14th Region Off-Season Discussion (2026-2027)

Featured Replies

Hazard won the 14th Region last year, defeating Powell County in the championship game.

Hazard loses 14th Region POTY Seth Caudill plus several other key contributors.

Powell County loses a lot including Bryson Edwards.

What jobs will be open?

What teams will see new players?

The past two seasons the title has stayed in Perry County, will that be the case this season or will someone will cut down the nets?

Jenkins is open as Coach Winston Lee stepped down to spend time with family.

Lots of rumors swirling around Estill County with Coach Hall mulling retirement.

Powell County and Perry Central, should be 1A and 1B in the preseason rankings however, there will be several teams knipping at their heels. Knott County Central, Letcher County Central, Hazard all should be just a touch behind them. I have heard a rumor that Wolfe County, could possibly be open we will have to wait and see. As for Estill County, I think coach Hall, has been mentioned to retire for several years he hasn't done it yet. My guess is he will be back on the sidelines with Engineers, for next season. I am most interested to see what Hazard, will put together for next year around Trace Kincaid. The 14th region will have tons of parity again and will be fun to follow all year.

I don’t see a pathway for Powell to be rated at the top of the region in 2026-27 season. They lose four starters from this year’s regional runner-up team. The only player back is Morguson. The team will basically be this season’s JV team and Morguson.

I value Morguson, A LOT. Basketball is a guards game he will be the best guard in the 14th next year. The group of Sophomore's enjoyed a ton of success prior to varsity run, I expect them to all make the transition easily.

Would Morguson consider returning to GRC? He would be in the starting 5, I would assume, with Gay,Lykins,Johnson and Thomas.

He can’t play the way he wants at GRC. They have really good players who sacrifice individual accolades for team success. Winning comes first. that's why they are State Champs.  I think it would be a bad fit. I don't think he would be interested in going back to GRC and becoming the 4th or 5th option offensively. He can stay at Powell and take 15-20 shots a game.

Agree.  He went back home to Powell Co. for more shot opportunities.

Danny Bates was named Jenkins head coach.

Brian Hall resigned from Estill County, making the Engineers looking for a new head man.

Other than that, not much going on in the 14th.

Cutter Browning from Leslie County and Emerson Bedtelyon from Jackson City have both enrolled at Perry County Central. I am hearing there is one more player on the move that will shake up the way too early 14th region rankings.

Transfers Between High Schools Policy

BGP is not a clearinghouse or platform for speculation, rumors, or discussion of potential or anticipated student-athlete transfers.

The use of the terms “transfer portal” or “portal” to describe high school student-athletes is prohibited in all high school forums.

Only confirmed transfers may be discussed, and discussion must be strictly limited to factual reporting of the move (i.e., the student-athlete has transferred from School A to School B).

Permitted content is limited to basic factual information such as the athlete’s name, sport/position, and the schools involved.

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Any speculation, inference, or commentary regarding the reasons for a transfer.
  • Any discussion, suggestion, or implication of recruiting, inducement, eligibility issues, or rule violations in connection with a transfer.
  • Generalized commentary about schools, coaches, programs, or communities engaging in recruiting behavior based on transfer activity.
  • Attempts to indirectly question or interpret motives behind a transfer.

No discussion of transfers is permitted unless the transfer has already been officially completed and publicly confirmed. Even in those cases, discussion must remain strictly factual and non-interpretive.

This forum is not the venue for reporting or debating KHSAA violations. If you believe a violation has occurred, report it directly to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA).

No false, unverified, or misleading information may be posted.

Trace Kincaid (Hazard) has enrolled at Perry County Central.

The addition of Trace Kincaid, to Perry County Central, makes them the team to beat in the 14th in the 2026-27 season.

Also, Jaden Amburgey of Letcher County Central has gone back to Knott County Central.

I know we still have a ways to go to basketball season but I would expect there to be a few more shakeups in the 14th region prior to the season starting.
