is supposed to essentially make things more fair to appease a handful of complainers, but you actually force 2 more teams to play a school like CAL than before. I have a feeling this will get challenged legally & I like the chances of the private schools if it does.

It's early and it's just spring practice, but I really like the makeup of this coming year's team. Last year's team lost quite a few key players, but I believe this year's team will be better than last year.

That might be the case, but I don't believe I was one of those "posters". Before Coach White arrived at Atherton, when was the last time they were relevant? I believe last year was their 1st time being in the state semi-finals in school history, but feel free to double check me on that one.

I think you can add sophomore Jeremiah Quick and incoming Freshman Mark Stivers to that list. Both have the size and ability for eventual D1 offers.

As far as I'm aware. Obviously, Atherton will miss him, but they're got a few other kids that can play. What Coach White has done there can't be overstated. Coaching stability is huge when it comes to JCPS programs and simply put, most of them don't have it.

Brodie will do well at North Oldham. He is a college level QB talent with the size to go with it as well. He would have started for 85-90% of the high schools in KY last year.
