Birds with a big 9th district win.

@throwback32beat me to the punch but I will give you the "Bias Birds" game synopsis.  

You knew going into this game that this was going to be a track meet with a potential of some really high scoring if the shots were going to fall.

Unfortunately, in the 1st quarter they hadn't taken the seal off the rim making it very hard to make really easy bunny shots or layups.  Highlands missed their first 3 or 4 easy buckets before Will Herald got them on the board with a 3.  Jacob Meyer started maybe 1 for 5 out of the gate.  At the end of a very low scoring unusual quarter HC had a 12 or 13 - 10 lead.

Holy Cross came out the 2nd quarter making some nice shots especially with Meyer sprinting all around the court giving Leyton Reed a very nice cardio workout.  HC set some nice screens to free him up for some jumpers.  HC led most of the way in the 2nd quarter until the last 2 min when Highlands finally got some nice defensive stops and hit shot after shot after shot, ending the quarter on a 9-0 run to finally take the lead into half 38-31.

The second half was a fun exhausting running up and down the court with some nice shooting for the Birds.  Barth has been quietly getting back his 3 point form and had some nice drives to the lane for his signature pull up 7 footers.  

Herald was on fire from 3's hitting 6 of 10 for the evening.

At the end of 3rd quarter it was Highlands pulling away 66-55.

4th quarter was the same as the 3rd just maybe slowed down from a 5th gear to a 3rd gear.  Highlands played a little possession ball to eat some clock once and a while.  Meyer did everything he could to try to claw back into the game but at the end I think Herald grabbed the icing out of the fridge and put it on the C-A-K-E to end the game with I think 3 out of 4 of the last possession nailing 3s with Barth putting a nice running layup from a steal Herald made for the odd possession Herald didn't hit a 3.

KHSAA scoreboard has the stats for Highlands:

Barth and Herald both had 28

Oliver Harris had 13

Cole Kocher had 11

HC hasn't uploaded their stats but listening to @859RadioI believe Meyer ended with 36 which is slightly less than his average.  He is the REAL DEAL!  What an athlete!  It's going to be fun watching him play for another year before he heads down to WKU if that commitment stays.

Side note:  Another spirited Highlands OZONE last night most of the time when Meyer went to the line for Free Throws the chant from the OZONE was "OVERRATED".  He scored 36 points!  I think he is rated right where he should be which is one of the best in NKY.

I thought Herald played a great game.  If Highlands is hitting their 3's they are hard to beat.

Exactly what I came here to say, so I'll just quote yours!  If they make 50%+ of their threes they are going to be in about every game.

It was a good game. Harold just killed us. I feel like we didn’t do a good job getting at least a hand in his face. He had a lot of wide-open shots. Not smart to leave a 40% shooter wide-open in his favorite spot.  I feel like the Indians still need to do a better job utilizing Gibson on offense.  Dylan Arlinghaus had one heck of a game. He was a rebounding machine and had a couple of threes. He is always an aggressive player but I think this was the best game I’ve seen him play all year.  What did Barth get the warning for? I saw him riding the refs some so was it just that or did something happen that I missed.

I agree on all your accounts of the HC players, Dylan was a machine.  I can tell his hitting 3s was probably not is normal skill set b/c Highlands was allowing those shots to happen way to easy.  Also Gibson has to be stronger and more effective on offense, surprised being such a big height advantage over Kocher and Harris that they didn't attack that option more to maybe get Harris/Kocher in foul trouble.

As far as Barth and a warning, I don't think a warning happened.  Barth seems to like to converse to the refs especially Sandman seems to allow a lot of conversation with the players in the couple games he has done with Highlands that I have seen.

Barth was given a warning by the officials.  Believe it dealt with him tossing the ball at the player guarding him who was called for a foul.

I didn’t really see Dylan play a sophomore or junior year due to not having a kid play and Covid but as a freshman he shot the three. He had a key three in the Holy Cross Covington Catholic JV game that Holy Cross went on to win. Not sure what happened though because I haven’t seen him shoot it much this year.  I hope he keeps shooting.  We need more balanced scoring.

What does balanced scoring from their team look like?  Aren't they are 9 and 4 with two close losses.

Balanced scoring means not relying on one player beating a double team every night to win.  Meyer is a great player and clearly has been successful in many games this season, but we will be a better team with more options.  The 4 and 5 position avg 6,2 points per game combined.  If we can get them more involved in the offense I think we win a couple of those games we lost and hopefully do better in the All A and post season.

Would you say last year they were more of a threat with more balanced scoring?  I think a 41.5ppg player makes them a threat every game.
