GC-Dragons

This may be the most wide open class of them all. No one team stands out above the rest of looking unbeatable. If the post season were to start today I would like Bardstown against everyone else. With that said, anyone of these top 10 teams could legitimately win it all this year if they get hot at the right time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bardstown is the best team in 3a right now.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but it seems people are throwing Franklin under the bus, when they have played two really good teams, it isn't like they have played bad teams and taken losses. Ballard is number 4 in 6a and Corbin is as good as anyone in 5A and down. I think FC will be fine, and will get better as the year goes by.

Green county Dominated the First half. It was 28-7 at the half and Taylor couldn't stop the dragon rushing attack. The Dragons ran at will. RB/LB Blake Houchens was almost unstoppable the first half on offense and defense. The kid is an absolute football player. Rb Seymour for Green is a handful, and is only a sophomore. QB Ferguson was also really good in this game, and threw some nice balls and had some really good runs. Kid is a gamer. The dragon offensive line dominated a very good Taylor front 8, and deserve the game ball tonight. Taylor also couldn't move the ball the entire first half and scored on a 60 plus yard TD pass on third and long for the only score of the half. The third quarter started with Green stuffing Taylor and forcing a punt and having good field position. Houchens again busted a long run and it was called back for a holding penalty, another holding penalty and a Dragon fumble on the snap gave Taylor Great field position on the 16 yard line and they were able to punch it in. Taylor recovered an onside kick and again went right to work and scored to make it 28-19. Green was able to cover the next onside kick, and Houchens and Seymour went to work and drove the ball down the field, another two holding calls on Green had pushed the Dragons back to a 4th and 21, and Wr Slinker came up with a big catch and run down to the 2 yard line where the Dragons would eventually punch it in. Taylor started a drive in the fourth quarter but was intercepted in the endzone on a 3rd and long play. The dragons drove down the field again and ran out the clock. Taylor is a good team, but the Dragons were better tonight. Green County is very good, and this might be one of the best teams since the 2007 undefeated team and the 2008 team.

I haven't seen Allen county, but I think Glasgow wins this game. Glasgow has some really good weapons and if they can get some stops on defense, they will be hard to beat.

I have to agree. I don't see Taylor as the number 3 team in class 3a. I also was amazed they have Highlands at number 2 in 5a.

Taylor County travels into Dragon Stadium sitting at 3-0. The cardinals are led on offense by Freshman Rb Peyton Smith, who has been super impressive to begin his high school career. Defensively they have given up some points, but have found ways to win close games. Green county comes in at 2-0 and has played very well the first two games. The Dragons have rushed for over 350 yards each game, and have done so with four guys having over 100 yards a piece on the season. The Dragons defense has played great and will be tested early and often by the explosive offense of Taylor County. The Dragons are very thin, and almost every player is playing both ways, which could be a big issue in this game as it wears on. This hurts to say, but give me Taylor in a nail biter, 35-34. Should be a good game.

Highlands is to high at 4. Owensboro without Wimsatt isn't number 2 anymore IMO. I'd take Graves over Scott County. This class is good top to bottom. Should be a great run of games in the 5a playoffs.

I really am looking forward to the Taylor and Green game. We should learn how good both teams are with this game. Taylor is very good on offense, but has given up some points, so should really get a good look at how far Green has come this year. I also would love to see the LCA and CAL game. Should give us an idea of how good CAL is. I still think Bardstown is the best team in 3a right now, followed very close by Mercer and CAL. Bardstown is very good, and I think they haven't played a complete game yet and still have beat some good teams.

I don't think Somerset is a top ten team. I've watched both games they have played and they aren't a top ten team yet. I'd also like to see how good Middlesboro is, they seem to have a pretty good team. I'm also not sold on Danville being number 4, but I don't know a team I'd have above them at this point. The top 3 of 2a are head and shoulders above everyone else at this point.

Adair should win this one by a decent margin. I'm going to go with 42-14 Adair.

Hart County is a good squad, they have some really good backs and some really big guys on the offensive line. They are going to give people some problems. They will beat Campbellsville and roll into Glasgow sitting at 3-1. I'm not sure they can beat Taylor or Glasgow, but they should be competitive with those guys, and I could see them beating Adair and Casey. I'd have them the favorite against Casey and a toss-up with Adair. Green will have to play a great game to beat Taylor, but I think they could very well do it after seeing the game Taylor played against Rock and this week against Spencer. Green County will be able to move the ball, it will come down to them being able to finish drives and stop Taylors offense. Should give a good gauge about how good Green is.

This is a tough one to call. I feel for the players and fans of the Red Devils, its hard to be ok with the young man leaving a team that has helped develop him and leave life long friends, especially when you have a massive chance to go win a state title with those friends. It would have to feel like a friend abandoned you, even if you understand why he did it. With that said, its hard for me to fault a young man who can go make life changing money, while still getting a free education. It would be hard for me to turn down 100k if it was sitting in front of me and its guaranteed money. That kind of money doesn't come around every day. I wish the young man the best.

Its a final from Hart County. Hart County looked great the first drive and then it was all Green County from that point on. The Dragons look for real, and have four of the best backs you will see on the same team for a small school. The offensive line for the dragons has really done a great job to start the year. Next week we find out how good the dragons are with Taylor rolling into town.

Does anyone else sorta feel like the win for Highlands over BG isn't nearly as impressive and a little inflated with the result BG just had with McCracken County. I just have this feel that BG isn't elite. They very well make reach that spot later in the year, but have been very underwhelming. McCracken County was just beat the week prior by PT and gave up 35 points, while BG only could muster 14 against that same McCracken defense. Did I also mention that the same PT team was just beat by Graves who lost by two touchdowns to Mayfield. I'm just not sold on BG being a huge win as of yet. I guess we shall see.

I can't see how Somerset is ranked. They just didn't look like a top ten team in the scrimmage against Casey County or the game against Lincoln County. I'm also not sold on Owensboro Cath or Murray at number 5. I guess it will all play out in the long run. I'm also not sure who I would put in front of those teams, so I guess it makes sense to a point.

The Dragons (1-0) travel to Hart County (2-0) Friday night in what should be a very competitive game. The Dragons will be led by a very balanced rushing attack that amassed over 400 yards rushing against Nelson County last week. The dragons defense also played very well in not giving up a single score. Expect big games from Seymour, Houchens, and Mckinney rushing the football. Hart County has two nice wins to begin the year, and have been a very balanced attack with QB Walters throwing the ball very efficiently. The rushing attack will be led by Jordan Bradley and Dustin Butler. Hart County has also played very well on defense and appears to be playing some very good football at the moment. Give me the Dragons in this one. 34-28

I may change my mind later today with how this Mercer county game with Station turns out, but I believe Bardstown has the best two wins in 3A at the moment and everyone else in 3a above them has looked pretty ugly to start the year.

I honestly think Bardstown is the best team in 3A right now. This score just makes me believe that more. Congrats to Bardstown and John on what seems to have been a great game.

Green County is still a pretty young team. The dragons started tons of sophomores and freshman last year, that is going to pay off this year. Houchens, Seymour and McKinney are going to be as good as any backfield around the area. Add in Ferguson at Qb and you have a pretty good stable of backs. Offensive line is much improved, the Dragons started three freshman on offensive line last year I believe and had two seniors added onto the line this year. I expect the dragons to score points. This game was a great first game for Coach Phelps, big win and the kids played hard for him the entire game. Really looking forward to the Hart County game this week.

Taylor returns some really nice players. They lost some really good players as well, but I don't think they will have much drop off. I don't know a ton about Rockcastle so I'll go with Taylor 28-21.

This was a very good scrimmage. Adair had some nice pieces, but had trouble blocking the dragons all night. Adair scored on two long pass plays, one on a broken coverage and another on a great Go Route on 3rd and forever by Singleton, super nice looking player. Adair didn't have much success with running the ball, but has some decent athletes for sure. I look for Adair to surprise some teams this year, Should be a pretty solid team. Green moved the ball all night, just had some ball security issues. The dragons scored 3 times and got to the one yard line at the end of the scrimmage. This is going to be the best Dragon team in the last 7-8 years. This team is still very young, but all started last year and played huge minutes with the Covid issues and injuries to last years team. Houchens is going to have a monster year on both sides of the ball for the Dragons, he looked like the best player on the field. Number 50 for Green also is going to be a massive problem for any team they play. I really was impressed with Seymour and McKinney as well, two sophomores who played and looked like upper classmen. I was really impressed with the dragons. Should be a good year for the dragons.

I really expect Adair to be good this year and look forward to the scrimmage next week with Green County. Green County scrimmaged Caverna and Lynn Camp tonight and dominated the scrimmage, so should be a great night of football.
