Open Job: Scott County

Featured Replies

This thread is to discuss candidates and the hiring process for the open job, and not for discussion of the circumstances surrounding Sean Woods's departure from Scott County. There is a separate thread for that discussion in the Controversial Issues Forum.

This one looks to be former SC great Matt Walls.

This will be the Cardinals 4th coach in 4 seasons.  With Great Crossing winning the last 3 Region 11 Championships, Scott County really needs to hit a home run here if they are to be relevant in the 11th again.

Scott County still has the prestige to pick up a top guy. @TribeTime has mentioned Walls. I like the fit, but I am not sure if the school will look his way or possibly try to go with a bigger name.

Matt Walls was a great player for the Cardinals.  Not sure what type of job he's done as Great Crossing girls coach, but would seem to be an easy transition.  The program should look for stability over splash IMO.

I will be surprised if is not Matt Walls.

They looked for stability with Helton a few years back, And now looked for a splash with woods. Both didn’t work out in the end. I know walls is taking a break from coaching to focus on his young & growing family, but he has mentioned desire to coach boys if the opportunity were to arise. Should be an interesting development!

What is Scott County's enrollment now, since Great Crossing? Is it top 5-7 in the 11th region?

Around 1,350, Great Crossing 1,700.  I'm guessing they would be toward the bottom end.

Scott County has a principal opening as well. Expect them to make that hire first and all the legalities of the current situation to die down before they post this job.

Job is posted.

Online chatter is that this will be Keith Adkins (Mercer Co/former Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville U coach).
