I honestly would not be surprised at all to see either team win. My initial reaction says South based on home field advantage which should play a big factor for these long distance games, but I know better than to count out the Purples in November. With that said, I’m picking the Purples by a slight margin since they have a tougher SOS and seem more prepped for a deep run.

This is probably the most excited I’ve been to attend a football game since my freshman year of high school when we played in the State Semifinals. Definitely the best game in 5A this week, possibly the best game across the entire state.

This game, like every other game of football, will be won in the trenches. Both teams have explosive athletes and adept QBs, and with those factors in play, the team that dominates the line of scrimmage will be practicing on Thanksgiving. I’ll give the slightest of nods to South for having a home game against the Purples who have to make a 2 hour drive. Dragons 21 Purples 18.

Shelby had wins over 5A North Bullitt and 6A Bullitt East which certainly helped their RPI.

Jamie Reed is about as good a coach as they come at the high school level. It’s definitely a tall task to beat South Warren/Bowling Green, CovCath and Frederick Douglass in back to back to back weeks, but South has the best shot out of the field of pulling it off.

It’s a good thing I’m not a defensive coordinator for a team on Wayne’s schedule because I would have a mental breakdown trying to figure out how to stop him. Absolute beast.

Morning practices were very common when I played basketball in high school, but one of the things we as a football team would talk about during the season was how cool it was to practice at the crack of dawn during our summer team camp at EKU. Breaking a sweat when the 9-5 people are still sleeping makes breakfast that much tastier. I definitely also like the idea of being fresher for Friday.

This. I played at a smaller 4A school (post six class restructure) and this was relatively common amongst our opponents. At larger schools I’d think it’s pointless at best, and harmful to a team’s future at worst.

When I was in high school we would have a few young first year starters get some JV reps to smooth out any issues in a less tense game environment. I’m not too surprised at the general practice of having inexperienced starters play JV.

It’s hard to argue that a team should be ranked ahead of a team that beat them head to head, so I’d say they deserve their ranking. They’ll meet again in November and we will see if that ranking will hold true.

Wow... I feel sorry for any defensive coordinator that plays against Wayne County the rest of this season and next year. That kid is going to be a headache to deal with.

I think I’d take Male as the top team in the stare regardless of class, but I think Boyle could realistically beat any other single team in Kentucky.

Final. No running clock but I’m certain the Colonels will be satisfied knowing they shut out their rival.

Rationally, I’ll take CovCath to the tune of 35-7. But, of course, as has been said many times in this thread, it’s a rivalry game on the road. The Colonels need to not get ahead of themselves or some crazy things may happen. On a side note, I plan on making the trip from Louisville to this game. As someone who very rarely drives through NKY, can any locals give me some advice on when to arrive? Parking?

I’ve seen it a couple of times, it isn’t very common since most varsity head coaches will at least want to put up a fight. It has to be mutually agreed-upon, and the winning team might want that extra time to get some reps for the younger guys. But I have seen it used in the past, almost exclusively during non-district regular season games.
