How will Covington Catholic do against their out of state opponents?

Featured Replies

Covington Catholic plays Kings (OH), St. Francis DeSales (OH), and Bishop Chatard (IN).

Do you think the Colonels will sweep the three out of state teams and put a running clock on each of them?

Do you think the Colonels will sweep the three out of state teams but not put a running clock on all of them?

Do you think the Colonels will win one or two of those games and lose one or two of those games?

Do you think the Colonels will lose all three games?

How would you rank those three out of state teams?

Kings: 78th in Ohio (MaxPreps)

St. Francis: 70th in Ohio

Bishop Chatard: 8th in Indiana

They'll beat both of the Ohio teams easily, I'd say.

Bishop Chatard will present a more difficult challenge.

I think Cov Cath wins all three, but the De Sales game will be a lot closer than the other two, with no running clock.

I think Cov Catholic wins all 3 and none of them will be a running clock.

The lone "issue" (if that is even fair to say) with CovCath's 2017 campaign was that it caught all three out of state opponents in down years. All three had historically bad years for programs with a lot of tradition.

Now both DeSales and Chatard look to be much improved. I think Kings will be as well but to a lesser extent. Fun fact: Chatard beat former CovCath head coach John Rodenberg's Lawrence Central Squad 34-20.

So, in order (and its early). Chatard, DeSales, then Kings.

My prediction machine... CovCath beats Kings, but drops one to either Chatard or DeSales. And, I 'm going to go with DeSales because of the two and a half hour bus ride up.

SFD's 70th in Ohio and King's 78th in Ohio would both be good for 9th in Kentucky, between CAL and Bowling Green.

Chatard's 8th in Indiana would be tied with 8th CAL in the rankings.

All very similar rankings. All three are solid teams with good athletes and good coaching. I don't see CovCath putting a running clock on any of these teams and it wouldn't surprise me if CovCath takes a couple of losses.

SFD leads the all time series with the Colonels 6 - 1 and play a physical brand of football. The Stallions have 3 Ohio state championships and 5 Ohio state runner ups on to their credit.

Chartard opened a new stadium this year and are playing their first season of on campus home games. The Trojans have 13 Indiana state championships to their credit and have the October 5th tilt with CovCath as their homecoming game.

The Kings game was a very competitive game last year at Kings and they return a large chunk of their team. This should be a good game as well.

Great info, thanks @colonel-fan

SFD finished 6 - 4 in 2017.

Chatard finished 7 - 6 in 2017.

Kings finished 5 - 5 in 2017.

Those are historically bad years?

Kings got crushed by graduation last year.

They should likely win all three. There’s a possibility of a running clock against Kings, don’t think so against DeSales and Bishop Chatard. Chatard will be a tough one on the road.

Yes. And I’m a CCH fan. Chatard is a 13 time Indiana State Champ and DeSales has routinely averaged double digit wins under Coach Wagner with deep playoff runs. Both will be much improved over mediocre/bad years last season. Not saying it would necessarily matter against last years colonels but at least those two out of state teams were down. Kings will be just okay this year.

Of the 3 games under discussion, the one the Colonels drop will be against Chatard.

I see Chatard winning this game by 6 points. The Indianapolis schools are very tough at home.

DeSales and Chatard are solid, but I really wish CCH could square off against a GCL South team or Colerain.

More often than not that's a product of GCL south teams not wanting to play Cov Cath rather than vice versa. Believe me.
