Who wins this regional championship matchup? Trinity sits at 10-2 on the season. They are averaging just over 38 points per game while, giving up close to 11 points per game. Oldham County sits at 8-4 on the season. Oldham County is averaging just over 30 points per game while giving up close to 25 points per game.

Trinity will just be too much especially in the 2nd half. I’m not sure Oldham County has seen a defense with as much speed as Trinity’s.

I don't know much about OC, other than what I read on here.

But I think the Rocks come out a little hotter this week than they did against Ballard. Their defense will be hungry, and quickly overwhelm OC. I believe Tucker and West will be able to run at will, and Racculia will be open down field all night.

A real challenge for Oldham County, but you never pull an upset without playing the game.

 

Colonels got a nice boost with a convincing victory last week in Winchester against GRC, a bit of revenge for that heartbreaking 28-26 loss at home in the final regular season district game.

 

Trinity, as usual, is a beast and a beast playing at home. The Rocks will be a heavy favorite Friday and Oldham County will have to play a perfect game.

 

You could pick all the usual things that would need to go Oldham's way...

 

...win the turnover battle (absolute must - if the weather is wet, that could be a wild card Friday)

...avoid mistakes (Colonels can't afford to commit penalties and beat themselves.)

...win the plays that come down to hustle and "50-50" balls.

 

And oh yeah, a little plain and simple luck wouldn't hurt the Colonels - assuming it's good luck.

 

The game features two of 6A's best quarterbacks. Trinity's Nathan McElroy averages 180 yards a game through the air (#6 in 6A) and completes a nifty 58.9% of his passes. Oldham's sophomore QB Sam Young is averaging 146 yards through the air, and is #2 in the state among the top 30 6A quarterbacks, completing an impressive 67% of his passes (122 out of 182).

 

Neither QB has been picked much; Young has 24 TDs and only 4 INT; McElroy has one more TD (25) vs. 9 INT.

 

Oldham will have to do something few have done: control Ryan Miller on the outside. The Trinity senior is seventh in the state in receptions (49) and sixth in receiving yardage at 855 yards. He has six TDs. The Rocks' Kaeln Racculia is also a major receiving threat, with 35 catches for 484 yards and 9 touchdowns. Oldham has their own dynamic duo: Tyler Holvey has 31 catches for 647 yards and 10 scores, and last year's starting QB, Parker Caudill, has 33 catches for 510 yards and 9 TDs.

 

Both teams average over 30 ppg, but the big statistical difference comes on defense, where Trinity boasts the #2 scoring defense in 6A, giving up just 10.4 ppg. Playing in front of the home crowd, and perhaps in poor conditions, the stronger defense always gets the favorite's nod.

 

Trinity will be a multi-TD favorite, and deservedly so. But it will be interesting to see how the Colonels - a former district opponent of the Rocks' - fare. It will be a great barometer to show how far Mike Fox has brought Oldham in just three short seasons.

I know Fox (and his dad) spent a lot of time around coach Beatty. Is the offense similar to what Trinity runs?

Homecoming game for Mike Fox. Will be interesting to see how he matches up against his former coach, but it will still take a miracle or two for Oldham County to advance.

Fox has done a remarkable job at Oldham in a short, short time, going 6-5 year one, 10-2 last year, and 8-4 so far this season. Each year, he has taken the Colonels further in the playoffs. Win or lose, this has been another step back towards the top 10 after an extended absence.

Sam Young is a good kid. His dad & I went to Trinity together...I hate that we have to play them....I except this one to be more difficult than you would think. OC has some moxie.

What is Fox's connection with Trinity? How long was he at Trinity before he took over at OC?

The only common opponent between the two, is Eastern. Trinity won 44-0, OC 27-12.

Other than S. Oldham, their losses are baffling. A blowout loss to Manual, a close loss to GRC, and a 2 score loss to Fern Creek. This might be good for a quarter, but I think the Rocks are better than those 4 teams.

He was LB Coach at Trinity before taking OC job. Before Trinity he was Offense Coordinator at Bullitt East where he also played in HS. Was a WR for Hanover College.
