This regular season finale matches two schools that are almost neighbors. 3A Cal is 8-1 ranked 1st and comes in riding a 5 game winning streak including last weeks 45-0 beating of district opponent Western Hills. 6A Eastern is on a bit of a slide, they are 4-5 which includes losses to South Warren, Oldham County, Ballard and last weeks loss to powerhouse Trinity 56-21. Both teams need this win for different reasons. Cal to remain number 1 and potentially grab hold of that all important 3rd round home playoff game and Eastern needs it as a matter of pride. Who ya got?

Manuel has been pointing to this game for the last several years. They have put together a very solid team and this rivalry game has been exciting for a long, long time. Nothing like Manuel Stadium on the last Friday in October. With all that being said, this Male team is good and has a chance to be special. I don’t see them giving the barrel back here. Taking Male 38-14.

Yes-fully expecting them to come out of the west and they are definitely contenders. At this point I would like to say something about 5th year seniors…but that ship has sailed.

CAL 45 Western Hills 0 final score.

Cal finishes their district play with a trip to Western Hills. They then finish the season with a game against 6A Eastern.

There is nothing wrong with the turf and the officials look at it all the time just like they do every other field. Cal practices on it everyday and they play multiple field hockey games a week on it. Is it slicker than some other turf? Maybe. Is it a safety hazard and game changer? No way.

Actually 43-21. Me AND the scoreboard drifted off for a minute!

43-27 final.

43-0 Cal at the half.

It has been sad but beautiful to read the comments by so many about Coach Matney. Just goes to show what an impact one man can have when he uses the platform that God gives him to serve others. God bless the Matney family and the entire Johnson Central community.

42-0 running clock. Cal playing really well.

That is an awesome compliment and I agree with the words about Cantwell. I know the respect goes both ways and he has spoken early and often about the talent Mercer County has and the challenge it will be to beat them. Looking forward to a well played match up between these two tough teams!

9-7 LCA at the half. Well played although sloppy at times first half. Should be a fun last 24 minutes.

So sad to hear this. Genuinely a good guy. Condolences to his family and community.

I Know Cal does and I believe that I have seen pics of both St. X and Trinity using them at some point in spring. I could be wrong on that second point however.

That is a good fit. A special young man going to a special place. One of the most beautiful campuses I have ever visited.

Great guys with a lot of wisdom to pass on to those young men.

Great kid that comes from a great family. Congratulations to all involved!

2nd offer!
