Good write up. Question (and you may not have seen enough of the Beechwood qb to say for sure), but what do you make of those who say Atwells arm isn't as string. I've seen only 1 Beechwood game, but I find it extremely hard to believe his arm is stronger. I've routinely seen Atwell throw it 60 yards with ease. Thoughts?

You're reaching here, dude. You can't compare scores like that, in most cases. By your logic, the Miami Dolphins would beat the Chiefs by 65, since they beat the Broncos by 50, who beat the Chiefs by 15. Just stop. This should be a great game, and I just pray for no injuries on either side.

In my opinion Owensboro would beat Catholic in a rematch. I could be completely wrong. In my opinion, you are completely wrong.

I don't put a lot of stock in the first RPi standings. There will certainly be movement. I don't pretend to know the way it all works (opponents opponents win %), but remaining on the top 4's schedules are: LCA - 1 3A, 1 1A Mayfield - 1 6A Beechwood - 1 4A (this week, in a game they could very well lose) OC - 2 6As I agree that LCA is the most talented team, but I'm not sure if it matters when using RPi Going on the team I follow (OC) - Apollo and DC are likely to have 1 win between them (whoever wins their matchup), but OHS is currently 1-3, but likely to win out from here. Greenwood and North Hardin (should the Aces win) are likely to provide good records. So, really who knows. Gives us something to discuss until it all pans out.

Easy win for OC. Up 40-6, until they started putting in JV. Catholic is going to need to start developing some of their young guys because they get beat up on every time they're put in a game. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the game against Lexington Christian. 2 great qb's battling next week. OC's Atwell will be looking to get some recognition against Cutter Boley. Should be a great game - I don't think LCA will be seeing OC's JV ?

OC pulled their starters up 49-6. Sounds like very similar to what happened vs Mayfield. TC starters dominated OCs freshmen and sophomores.

It's a home game for Catholic.

OC's "close game" with Todd was a 47-6 running clock until they inserted their Freshmen (my buddy's kid is a freshman, and it was no fun watching them get beat up on by Todd's varsity. Good learning experience, I suppose). What I think this shows is that OC is as good as we think, but they are very thin. If the wrong couple of kids get hurt, they'll be in trouble. I think that can be said for most 2A teams, though.

What is it about a Meade team, that won 2 games last year, that makes you think they're a better team than Apollo, with Edge as head coach, and a qb with tons of hype coming into the season? I'm not saying you're wrong, heck Apollo may not win a game this year, but what's the logic behind that?

What's the call here? Seems like most were picking OC to lose game 1 vs Apollo. I posted that I felt they'd carry over the momentum they gained at the end of last season, and I think they made a pretty good statement last week vs coach Edge. Both teams come off big wins, as DC put it to Meade, and OC did the same to Apollo. So, who takes this one?

I'm thinking Catholic carries over the end of last season. They blasted their 2 scrimmage opponents (Caldwell and Breck Co) by over 100-0. I realize those teams may not be top tier, but Catholic looked really good. Atwell has a huge arm - not sure how mobile he is, as they didn't play the qb live in either scrimmage.

Cross town rivals take the field Friday night. Historically, the match up has gone in Catholic's favor, but Apollo is on a current 3 year win streak in the series. Streak continue, or OC take the series back?

St. X vs DC is another interesting matchup. I just don't see Daviess being able to get enough stops.

LCA vc Owensboro Catholic. I want to see how long OC can hang with them. Interested to see how the future looks with their young squad.

Freshman Vince Carrico: 5'11, 200 lbs for Owensboro Catholic has 164 tackles (12.5 TFL), and 6 forced fumbles (recovered 3). This kid is only a freshman, and is 2nd in the state in total tackles. Not sure if he's done growing - no clue how big his parents are. He'll break records if he stays healthy.

Did not expect this at all. Figured it would be a competitive game with ETown winning by a TD or so. I too agree that OCath will be a tough out for someone down the road. Are they a dark horse in 2A or are they on a 5 game win streak against weak opponents? I really don't know. I know they have outscored those five 213-21, which is impressive no matter what. Thoughts?

I totally agree with this assessment, @Footballnerd McLean is very dirty, especially #50. We OC fans sat in disbelief, as they got away with dirty play after dirty play. And, we always get accused of getting all the calls (eye roll). Anyway, contain #6, and there won't be any issues. As good as O'Cath's offense was this year, the defense couldn't stop a pee wee team. Finally caught up to them.

No chance. Very early running clock in this one. McLean is a tough team, but 2 trick plays in the 1st half, and a fumble by O'Cath, on the 5, going in for a 2 td lead led to the upset. Here's the deal - Somerset would have an early 2nd half running clock against O'Cath. Against MC, it will be ugly early.
