With all due respect to Martha Layne Collins, Larry A. Ryle, etc., Frederick Douglass is in a completely different historical universe and, as such, I can see why the whole name is commonly used. You don't see people down south calling Booker T. Washington High School "Washington" or or up north John F. Kennedy High School "Kennedy." Now, Daniel Boone is in the same historical conversation as far as achievements in American History, but I think the difference is that the last name is so unique when everyone hears "Boone" they automatically think Daniel Boone. I don't know... just my two cents... fun conversation though.

Yes. And I’m a CCH fan. Chatard is a 13 time Indiana State Champ and DeSales has routinely averaged double digit wins under Coach Wagner with deep playoff runs. Both will be much improved over mediocre/bad years last season. Not saying it would necessarily matter against last years colonels but at least those two out of state teams were down. Kings will be just okay this year.

The lone "issue" (if that is even fair to say) with CovCath's 2017 campaign was that it caught all three out of state opponents in down years. All three had historically bad years for programs with a lot of tradition. Now both DeSales and Chatard look to be much improved. I think Kings will be as well but to a lesser extent. Fun fact: Chatard beat former CovCath head coach John Rodenberg's Lawrence Central Squad 34-20. So, in order (and its early). Chatard, DeSales, then Kings. My prediction machine... CovCath beats Kings, but drops one to either Chatard or DeSales. And, I 'm going to go with DeSales because of the two and a half hour bus ride up.

Beechwood, Highlands and Campbell County will all have a shot at no running clock. A few observations: 1. At some point, the Sophomore QB will play like a Soph. Against who, that's the question. 2. Beechwood and Campbell County are really well coached on the defensive side of the ball. 3. Campbell County will rally around first year head coach Mike Woolf when he goes up against his alma mater. Cov Cath wins all three, but I could see them being a lot closer than some people think.

I will be the first to admit that I don't get any of this from a "what's best for the kid scenario". I don't get the 4 schools in 4 years. I don't get the fact that he has to re-classify because his age is much older than the grade he is currently in... I don't get any of it. But, this is silly. It's a terrible hill for the KHSAA to die on. In other words, this case is not representative of any similar situation. Like it or not, the kid moved in each instance. He didn't move say, from an independent city school to the county school in the same location. He has moved several counties over each time. To any court looking at this, it screams that this kid is not being treated the same as someone similarly situated. With the economic conditions in much of the Commonwealth, I guarantee that you have had kids physically move 3 times in 3 years and no one has ever said boo about their eligibility. But here, you have someone notable and you try to enforce the "athletic reasons" clause that is already so subjective as to make it laughable. No, this isn't about records, and moving schools like this when you don't have to is crazy, but if the kid is academically eligible he should be allowed to play.

I'm a little confused at the animosity towards Jesse James above. Nowhere does he mention Kentucky Premier. He simply mentions platform. The platform is Nike GEYBL. #3 as she is referred to happens to not just play in the NIKE GEYBL, but this past season she technically "played up" a year. #3 could play at any NIKE GEYBL club, Gym Rats, Flight, All-Ohio, etc. and the same scholarship offers would be available. Why? because every summer league game she plays in, she is playing against other D1 signees and offerees. Probably 99% of the girls in a 17u GEYBL game have signed or offered D1. That is just fact and I believe what Jesse James' point was. His other point was that Bolus doesn't see the kids in this setting. Also, true. Until Bolus is court side at Nike Nationals watching #3 play against the best rated point guard from say the West Coast, I believe Jesse James' point about the list is valid. Look, don't take it from me. Just ask any Power 5 college coach in the country who the best 2020 in Kentucky is. Better yet, ask USA Basketball who had her at their summer trials. And no, she won't be the "highest" recruited player ever to come out of Kentucky. Sara Hammond and Erin Boley literally had every major girls basketball offer there is. You can't go any "higher" than that, but she could match that level and good luck to her doing so.

No. But what if we treated the kickoff like a punt. Meaning line all ten guys on the same line as the football is placed on the tee. Then each "kick-off return" member is required to line up over a kickoff team member similar to "cover 0" or man-to-man. This eliminates the "running start" the kick-off team gets and makes the play similar to most punt returns. If a kid immediately breaks free because he is just better and faster than the kick-off return team member then the returner can always signal for a "fair catch" just like he can with a punt return. My concern is the full speed car wreck style collisions on the kickoff play. If we can eliminate that I'm good with keeping it.

As football coaches, parents, fans and just lovers of the game, we have to get out of this mindset that any change makes the game "soft" or that "we shouldn't even call it football anymore." Fact: when the kickoff was invented you did not have dudes that were 6'0 250 pounds looking like they were chiseled out of granite running 4.5 40's and trying to hit a moving object with a 50 yard head start. That is the very definition of a "train wreck." Granted you don't have those kind of kids on a frosh or jv team, but everyone on here knows you put your fastest and strongest kids on kickoff. You ain't puttin second or third teamers on kickoff unless you want one run back on you. Heck, you put the second teamers on "kick-off return" which makes the matter worse. So what to do? You either eliminate the play OR make the play safer. The NFL has opted for safer by creating more touchbacks. That's not plausible at the frosh/jv level so they have opted for the equivalent... start at the 35.

While I believe the NKYFL start date is a little early (I would prefer August 1), the number of practices and acclimation days that every NKYFL team is required to have is in strict accordance with USA Football guidelines. Practice days, what is worn, i.e. helmets, shoulder pads or "full pads" and amount of air, thud and "live" contact time is all set out by USA Football. The game and practice requirements have come light years even from ten years ago. But, you will never hear that reported by the "worldwide leader" or any other channel with an agenda for that matter.

I believe that one of the engineers of the Vicis has a St. X (Cincinnati) tie as I heard their entire team will be fitted with this model for the coming season. Last season St. X prototyped the neck collar used by Luke Kuechly (St. X grad) of the Carolina Panthers. The study was underwritten by Cincinnati Children's Hospital. As for cost, we see similar issues in the pharmaceutical industry. A lot of money goes into R&D and the equity investors demand some kind of return for the investment. While $1,500 a pop is too much, hopefully as more schools adopt the helmet the price will fall. I have said for years the hard plastic shell is the biggest "issue." This is a design and engineering problem. There is an answer out there somewhere to make the helmet safer and more concussion resistant (no helmet will ever be concussion proof) and I pray we find the answer sooner rather than later.

Its hard not to root for a school like Boone County. Great tradition who has fallen on desperately hard times the last 15-20 years. The problem comes down to demographics and I'm not sure what you do to change that. All the guys who played at Boone, Lloyd and Dixie in the 70's and 80's moved to neighborhoods that now feed Ryle, Cooper and Conner. I do know, however, that NKY football is better when Boone is competitive so good luck to the Rebels this year !!

Not sure anyone has answered your question and I thought the exact same thing you did. Kid is going to get his scholarship based on his play in EYBL or Gauntlet. Sure, Monteverde is the hot name right now, but this kid is a known commodity already. It's awesome that he can get to do this and that a school like Monteverde considers him good enough to join. But, if we all agree that his offers come from the summer league circuit, then compare school ball to school ball here. Did anyone see that overly hyped ESPN "national championship" tourney that Monteverde won? The atmosphere was awful. And Monteverde (no suprise) does not play in the Florida High School state tourney. Now, compare that to a possible Mr. Kentucky Basketball and Sweet 16 Championship. You will be forever remembered as school ball legend. I know which one I would pick, but I am from a different generation.

You are kidding right? Or are you that out of touch with reality? UConn Women practice daily against boys the level of most of the CCH players. Dangerfield, Williams and Samuelson are three to four years older and play at a speed you obviously don't appreciate or simply refuse to recognize.

Finally !!! Someone with common sense. I think you meant that UCONN practices everyday against a boys squad who are former high school hoopers. Granted these guys aren't D1 caliber players, but they all played in high school and Gino thinks they are good enough to get his team ready. If not, he wouldn't let them anywhere near the Court. To think that Crystal Dangerfield couldn't get hers against Aiden Ruthshatz or Gabby Williams against AJ Mayer or Katie Lou Samuelson against CJ Fredrick is simply not based in reality. I might have agreed that CCH would win if it was 10 or 15 years ago, but not now. Athleticism of the girls game has greatly improved. Use a 28.5 inch ball and the college three stripe and UConn is winning this one.

Fun thread... but unless Highland's bus breaks down on the way to the baseball 9th Region Final it won't matter. The Bluebirds baseball team is LOADED this year.
