I don't disagree but it seems in line with what they did with the Schrands. I think all 3 of those candidates have a negative side and not really a whole lot of positives.

My guess on who they'll interview: Leighton Schrand - former Holy Cross player who walked on at X. Currently on staff at HC. Tyler Bezold - former Holy Cross player, played at Kentucky Wesleyan and was an assistant there too I believe. Does player development work at Griffin. Rob Detzel - currently the freshmen coach at Holy Cross, son is a 9th grader on the team.

I have no inside info just seeing the last two coaches at HC are available. It will be interesting to see who applies and who gets hired.

This could be an interesting opening in the 9th. Some very intriguing possibilities: McClendon - does he get a chance at his alma mater? Goetz - is he really retired? Grammer - is he trying to come back to Kentucky? Then again, they could just promote the other Sorrell.

It isn't about minimizing his role. It is just stating the facts of his roles. And while college experience is great, I think that he needs to see what it takes to run a program before taking it over. I have seen several great college players get head coaching jobs without HS experience and most of them have lasted a very short time. There's more to it than the basketball side and like @ChickenWyngz said, the feeling is he is beneath being an assistant. And if that's how he feels then he may have to wait a long time before getting an opportunity.

I honestly think Ricardo needs to be an assistant high school coach for at least a year before being considered for a head coaching job at the high school level. He was a Grad Assistant at X and was primarily a practice player. No role in actual coaching. He then spent one year at UT-Martin as an DOBO so no on the floor coaching was allowed. It also hurts that he doesn't teach. I think that he could be a good option for schools but has to get in and do work at the high school level to prove it.

All you have to do to see why Holmes has fallen off is look at other teams rosters. These four would be a pretty nice squad for the Bulldogs. Eian Elmer (2023) Taft HS - won a state Championship last year Deshawn Jackson (2024) Taft HS Jabari Covington (2024) Newport HS Javier Ward (2023) Holy Cross HS

I don’t think any of those are popcorn worthy except Booher who would be leaving an administration job to get back into coaching.

Okay so I think that this job comes down to the following (no idea if they all applied but it’s my hunch): 1. Nick Dorning - Ryle JV Coach 2. Brad Carr - I think he will take it if they make him AD too 3. Ken Chevalier - long time Dixie HC and has been at Cooper last few years (in district) 4. Brandon Grammer - former Holy Cross HC, alum 5. John Blackwell - former Lawrenceburg HC who was interviewed when Belcher got the job. The order is not important in terms of favorites to get it.

I'm not sure one way or another. Just giving info on what I saw. I think that they may have to go away from the way they hired in the past. Belcher and McFarland are very similar in how they coach. And the results at Ryle are very similar. Both averaged around 11 wins a season(DM-10.33/KB-11.00) and struggled to win against Cooper and Conner.

I saw Kurt Schneider posted on FB he wanted it. Currently, he’s an assistant under former Holy Cross head coach Brandon Grammer at Hughes in Cincinnati.

If it's about "calling them out", I'm not sure what you could call them out for. They're not breaking rules and if all the other schools could do it, and I don't mean rule wise I mean had the draw like CCH has, then they would do it. Beechwood has out of district kids, Holy Cross took Scott's best player who is going to be one of the best to ever come out of NKY, Scott took kids from Holmes a few years ago, Newport has had a plethora of non-Newport kids over the years, and I am pretty sure that Cooper's rosters have been speckled with some questionable "how'd he get there" players.

The difference is last season St. Henry beat them during the regular season and Highlands had a great team who played them decently during the regular season. This season the 9th Region teams that had the guts to play Cov Cath not only didn't win but their closest game was 20 points to Conner. Can anything happen in the tournament? Absolutely, but it would be an upset on par with UMBC over Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.

As a lifelong 9th Region fan, it is amazing the drop off the once dominant Bulldog program has endured. In 4 years under Mike Listerman, they were 60-53 with only one appearance in the 9th Region Tournament. They are 32-67 in four years under alum Brad Carr with 0 winning season and 0 Region Tournament appearances. To keep it in perspective, they have lost two impact transfers the last two seasons. Javier Ward (to Holy Cross) and Eian Elmore (to Taft) would have made a big difference in this game. But the question should be, why would they leave in the first place? And should Elmore even be eligible at Taft?

The 9th Region this year is way more top loaded, and by top loaded I mean a very very clear favorite in Cov Cath. Last season, you could have had 4-5 teams win the Region. Realistically, the 9th Region tournament was pretty open to all but 2 teams. With that said, this year is setting up next year for a terrific season. Some observations: Lloyd is building with a strong young nucleus they'll win 2-3 district titles over the next 4 years Cooper is back to being that threat in the 33rd Conner and Holy Cross return a lot of 2023s Covington Catholic will lose Rylee and Wilson but that is it and will be the favorites again.

Would you say last year they were more of a threat with more balanced scoring?
