  1. That was a little past my pay grade. ?
  2. Agree. He went back home to Powell Co. for more shot opportunities.
  3. With Mercer Co. being open, I think it still shows its a top tier job that just went through a downturn this past season.
  4. I went down a rabbit hole after reading this, and really wanted to dig into the numbers to do a breakdown of the last 4 seasons in this region. As expected, the 45th and 48th districts were the closest to having three team races on average. There have been 8 programs in our region that have carried above .500 records for this duration, and I think that speaks to the overall parity excluding DCA and Pulaski Co. for this time period who have been the top two programs with each winning 2 Regional Championships. Hope some of my fellow number nerds enjoy this for some off-season reading. 45th District (Listed in order of overall wins) DCA (91-33 73% WP), 2 District Championships, 3 Regional Tournament Appearances and 2 Regional Championships Lincoln Co. (70-53 57% WP) 1 District Championship, 2 Regional Tournament Appearances and 1 Regional Runner-up Boyle Co. (58-54 52% WP) 1 District Championship, 3 Regional Tournament Appearances Danville (44-66 40% WP) Garrard Co. (47-76 38% WP) 46th District Mercer Co. (67-63 51.5% WP) 2 District Championships, 3 Regional Tournament Appearances and 1 Regional Runner-up West Jessamine (66-53 55% WP) 2 District Championships, 3 Regional Tournament Appearances and 1 Regional Runner-up East Jessamine (48-75 39% WP) 1 Regional Tournament Appearance ***Excluded Burgin and Trinity Christian, but TCA did have 1 Regional Tournament Appearance in 2024. 47th District Pulaski Co. (86-39 69% WP) 2 District Championships, 3 Regional Tournament Appearances and 2 Regional Championships Somerset (76-43 65% WP) 2 District Championships, 3 Regional Tournament Appearances and 1 Regional Runner-up Rockcastle Co. (59-63 48% WP) 1 Regional Tournament Appearance Casey Co. (30-87 26% WP) 48th District Wayne Co. (74-44 62% WP) 1 District Championship and 3 Regional Tournament Appearances Southwestern (59-63 48% WP) 2 District Championships and 3 Regional Tournament Appearances McCreary Central (56-60 48% WP) 1 District Championship and 1 Regional Tournament Appearance SCS (45-73 38% WP) 1 Regional Tournament Appearance
  5. For sure. Which, imo is even more of a reason to hire a proven winner. It’s a reach to hire someone who played Red Bird, OBI and June Buchanan. It could definitely work out, but he didn’t get the position because of his coaching resume is all I’m saying. Hired on playing resume and connections. Which, could be more important in today’s game and specifically with the hurdle they have to clean in GRC. I just didn’t think Montgomery with their current roster would take a chance on someone just cutting their teeth in actual coaching. It’s a bold hire, so they should be commended if it works out.
  6. I would guess he sold his college and professional ties to the committee. As far as coaching, it is a reach. But with that loaded roster, you would expect a ton of success. It will come down to clearing GRC.
  7. Read my info on it. His connection to the state is marrying former South Laurel star player Ally Collett. I believe she was on the staff at Jackson Co. this season.
  8. The Generals went 23-10 this past season. Albeit, against a light schedule. Intriguing hire if this is the case. It will be interesting to see how the roster shakes out.
  9. I think this one has been filled with announcement coming later today. Parker Stewart, who was the coach at Jackson Co. this year. Previously, he was a player at Indiana and worked in the Atlanta Hawks organization briefly as well.
  10. Yes, I'm sure that is the primary focus. He was on the bench with them all season in basketball, so I would assume he plays.
  11. Hager will be a stud. Wheeler and Hager will be one of the better inside-out duos for next season.
  12. Thanks for always providing great context for the region. I will try answer a few of the good questions you proposed. Mercer Co. job has been fairly quiet. I would think it would be closed to being filled with the month window closing. Does this mean they're staying local, or is Coach Booher trying to swing for the fences? I have more questions than answers on that one. No one saw Coach Adkins coming the last time it opened up. DCA will be at the top again. Heard a lot of good things about their incoming players that sat out this season and played JV in Lexington last week. I wasn't able to see them any, so can't really speak to much on it but Graham will be one of the best players in the region as well. He had a great season leading their team. SCS will be an interesting team. They lose their backcourt that had started for many years (Hensley and Baker), but will return their whole front court. There frontcourt will be extremely athletic with the addition of their new player who played JV all season. I think they very well could be back in the region tournament next season. Pulaski Co. played a ton of young guards this year, and will be back towards the top of the region. Blake Fraley and Tanner Absher will be one of the better backcourts in the region. Somerset has a solid core with Brock Stevens, Josh Lewis and Marcus Jones. They will have to fill in some gaps, and could potentially play a rising 8th grader who is a top middle schooler in his class this year. A lot of young talent specifically in the 8th grade class. I'm a little bit more unfamiliar with the teams up North, but I know West Jessamine has a strong young group. I was really impressed with them watching them in JV games this season. As a whole, I would expect a similar year to this one. A lot of parity with everyone trying to chase down DCA.
  13. Definitely, an era of haves and haves nots. There's not a lot of mid-tier programs in the landscape of building super teams.
  14. I believe this usually gets out there end of April. They used to have a tryout at one of the small colleges in the state, but I don't they have done this post-Covid. I would imagine the committee for the KABC makes the call.
  15. Matt Walls was a great player for the Cardinals. Not sure what type of job he's done as Great Crossing girls coach, but would seem to be an easy transition. The program should look for stability over splash IMO.
  16. He is absolutely a good coach. Never said he wasn’t. Just said it probably didn’t help. He got 15 years there too. Let’s not act like that’s a short rope.
  17. Sizemore at South Laurel would be a homerun. His wife is from Bell Co., and they have taken care of him nicely. As you stated, he returns arguably the best roster in the region for next year. Tough decision.
  18. Coach Brockman has stepped down after nine seasons at the helm. He should be credited with revitalizing a struggling program with a few district and All A Region Championships.
  19. I don't believe Coach Breeze ended up stepping away.
  20. North winning 4 out of 5 couldn’t have helped.
  21. Whoever has the connect to BSN in London will be at the top of this one.
  22. Eli, his son is graduating this season. 25 years at the helm for the Redhounds. Will Coach Davis move across town?
  23. Coach P just resigned. It’s been rumored all season he would move over to the girls side to coach his daughter.
  24. Mercer Co. and Harrodsburg (the city school) consolidated in 2006 to create Mercer Co. Senior High School.
