Top ranked CAL looks to keep the heat on chief rival

Series History: DeSales leads 14-12 all-time

Table Setter: The annual round robin between Trinity, St. X, and Male gets most of the ink, but CAL and DeSales waged one of the state's best rivalries during the 2010s. The Louisville private school powers kept a choke hold on their district and often split two meetings a year throughout the decade. They've combined to win four state titles in the last nine years. This season, the rivalry appears further apart than it's been in quite some time. The Centurions are the top ranked team in 3A, while the Colts are in the midst of the program's worst season in ages. There were going to be questions to answer this year about DeSales no matter what, but losing Coach Harold Davis before the season dealt the Colts a blow they haven't recovered from, though new coach Wes Rogers believes his team is improving each week.

DeSales broke through with its first win of the season two weeks ago over Henry County, but couldn't follow it up last Friday against a Fern Creek team that was struggling offensively and had dropped three of four coming in.

The Colts will see an opponent this week that is anything but struggling. CAL has poured on the offense lately, averaging 44 points a game during a three game win streak, including a 42 point destruction of Mercer County. Quarterback Cole Hodges' control of the offense is growing each week and Easton Messer must be accounted for at all times, offensively and defensively. He's a game changer.

Everything we've seen this season adds up to a comfortable CAL victory, but if DeSales is going to get up for one game this year, this is it.
